Enchanted High
In a distant village, deep in the heart of the English countryside sits a rather impressive boarding school. Earning a place there was seen as an honor to the members of the community as most of the students seemed to come from anywhere and everywhere and all seemed to be excessively smart. What the villagers don't know is that this school is not for the impressively smart and gifted... it's for magical beings, who are all hidden from discovery by an illusion that makes them appear, to the village folk, to be regular humans. Occasionally someone from the village with a hidden talent is given a place at the school but the villagers, who would most likely be oblivious to the childs gifts (because who'd go around screaming that their little darling could set things on fire at will?) would merely assume that the child was smart enough to earn a place there.
From witches and wizards; ogres, elves; angels, demons; mermaids, faeries, fae, mages and the like the school will take any form of mythical creature. Rumour has it among the students that a Unicorn lives on the grounds but it has never been proven...
So, with a new term starting and new students arriving it's 'first day syndrome' as the new kids get to know the school and get settled, and the older students greet their friends after the holidays and try and get their rooms back the way they like them, what will happen? Will romance blossom? Will fights occur? How will the new students fit in? Will the older students behave? Or show off their skills after their extra year of practise? It's all up to you to decide.
It's a Sunday as everyone arrives, so the students have this first day to get settled in. The girls live in the west wing of the school and the boys in the east, this ensures that there's no 'fooling around' going on and , hopefully, should stop any mischevious Sirens from causing havoc with the male members of the school by night. Each student has a human visage that matches the village's expectations of the school.

