Hmm, we could have three humans, cuz I like having only one reaper character~

Maybe they crashed their car while going back to their house, and is trying to find some people to help and find the castle instead.
Seeing that the castle seems to be vacant, they stay there for the night since it's too dark to really go out. then the reaper locks them in there while they sleep. And begin this while thing of trying to murder the tresspassers~

Maybe the people knew each other before, and when they were younger, they played at the castle since they used to live nearby it, then they drifted apart and moved away. And maybe they got back together again to go back to the castle of their memories to find that an evil reaper lives there and crap? Idk~

Oh I like that idea. Maybe they all came home because a friend passed away and sort of stayed there in his/her memory?
