Masquerade? [ one more time; a co-captain in some form would be lovely ]

I suggested starting a masquerade roleplay a while ago, but it never got very far off the ground (my fault, entirely; college was draining the life out of me). Now, I'm back to try again. :D

My thoughts:
- To keep confusion at a minimum (but also to keep characters from being ignored), there should be a limit on the maximum number of players allowed into the roleplay.
- I also feel that there should be an order in which each person posts (in particular, the order in which each person joins/sends me their character profile to be approved). To keep the roleplay moving should someone leave for a day or two without telling anyone, each person would have a time limit of a certain number of hours (to be decided later) in which they have to post before the next in line is allowed to reply.
- I need a co-pilot to help me organize this. :| This won't necessarily be the first person to respond to this thread, however. As the discussion progresses (assuming there is discussion), I will send a request to the person whom I feel is best for the job (via private message).
Things to consider:
- Fantasy or no Fantasy?
- Setting?
- Reason for having a masquerade in the first place? Or is a reason even necessary? (Partaaaaaaay~)
Post your thoughts below or simply to let me know that you are interested. :D

Hello. I'd definitely be interested in joining in this masquerade of yours.
As for Fantasy or Non-Fantasy...I think fantasy would be quite nice. There really isn't any limit with taht and players would be able to create their own species if they so choose.
Also, you may want to considder teh possibility of maybe using some characters froms already-existing universes (for example an anime or a televission series or a book) but maybe putting their own spin on that character. It could be quite interesting.
Setting is probably one of the most important parts of an RP. I think maybe it should be isolated so that the people in teh RP can only interact with each other instead of random people turning up out of no where with maybe the odd exception of a barman/cleaner or something. Also you'd need to considder teh duration of the masquerade. Would it be just a nightly thing or maybe a week long event to try and bring people together?

Fantasy versus No Fantasy, that can only be determined once the point of the ball has been established. Is a Duke or Lord looking to marry off his youngest daughter for political reasons? Is a werewolf Lord looking for a bride to tie him to the human realm or any realm at all?

I think the purpose of the masquerade must be established before we jump into the fantasy versus no fantasy.

Masquerades aren't common in the modern era, so we'd definitely have to take it back a century or so to find a more fitting setting for the idea as a whole for the characters to reside in. I think that original characters would work best in a masquerade type setting, allowing the creativity of the writer to be expanded and encouraged.

Why is the masquerade behind held, that is really the question that needs to be handled first. There is a list of things that could happen, and narrowing it down to purposes that can include the elements of fantasy would leave it open if the mass majority of the population at this ball were human.

But since humans aren't always fun and as exciting when they are by themselves as a species, I'd suggest a purpose along the lines of this:
It's been nearly a millennium since the Treaty of Existence had been signed, separating the races that have resided on the earth to prevent war and ensure peace across the face of the planet. But the violence is coming back as the races once again find themselves running into each other as the populations of each race grow by leaps and bounds yearly. The Six Lords reigning over the races find that the Treaty of Existence is no longer valid and look for alternatives to prevent further blood shed among their people. It is realized that peace can only be achieved through the marriage between their families.
It's only a suggestion I pulled out of my back pocket of random things, despite the fact I don't have pockets on my pajama pants.

Also, that type of suggestion allows the roleplay to expand beyond the masquerade ball, which of course will be the focus, but to go on after the end of the masquerade when the masks are lost.

Anyway, just my rambling about what can be done, plus a little : war, action, arranged marriage maybe?, and love-hate relationships.

Edit: Also, you can change the race to regions if it's non-fantasy. I forgot to throw that tid bit of information in it when I was typing it. And the reason could be totally different. It was what I thought up after I woke up <3~!

All very good points, Mirani and Lei Kitten. c: I appreciate your feedback and will likely take your suggestion (Treaty of Existence, is it?) for the reason behind the masquerade, Lei Kitten, and will make the thing Fantasy, Mirani. I think I will have everyone use original characters since not everyone is familiar with various anime shows/books/whatever (myself included). Plus, it allows for more character development if everyone creates their own.

I think I will create a thread for this about a week from now. x3 I'm going out of town soonish, so...yeah.

Yes the Treaty of Existence. About an hour ago it sounded really cool and reminded me of the Treaty of Versailles. [I'm such a history nerd!]

Anyway, question. Will there be people to play the Six Lords marrying of the Six Children? Also... what setting will this be in? A few centuries back to when masquerade balls were commonplace?