Profile Section
Boys:
Name: Cain Sinclair
Nicknames: None that he knows of
Age: Eighteen
Powers/Race: Mage. Specializes in fire magic.
School Year: Seventh
Years at School: Six
Appearance: Wide and cunning dark, almost black eyes are set within this young man's face. With wild hair that rests just above his shoulders, one would think he never combs it. Although, he does try to tame it. Tries. Cain stands to be about 5'10" and has a lean build, since he doesn't like to lift weights much. He has pale skin, though a few scars scattered about on his body when he would experience with his powers when he was younger. One noticeable scar is a diagonal mark on his right shoulder. That one, he doesn't quite remember getting. Cain is generally clad in more informal clothes, though occasionally he would feel like dressing up if the situation calls for it.
Illusion Appearance: Doesn't have one.
Personality: Easy going and quite talkative. He likes to familiarize himself with others, but sometimes he doesn't know quite when to shut his little trap. Cain likes to make jokes and doesn't hold grudges very long. However, he doesn't care much for school. He would rather spend his life outside, enjoying life, than being stuck in a building for a billion hours. So often, he will skip class, only showing up when he feels like learning something new.
Bio: Oh silly, silly Cain. Thought you could escape your parents, could you? At a young age, his mother and father brought him up to be "proper". Teaching him how to hold a fork right, or how to walk straight, or how he shouldn't make faces at the neighbor's daughters. His family was a pompous bunch, which didn't suit Cain's taste. So one day, he decided to run away. Of course, like all little children's attempts to run from home, it failed miserably. For the moment he stepped out of the house, he was tempted by the warmth to come back in. However, when his parents found out about his strange fire tricks one day, when he lit the living room on fire with his bare hands, they decided they didn't need him anymore. Cain was "Banished" from the house hold at the young age of eleven, it was good that he found Enchanted High, or else the wolves might've had him for dinner. Ever since then, he has been living a carefree life at the school, being chased by teachers, chatting with classmates, and lighting various objects on fire so he can go: "Ooh! Pretty flames!" and stare at it until he gets in trouble.
Girls:
Name: Rayan
Nicknames: Ray, Ray-ray, Raya
Age: Seventeen
Powers/Race: Ice Demon - ice manipulation/creation, empathy (feels the emotions of others), can create human appearance of own accord
School Year: Seven
Years at School: None
Appearance: Rayan has a rather shocking appearance. She is rather tall and alarmingly thin. She has metallic blue skin with white fur around her neck, wrists and ankles, she also has a long, thin tail tipped with fur. She has two fingers and one thumb on each hand; two toes, a rather large arch in her foot, and a rather tall heel. Her hair is pixie-short and snow white and she has soft silver eyes that glow when she's using her powers. She tends to wear small tops and shorts, either cotton of fur (depending on the weather) and for a 'coat' she wears a long sky blue cloak which is trimmed with white fur. She is never seen without her ice-shard necklace around her neck.
Illusion Appearance: A rather scrawny, tall girl with dirty hair which is white/blond, with deep murky blue eyes and rather mottled skin. She wears scruffy jeans and a rather rumbled white shirt and lopsided glasses with thin wire frames that either don't sit right on her nose, or her nose is somewhat crooked. With scuffed up shoes that may have once looked smart and a large, yet worn school bag slung over each shoulder she looks like a rather less financially fortunate geek.
Personality: Rayan's personality is rather dependant on the atmosphere around her, due to her empathy; if people are happy then she is cheery and bubbly; if people are angry then she has a fiery temper; if people are sad then she is down and gloomy; but when other people are in love she is grouchy and reclusive as 'the sense of love chokes my atmosphere'
Bio: Born to loving parents, the second of two children, Rayan lived a very happy life until she was seven years old when her parents died. Her fathers final wish was for Rayan to be sent to an orphanage in the human world before attending the school, he wanted her to go to the school in order to learn to control her empathic powers as well as to hone her ice creating ability. However, somewhere down the line her fathers wishes were forgotten until Rayan was seventeen and the school contacted her at the orphanage, inquiring if she still wanted her place at the school as their inquiring numbers had peeked and if she didn't want to attend then they would offer out her place. She accepted the place and left the orphanage that had made her life hell just because she was different.
Name: Mildred Evans (goes by Millie)
Nicknames: Millie, Mil. She prefers Millie; only her close friends occasionally call her Mil.
Age: 15
Powers/Race: Magic/Human
School Year: Fifth
Years at School: None
Appearance: Millie is about 5'5" and weighs somewhere around 125 lbs. Being Caucasian, her skin is peachy colored. Her hair is chestnut colored and is cut right under her jaw, slightly longer than a bobbed hairstyle. Her hair has the tendency to become very frizzy in humid weather, and she employs several beauty products to keep it in line. Her eyes are greenish-brown, and are very friendly. Millie's favorite colors are blues, greens, purples, and grays, and her clothes and accessories reflect this.
Illusion Appearance: Same as above
Personality: Millie is smart and also very artsy but doesn't focus on her schoolwork as much as she ought to. She clearly loves things like theater, and generally being on stage and this takes priority over her schoolwork most of the time, except for a few classes she loves. She also has this sort of aloofness about her, and is always day dreaming about one thing or another. She is excited about being able to take divination and flying because she thinks that seeing the future and being able to soar high above the ground is the neatest thing in the world. Oh, and she also loves period fashions, especially the Victorian, Edwardian, and Roaring Twenties styles. She is also very proud of her Southern heritage.
Bio: Millie actually grew up in the southern United States and began showing magical ability at a very early age. Her parents went to great lengths to conceal this from those around them, but the pressure of keeping such an important part of herself secret soon began to wear on Millie and her parents. One summer as they were taking a trip around Europe, they spent a week or so in England and heard rumors about a school with extremely gifted students.
They were staying in one of the smaller villages when they overheard two women talking about a local child who was just accepted into the school, and how the child seemed to have abilities not normal for a human. The parents grew suspicious and resolved to find out more about this mystery school.
Eventually, they found out that it was a school for magical beings, and decided it would be a perfect place for Millie to go so she could learn to control her powers. And so, at the age of 15, Millie is preparing to go across the ocean to learn how to become a full-fledged witch.

