That sounds awesome! I'm jealous ^_^ And if you don't have anyone to head up the rp I will but it really doesn't matter to me. Maybe someone who knows a lot about this stuff lol And ya, I don't know much either.
i'm sorry I haven't been on! I got called in to work this weekend, just got back. We had to do some extra training so I couldn't get on a computer. but I'll be on now!

kokonimo 05-27-2010 02:46 AM

@FidelisRaor: I'll actually be studying in Kyoto, Japan. :) Scared out ma dang mind, but that's okay! xDDD Could you be our ancient China expert? :D

@Mayuka: No, no, I completely understand if you haven't been able to get on! I know how it can be. Not that I don't love Mene and all, but there's a real life that needs tendin' to, eh. xD But thank you SO MUCH for your offer, Mayuka! I can finish out this week, but would you mind taking over after that? Only if you can though, I completely understand if not. ^^

@EVERYONE WHO HAS INTEREST IN THIS ROLEPLAY!!!!
The roleplay board has been set up and can be found at:

*Chaotic Order* Ancient China Roleplay

Omg, how lame is that title and plot! We still need your help in making this roleplay happen, so please come out, show some love, and shake off a little of your summer boredom! Let's pimp it. ;D Hope to see ya'll there!

FidelisRaor 05-27-2010 03:25 AM

Sure no problem and that is awesome! Kyoto is known for its traditional sights!

anissina 05-27-2010 07:15 PM

if it is not to late to join this group i would love to do so. i am a chinese minor at school and my major is anthropology with a heavy focus on asia so this sounds right up my alley!

and kokonimo japan is amazing. i spent a month there studying when i was in high school and it was the most amazing thing ever.

kokonimo 05-29-2010 04:51 AM

@ FidelisRaor: Ah, thank you so much! :D But please, no pressure! The Heian era and Japanese castles have been two favorite areas of study for me. And since, like you mentioned, Kyoto is all where the tradish 'went down', I'm really excited! Still nervous, but excited, so thanks for reassuring me! :) Oh! And about pre-Zhou China, are you very familiar with the concept of spirits and the like? The tao-tie is like a spirit itself, correct? But were there others? Or just the taotie just a general name for all spirits?

@ Anissina: Hello, Anissina! I'd love to hear your insight on China as a whole! :D Please do join, we'd love to have you! Just sashay right on over to our board (the link is in my previous board) to read more about it! It's still a bit rugged, un-refined, in-progress, and all other euphemisms you could possibly find for 'terrible', but with contributions like your own, I'm sure it'll be great soon enough!

** NOTE** My character is kinda lame right now, you guys. :( I tried to make him as unimportant as possible though so he won't be... "missed" while I'm gone. So please, do NOT follow my example. xDDD And please, do post, pm a profile, or something. :( It's getting kinda dusty over there and I got asthma, folks.

FidelisRaor 05-29-2010 05:13 AM

I have to check The Book of Songs again. There were both separate spirits and a general name. If you search Chinese mythological creatures a lot will come up from around that area.

Debris 05-29-2010 04:53 PM

I'm interested in joining. Perhaps you can also include rebellions to it. Where's the rp set up?

Asahi Kumoru 05-29-2010 05:59 PM

Oops, lost track of the thread for a bit XD; If we still need people to help with it, I can lend a hand, as well? I am mostly familiar with The Creation of the Gods, so more of the mythological aspect of the time period.

And don't worry about studying abroad =O Kyoto is a really beautiful place, and there's a ton of great stuff to do and see there! I hope you have fun!

FidelisRaor 05-30-2010 04:57 AM

Asahi it would be great if you could help out with the mythology.

Rebellions would not have been big. Peasants never really revolted because they provided crops and didn't get killed.

Debris 05-30-2010 06:18 AM

Well, the upperclass plotted and rebelled. Maybe a coupe?

anissina 05-30-2010 07:22 AM

my internet crapped out on me for a while there. i will head over to the thread when its a bit more stable and make a profile. ^_^ i know a lot more about the actual history of china then i do about the mythology of it. and my knowledge of the pre zhou china is terrible but i'll pass this off as a learning experience and an excuses to do research without being such a dork. or would it make me more of a dork? hummm... XD either way i shall brush up on the time period as much as possible and make a profile. i have to figure a few things out first. i'm a nerd. if its not right historically speaking my brain has a fit. hahaha!

Keondre Lorano 05-31-2010 04:11 AM

Sorry for being away and unresponsive for so long! I've been caught up in projects and the Phoenix Jubilee event. @[email protected]

We're going to put mythology in? That works . . . is anyone familiar with the Four Celestial Seals? Xuan-Wu, Qing-Long, Zhu-Que, Bai-Hu. Most people would probably be more familiar with their Japanese names: Genbu, Seiryuu, Suzaku, and Byakko. They've appeared a lot in a lot of Japanese culture, but they originate from China. Perhaps there's a way we could incorporate them and their twenty-eight celestial mansions (constellations) into the RP?

