Well, you know what this thread is about, so give it a look
Although it should be obvious from the fact that I'm just wearing boxers on my avatar, I am new to Menewsha and looking for some kind of role-play environment that would be interesting to me. I wouldn't say that I'm "picky" about potential partners as much as I am careful that I don't have to wade through people who think a sentence or two is great role-play, or people who have inflated egos because they decide to add in three paragraphs detailing the epic battle between their feet and gravity with each step they take.
I prefer to go by the phrase "What is needed is enough." If you aren't able to come up with a lot to post every now and then, well that doesn't mean you're having a lax moment in your writing ability, but the fact that you simply don't have enough to do. I trust that most people here are intelligent enough to understand this if you're still reading, so I'll cut through the usual pedantic jibber jabber and get right to what it is I'm looking for, including specific scenarios that I've got ready should anyone wish to just pick up one of them instead of helping to make one together. High Fantasy: For those of you who don't understand the title, this is a medieval setting where swords and sorcery, not to mention various creatures of both good and evil roam the lands and brave adventurers go through dungeons slaying dragons for magical weapons and shinies. The world is not in turmoil, the lands are not squeezed by the hand of a cruel tyrant or held on the brink of destruction by a war that threatens the very fabric of existence. In fact, everything is peaceful in the lands for the most part, with only scattered reports of vile creatures coming now and then for those brave, or foolhardy, enough to go and face it. The continent where the setting will begin is called Garel, a hub of mercantilism where members of almost every "Civilized" race come to trade what goods they have and import those of others to help their homes. While I don't want to put any strict parameters on a meeting place the one idea that does spring to mind is a port city named Touresh, known for its bazaars and festivities to welcome merchants from other parts of the world and the supposed corruptness of the steward left over its affairs by the controlling kingdom of Fal. Nearly everything one could hope for, from magical wares to a variety of mundane goods such as spices and tapestries are available here. My character for this setting- Name: Orin "Boom" Thangeld Race: Dwarf Height: 4'5 1/2" Weight: 247lbs Physical Description: Standing at just a hair under four and a half feet tall, Orin is large for his race in both height and width, with broad shoulders and a barrel chest often kept hidden beneath a scale mail hauberk. His hair is a dirty blond, nearly brown, and falls to the small of his back though the top of his head has balded. His braided beard shows various signs of singes and burns thanks to his profession and pastimes. His heavy arms and legs are hallmarks of Dwarfish warriors who have taken to military lifestyles, and his own strength and stamina stand out even among others of his race thanks to his rigorous lifestyle and dangerous choice of hobbies. History: Orin was, and still is, a typical Dwarf in that he enjoys that which race is known for. Fiercely loyal to his homeland and clan which aided in his decision to become a Sentinel, a profession which allows those of moderate military standing to travel through the holdings of other clans gathering information and resources that would help the advancement of the homeland as a whole which he took well to. His chosen weapon during his beginning years as a sentinel was a warhammer, though it quickly changed as he discovered the strange substance known as "black powder" which made things such as explosives possible. He spent a decade in the tutelage of a scientist who was known for using the substance for different experiments trying his best to perfect it and create weapons that would aid his race. The fruits of his labor was a primitive clay grenade and revised form of arquebus scaled to his size and physical strength, both of which assisted in his nickname becoming more common on the tongues of those who saw him than his birth name. For the time being, Orin continues his search while doing his best to send back what money there is to be had to his clan along with the secrets of the powder and weapons he had helped to create. I assume that whatever my partner (Or partners if this does become a group role-play, though I doubt that) choose for a character, the bazaars would be a good place for them to meet, as Orin would need to restock his supplies and the various tales about what are available could easily draw in curious people wanting to find hidden treasures or items that may be needed for their own personal needs. Futuristic (Shadowrun) I choose Shadowrun specifically for this because it fulfills a niche that very few other games or categories truly can. For those of you who don't know there are many resources available, but a simple rundown is something like this: In the 2060's the world is ruled by megacorporations which have been given extraterritoriality by the governments of the world. They are their own countries, and they make the rules. Many police (Lone Star police force) are under their control or on their payroll so those who defect or oppose them are thrown in jail without so much as a second thought, leaving people with only two real options. One, you can work for the corporations as a "wage slave" and make the most honest living possible this day and age, or you can choose to run the shadows, performing illegal activities from courier work to killing for money. The people who do this are, logically enough, Shadowrunners. This age is also known for its cyber technology which allows people to have cybernetic replacements, muscle augmentation or replacement, and many other enhancements that make them nearly superhuman. In addition to this, magic returned to the world in 2012, creating Orks, Trolls, Dwarfs, and Elfs, all of whom have their own abilities naturally. It is a truly interesting setting if you can find information on it or need to know more through PM before playing it's fine with me. Seattle is a popular setting for Shadowrun, and I agree that it is a good place to start. Street gangs move through the surrounding areas of Tacoma, Auburn, Redmond, and even Portland which has been taken over by the Elfs and renamed Tir Tairngire. The world at large is a hopeless place, with only about a quarter of its population in 2009 still alive after two deadly outbreaks of a plague known as VITAS. Seattle is a popular hangout of shadowrunners who find its place floating as a bastion of the UCAS (United Canadian and American States) among the NAN (Native American Nations) a perfect place to perform their illegal activities because of usual border conflict between the two forces. My Character for this setting: Name: John "Mack" Goldsmith Race: Troll Height: 10'2" Weight: 712lbs Physical Description: Mack, as he is often called, is your stereotypical Troll when it comes to appearance. He's big, he's got horns, and he looks like he could punch through a reinforced door without a lot of trouble. With disproportionately long arms normal of his race and two large curled horns on either side of his head, Mack rarely performs any kind of face to face deals because of his intimidating appearance and the fact that he believes everyone except his own kind and Orks look down on Trolls as being simpleminded. With lightly tanned skin, he is often dressed in an ankle-length armored coat and what looks like modified Urban Brawl armor underneath it. A Franchi SPAS-22 shotgun is often hidden away under his coat, along with a couple of blunt instruments for less lethal work. History: Mack was born, not having goblinized like many of the first Trolls and Orks, but he suffered criticism all the same in the CAS (Confederate American States) during some of their more racist periods of "Human Pride" that led to what is known as the Night of Rage where over 200 metahumans were killed. Forced into the shadows because he chose to drop out of school after being suspended multiple times for fighting, Mack became known in the underground fighting circuits where he often knocked people out in a single punch, his blows reminiscent of being hit by a Mack Truck, and thus the name. Older now, pushing 34, he knows enough about the streets to not get a bullet in his head that easily, but still remains careful and cautious when it comes to meeting anyone, even those few he calls friends. Mack is a pure muscle character though he has more brains than most people give him credit for. The best way for him to meet anyone would probably be at a bar or through a johnson giving a job that requires both him and another shadowrunner to complete a job. Since this is based on RP more than dice, I'm not going to bother going through his stats or what 'ware he has or doesn't have. If you'd like a list, feel free to PM me and I'll explain it, along with his karma earned and things of that nature. And I think that's about all there is to it for the time being. I'll probably be putting up more scenarios in later posts if this actually gets any kind of reply, but feel free to ask for sample posts and any other questions you'd like to ask here or in PM, I'll be sure to answer everything in a timely manner if at all possible. |
I PMed you.