"Dammit..."
The young girl with dirty, white blond hair and rather crooked pair of glasses was lost, again. She pulled her map out of her jeans pockets and smoothed it out. "So, it was the first right, the second left and then the fifth right. Got it, got it..." Shoving the map back into her jeans and repositioning her rucksack on her back the young girl turned around and tried to work out just where she had taken the wrong turning. Running a hand through her long hair the girl managed to find the road that she was supposed to stay on and went back to counting turnings. "One, two, three, four... Woah."
There it was before her at the end of this one last road, and it was incredible. The school itself was an impressively large building that may have been a lords mansion at some point but now, sitting in it's impressively sized grounds, which were rapidly filling with milling students and choking cars, it was going to be her home until the next holidays. "Blimey, this is not what I'd expected" From what she knew of the school she hadn't imagined much, despite it's reputation at being one of the best schools for non-human beings, it was one of the only schools out there for non-human beings. For all she'd known it could have just been some old, run down high school building with another building nearby converted into dorms. But this, this was special.
Rayan, for that was the blond's name, reached the open gates and walked through, along side a crawling blue car that reflected her human illusion, luckily. She had been assured that her illusion would be fool proof, but surely even a fool would get suspicious that this rather geeky-looking blond radiated an aura of freezing cold air, even in the summer. Her own human visage was similar to this, but that was sans glasses and she never tended to wear shoes, unlike this illusion. However, being able to wear her own clothes and have it only seem like she was wearing human clothes was much easier. The only thing she had to be careful of was getting too close to humans, because illusion or not she still had ice cold skin, a few less digits on her hands and feet, fur on her wrists, ankles and neck, and a fur-tipped tail.
Having reached the point in the grounds where the drive turned into an open circle Rayan's illusion melted away, as the entire school was wrapped in an illusion the students were only concealed seperately if they left the ring that hid the main building. Rayan smiled happily as the 'smoke screen' hiding her true form melted away and she was greeted by the familiar sight of her metalic blue skin with it's feather soft white ruffs. Running her two fingers through her short mop of white hair she sat down on a stone bench that bordered the circular driveway, the bench gaining a thin ring of frost around her as she sat. She pulled her white bag off her back and fished through it for her class shedule and her room assignment sheet, she would be in room 362 in the west wing of the school, whereas the boys would habitate in the east wing. Rayan smiled softly, glad that she would have the whole day to get used to the school before having to start her lessons.
Rayan fumbled nervously with the ice-shard that hung around her neck as she gazed out at her fellow students. She smiled to herself, surely this would be good for her, going to school with others of her own kind, as well as mingling with other fantastical creatures. She would fit in here... She would have to. It wasn't like she could go back home if things don't work out well.

"Another year here? And I'm still in the same damn room?!" Cain scratched the back of his head. For the past six years he had been living in the same dorm room. Same blank walls. Same bed in the corner. Same crappy window that doesn't open unless you punch it. Yes, he could feel it in his right big toe, this was going to be a spectacular year. Cain turned his dark eyes down towards the hallway. He had a feeling that there would be a lot of new comers this year, and he was glad he had that feeling since he thought last year was a bit boring. Uneventful. The young man was looking forward to seeing refreshing new faces.
"Mr. Sinclair." A voice from behind him appeared suddenly, causing Cain to jump and cling onto a nearby bed post. "I expect to see you in class more often this year, Mr. Sinclair." The corner of Cain's mouth twitched.
"Yessir." He raised a hand to salute the professor. "You can count on me!"
"Hm, right." The professor's voice seemed skeptical. "Well then, welcome to another year here at Enchanted High." The man showed a brief smile to his student and walked briskly away to check up on the new boys coming to stay in the dorm. Cain smiled to himself as he walked out of the east wing. Rubbing his hands together, he began to observe faces as they walked into the school.
"Wonderful!" He exclaimed as he saw unfamiliar faces. "How do you do? My name is Cain." The fellow would say as he approached the new-looking students, flashing a crooked smile here and there. "Make sure to live your life, and don't go to cla--" A glare from the male teacher he had spoke to before stopped him from finishing his sentence. "Er, anyways..." Cain turned around, but something shiny caught his eye. Cain liked shiny things.
"What's this we have here?" The young man scuttled off towards a girl, with one of the most interesting skin tone he had ever seen in his life. Metallic blue! Cain poked her, to see if she was a living, breathing thing. "How delightful!" He smiled at her, and his eyes slowly turned his gaze to the shard across her neck. "How do you do? My name is Cain." The male student flashed her a grin and outstretched his hand to initiate a handshake. Yes, this is proving to be a most spectacular year for him.

