Ancient China RP Group?
 

Hello, everyone, it's kokonimo here and I'm trying to see if there is any interest in a roleplay set in Ancient China.

Although I don't have a set time period, if any of you are interested in a roleplay like this, maybe we can all get together and think of a plot?

If anyone is interested, please just reply! I'm looking forward to your responses. :3

xDDD My school has also ended, well, official "instruction" has, I still have to take stooopid finals. I'm so glad for the interest though! :) Hey, if we get it going, is it alright if you guys take over later on? I'll be studying abroad and leaving to do so this upcoming June 10. I hope that the group can get as big a thread as some of the others on here. Yall with me? \o/

But seriously, TheDesireMistress and Mayuka, when you guys think of Ancient China (or any other older civilization), what immediately comes to mind? I think that'll be a good start of deciding how to structure this. xDD

Personally, I think of generals, and courtesans, and an empire. Also a lot of bribery, conniving deeds, and wealth. ._. Friggin awesome! xD

the first thing that came to my mind was assassin stuff but i"m a little sick of that. lol

A little research found: They had oracles. Philosophy. Huge Wars. of course the silk trade, and fireworks. lol I dunno if this helps but just ideas of stuff

But oracles sounds really interesting... hm... like, we could use that for different types of trade including being a courtesan. Assassin stuff is a little bit overdone, but maybe we could incorporate that into the court? Like, inside job where someone is a eunuch by day, murderer by night? And they're employed by the emperor or some crap? xD

I don't know, but would having different types of trades as "types to roleplay" be helpful in structuring a roleplay? Any ideas coming to mind? :D I'm really looking forward to the ideas you guys have. Maybe we could put them all together and make a rocking rp! ^^

Here's an idea that just popped into my head...

There's emperor, who's basically like the liaison between all different groups, sects in the court. He/She's paranoid as heck and hires oracles left and right to make sure there's no assassination attempt on his/her head. Ooh, he or she can be a ho! That would be interesting, that's where the courtesans could come in. Hm... Sorry, I type like I think. How about other "super powers"? Like having dragons, lions, and what not masquerading as humans (like that's there spirit).

This is going to be soooo cliche. But I think it'd be fun with a lot of help from everyone here. Thanks for the response everyone!

I love it! I'm so excited haha Structured RP would be good! This is just an idea too and I don't care if we use it but Maybe the emperor has sons and daughters That are all coming of age and have to prove themselves. They've been training their whole lives for it and there will be a series of tests. The children each have to pick an animal that pretty much becomes them. Maybe they have to (As one of the tests) go out into the wild and fight for life and then their -spirit animal- comes to them and then they are friends for life. or something. lol We could either rp that or have it just be something that's going on and the emperor is excited but fearful of it because only royalty has to do this and not many come back a live or something....I dunno. I'm sure different ideas will come to mind too. Maybe the child that wins the most tests will be emperor after their emperor dies or something...


haha oh the Chinese dealt with other-world traders like marco polo and obviously built the great wall of china. maybe the wall is being built or just got finished in the rp...but that would mean the hungs (or whoever) were attacking too.. Maybe someone gets captured by them lol

That's b.a.! o_o I like the idea of feuding kids... Hm... so... let's say emp got around in his hay days and he has like... however many kids we need for this rp... and wouldn't that be interesting if two people could partner off, playing as a part of a whole? (Like when the creature and human become one?) Or would that get chaotic. xD Probably. I like your ideas Mayuka! Let's create a smorgasbord of them all! :D Keep it coming! I'm so excited right now. ^^

I'd have to say I'm interested. Unfortunately the first things to come into my head are Ancient Chinese bronze ritual vessels and the Book of Songs. I took a class on it and it was the dullest thing I've ever learned, but there was still some enjoyable parts.

@FidelisRaor: Ha ha! I know what you're talking about! I took this East Asian Art class and we talked about those vessels. xDDDD Oh my gosh... @[email protected] But! Maybe we can even incorporate them and make them... fun... er? Of course, not that they're not fun already. ;D

As for a specific dynasty, I don't have one. I mean, I personally love the "culture flourishing" periods, but that's like usually within the court and crap. Hardly ever about the underdogs... However, a more unstable one... that'd be interesting. Any specific thoughts on a dynasty? I'd love the T'ang, but I'm biased. :D

And you could easily incorporate the mythology of the gu. The taotie literally means glutton. They once had everything but their head and legs cut off and now they run around trying to grow whole again by eating everything they can. This is why sacrifices are made in them, and there is a vast variety of them. There's actually a whole argument about if they're a person split in half or if it's a whole animal (usually a dragon). Bah, why do I remember so much of this?!

This sounds quite interesting. I haven't done an ancient china role play before. I'll join if you want when its ready:)

@FidelisRaor: You're partial to anything before the Zhou? You mean partially interested or biased for it? xD Unfortunately, I don't know much before the Western Zhou, but that ambiguity could give us some leverage to b.s. crap. As for the tao tie, that's the most in depth description I've got so far. xD I know it's supposed to be like a conglomeration of all these animals and crap. And that certain animals mean certain things, but that's as far as my knowledge goes. :\ Didn't know about the sacrifices...

Haha, I hate the Zhou period, though it's more what you're looking for. Like the Renaissance version of China. Mm, I don't mind it. And yea, they'd usually sacrifice an ox or turtle and WINE, always WINE. : P They did find evidence of human sacrifice at one point, but that's really really really far back.

I may be interested in joining you all o_o I studied a great deal about Chinese history, but I would be willing to deviate, of course, in the name of fun. I saw the Battle of Red Cliffs mentioned earlier - I am a huge fan of the Three Kingdoms period, so my vote would probably be for that, lol. If we want to go pre-Zhou, one of the classic Chinese novels, Creation of the Gods or Feng Shen Yanyi is pretty much about the fall of the Shang dynasty and the founding of the Zhou, and it is essentially a fairy tale-type story, with plenty of magic and demons and such.

That sounds like what we're trying to go toward too! hmm. ok, time to narrow it down

I'm sorry I haven't been on lately. I just now got internet connection at my home and will be studying abroad in a few weeks. :( So, I'm going to set up the rp board now so that we can get it started at least. I need some people to head this roleplay. If you are interested, please contact me ASAP.

As the backbone, I'll put it in pre-Zhou. As time goes on, though, we can always edit rp information (I'm really gonna need help with that). Especially if a plot is developed. :)