Since it seems to be deviating from historical RP to fantasy RP, I supposed it would be rather redundant of me. But to answer the question (on page one, I know OTL), the Battle of Red Cliffs occurred near the end of the Han dynasty. At this time, China was broken into three large kingdoms: Wei/ Cao Wei, Shu/ Shu Han, and Wu/ Dong Wu. Wei's forces, led by Chancellor Cao Cao, set out to wipe out the warlords Sun Quan and Liu Bei and in the process subjugate the other two kingdoms, thus uniting China. The Battle of Red Cliffs is, in gamer terms, the "Final Boss Battle" that ended with Sun Quan and Liu Bei emerging victorious despite overwhelming odds.

anissina 05-31-2010 04:47 AM

i learned about that vaguely in class this semester but we pretty much skipped the three kingdoms section of history. As for the legend I know a little of it from japanese but i didn't know it was a legend from china. But i think we can work in both fantasy and history. the manga fushigiyugi is actually about those four gods and mixes in a good bit of actual history if i remember correctly.

Keondre Lorano 05-31-2010 04:53 AM

Mmmm, no. Fushigi Yuugi is historical only in some of the references to historical Japanese sites such as Takamatsu-zuka. The world within the Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho (Universe of the Four Gods) in Fushigi Yuugi isn't historical; more like a dimension that is heavily influenced by ancient China due to its origins from there. The layout of palaces, cities, and transport may resemble those from ancient China, but it's not China's history.

Asahi Kumoru 05-31-2010 08:13 AM

If you want a good manga for reference, Senkaiden Houshin Engi is basically an embellished manga version of Creation of the Gods (Fengshen Yanyi), which is the story about the fall of the Shang and the start of the Zhou dynasty. The book itself is quiet embellished as well, with quite a bit of mythological influence, but it is important to a lot of subsequent Chinese literature.

The basic story is that the last Shang emperor writes a dirty poem on the wall of the temple to Nv Wa, and she gets angry and decides his dynasty is so over. She sends three demons (a fox spirit, a jade lute spirit, and a nine-headed pheasant spirit) in the forms of three beautiful women to mess things up and tear down the Shang dynasty. They basically corrupt the king, and the rest of the populace, tired of seeing famine and strife while the king is building lakes full of rice wine for his new concubines, rebel and ultimately tear down the Shang. And a bunch of other immortals on both sides get involved.

... There is a lot of death. But a lot of the noble warriors on both sides are deified as the gods of various stars.

anissina 05-31-2010 01:22 PM

i've heard about that one from a friend of mine but i haven't had a change to read/watch it yet. I've heard its very good though.

and i got a few questions right on a history exam back in high school based on something i read in fushigi yugi so thats enough for me to call it historical at least a bit. XD but i digress.

i am having a rather large family emergency and i will be un able to do the rp at least until i hear back about if i'm going to iowa for a funeral or not. hopefully not and i can make a profile sometime soon. ^_^

FidelisRaor 06-01-2010 03:58 AM

Aren't the seals Taoist/Daoist? So that would only be starting to come into effect if I remember correctly.

The class I took was centered entirely on the gu (bronze ritual vessels) and oracle bones. Basically, anything ritual based.

Mayuka 06-01-2010 04:06 PM

ah! sorry, Got called back in. I guess I wasn't done training lol but yah, We should get a link to the rp put up here cause I lost it too :(

FidelisRaor 06-02-2010 01:16 AM

it's at the bottom of page 2 in obnoxiously bright green. How can you guys loose it?

kokonimo 06-02-2010 06:44 PM

XDDD Yes, I put it in obnoxious lime fluorescent green so that no one would miss it... It's not obnoxious enough. :'( Oh well, I'll post it here again. ^^

And... there's so much going on!! Yall lost me a page ago. This all seems fine and dandy, but we need to have a point of reference so that everyone (I mean, like everyone on Menewsha) can understand some basic history. On the page of the rp, I've included links to some sites that help with pre-Zhou history. However, all of the information everyone is posting here is useful. So we need to compile all this info to gain a loose history for the rp, because currently, there isn't much of one.

Would anyone like to do the honors? :)

Mayuka 06-05-2010 05:25 PM

lol! cute ^_^

and I think someone who knows a lot about this history should do that..Just because they would know what general points to put in and it wouldn't get messed up!

kokonimo 06-07-2010 02:08 AM

I totally second that. O_O I also see that you've posted on the board, Mayuka, thanks! And wherever everyone at, they needs to drop by. ;D In other words, still looking for more roleplayers. So please stop by soon!

Mayuka 06-09-2010 05:10 AM

lol ya!

FidelisRaor 06-10-2010 05:08 AM

I'm still working on my profile. xD It takes me a while to flesh out characters sometimes.

Mayuka 06-14-2010 03:56 AM

thats ok! lol