Rayan looked up as she heard one of the cheeriest voices she had ever heard in her life. She saw a boy greeting students, all of whom looked at him like he'd grown a second head, she smiled at the sight, still aimlessly twirling with her ice shard. The boy approached and Rayan despite the rush of positive emotion she felt from he she instantly shrunk into herself. She had never been much of a people person after her years in the orphanage.
The boy poked her and she flinched, an extra cold wave radiating off her as she rubbed the spot the boy had touched in irritation. 'How delightful!' Rayan moved away slightly, pulling her fringe down over her eyes from where it had been tucked away behind her ear. She tried desperately to hold onto her own emotions, though the boys endless cheer threatened to engulf her.
She looked at the boy's outstretched hand and thought for a moment, he did seem cheery and friendly... and he was going to the school so he must be used to strange people by now. "I'm Rayan..." she whispered, extending her hand to grasp his. Three-digit handshakes... they always freaked her out, even though they were her hands.
"It-it-it's nice to meet you" she added, letting their hands drop before she'd even shook it properly. She felt her inner temperature dip, despite the warmth of the day and the boy's hand. Hiding behind the curtain of short white hair Rayan continued to twirl her pendant nervously, smiling coyly at the dark eyed boy, her soft silver eyes nervously meeting his.

Cain stopped for a moment to observe her. Perhaps young Cain had been too...out there, and he stared at the girl and her nervous-like actions. He kept his smile, except tried to retain himself from making any sudden movements, afraid that if he did, the girl would shatter into a million pieces and the teachers would make him pick up every shard. That would be quite bothersome, not to mention time consuming. I mean, picking up pieces of a girl that shattered? That would take a long, long time... Unless the teachers gave me a broom. Oh, but I might miss a piece. That would be even more troublesome, since how can we reconstruct her if she's missing pieces of her ear or eye?
The young man's thoughts distracted him from the handshake. For a moment, he could have seen only three fingers. He looked down at his own hand for a quick second before turning his attention back onto the girl. "Well, Rayan, pleasure to meet you as well!" Cain looked at her silver eyes, and thought of his own dark orbs inside of his head. He had never met anyone as interesting as she. Of course, he had met his fair share of cyclops, men with tentacles and blobs of slime, but he had never met one such as this girl. Cain began to wonder what sort of race she was, and wished he paid more attention in biology class.
"Well, then, it seems like you're new! Welcome to the school. Be sure to have fun." He gave another smile to the girl.

As the cheery atmosphere ebbed Rayan was caught of guard by the lack of emotions that emitted from the boy. Her silver eyes scrutinised him as she wondered just what was going on inside his head, wishing that her empathy was twinned with telepathy. She felt herself blush, a deeper shade of blue spanning out across her cheeks as the boy did a double-take over her fingers.
She smiled nervously as the boy, Cain, smiled at her, seemingly so interested in her. She was unnerved by all of this sudden attention, she was used to just hiding in a corner, unnoticed. 'Pleasure to meet you as well' The boy still seemed to be friendly, not too unnerved by the strange girl that sat in front of him.
Rayan risked a smile at him as he welcomed her to the school. "So have-have you been here a while?" she ventured, from his 'welcomes' from before the answer was pretty much a given, but something within her made her feel compelled to keep talking to the boy. There was something about him, possibly his cheery atmosphere or maybe it was just the way he didn't seem to be scared of her...
Her tail whipped through the air behind her without warning and she murmured a sft profanity. "Sorry, about that I swear it has a mind of it's own sometimes..." she said, her face darkening with embarassment as she looked up at the boy in appology. Her eyes scanned the boys frame, trying to place just what the boy could do, a few small scars caught her attention but she said nothing.

Millie nervously entered the front office, not quite sure who-or what-to expect behind the desk. She'd only been here twenty minutes but had already seen enough strange things walking around that would cause any of the folks back home to put her in an institution with nice padded rooms.
A small graced her lips as she remembered the line "I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore," from her favorite movie. Yes, certainly an apt description of her feelings at the moment.
So therefore, Millie was very happy to see that the people in the office appeared to be normal humans. Her green-brown eyes shone with relief that at least she could get her schedule and dorm number without having to pretend she wasn't weirded out.
She put her suitcase on the floor and smoothed her short brown hair. The receptionist didn't even look up, but simply said "Name?"
"Millie Evans. Erm, I mean, Mildred Evans," she said with a slight grimace. Why oh why did her parents decide Mildred was an appropriate name for their daughter? Family names were definitely not all they were supposedly cracked up to be.
The receptionist handed Millie a large envelope that had all her information inside. Millie grabbed hold of her suitcase again and went to go sit on the bench just outside to office and hope to God there was a map in there, or else she would never find her way around.

"Have I been here a while?" Cain echoed the girl's words with a chuckle. "Well, I think six years is considered a while." He looked around him at the school, a sense of home filled his nostrils. Or was that the new wax they put on the floor? Whatever it was, it made him feel at home. "I remember when I first came here. Boy, was I scared half to death. All I had with me was the clothes on my back and a small napkin with scribbled directions on it. I think it took me about an hour and a half before I found my way to my dorm." He paused while flashbacks of him and some of his male classmates plotted to raid the girl's dormitory.
"Yes, good times." Cain absentmindedly smiled to himself, but once again something caught the corner of his eye. Something furry and long. Woah, hold up. Furry and long? His eyes gazed down and saw a tail that was connected to Rayan. He looked at his own rump, and back to hers. "I want to get me one of those!" Cain chuckled. "Makes my butt seem so...inferior." Once again, he chuckled.
For a moment, he stared at her tail, but realized that his mother told him it was rude to stare at others. "A mind of it's own?" His eyes glistened with curiosity. "Does that mean it moves on its on free will? Or can you control it, like a limb?" Cain stroked his non-existent beard, though he wished he had facial hair for times like these that called for a beard-stroking moment.
"All that I have that's cool is my hands." Cain chuckled, thinking about the numerous times he's smelt the smell of burning things. Kind of like barbecue. Except he found out the smell of burning plastic wasn't so pleasant. Actually, it was poisonous. "I got in a load of trouble that time..." He mumbled to himself, but turned his attention to his new found companion.
"Oh, right! If you get lost, just call my name real loud. Like..." He paused for a moment, drawing in air. "CAAAIIIN! CAAAAIIIN!" The young man shouted, then paused and nodded after deciding the yell was satisfying enough before continuing his sentence. "..and I'll come runnin' and tell you directions. Even some personal shortcuts. Like your own personal GPS system! Except, I'm not expensive..."

"Six years?" Rayan asked, her eyes wide with wonder "Wow" Truthfully, if all had gone according to her fathers wishes she would also have had six years worth of experience of the school, unfortunately for her this had never happened, she had been forced to live another six years in that hellish orphanage. And to think, if everything had been different she might be sat there now, confident and smiling, surrounded by friends, chatting happily with others like herself and Cain.
Rayan flinched slightly as she felt the shift of emotions when Cain saw her tail, but his reaction caught her a little of guard. "You want one?" she asked, raising a pure white eyebrow in interest. She laughed at his mad reactions and found her own eyes darting to his rather tail-less arse and back again, that same dark blue flooding her cheeks again.
'Does that mean it moves on its on free will? Or can you control it, like a limb?' Rayan laughed as Cain stroked his imaginary beard "Well, most of the time it just does what it pleases, kinda like breathing, you don't tell your body to breath but it still does. But when I need to move it specifically, like keeping it close to me when I'm among humans, then it does what I want." she explained, smiling up at Cain "It's very good for climbing trees..." she added, thoughtfully.
Cain chattered on, somewhat to himself and Rayan found herself laughing freely, the sound like the tinkling of bells. Her eyes shone with happiness as she smiled at this funny boy who was mad enough to have found her. "You're funny!" she exclaimed, after Cain had shouted his name to the Heavens "And so easy to talk to..." She smiled, sure that this must be a good thing, her eyes shining and her tail embarassing her somewhat by moving side to side in a rather slow immitation of an excited dog.

"Yeah," Cain nodded firmly. "I think a tail would come in handy at times." The young man nodded more as he listened to her explanation. That makes sense. I wonder what it would feel like to have a tail... He thought to himself, pondering questions that he would probably never know the answer to first hand.
"Funny?" Cain's dark eyes widened a little, though they did not reflect surprise, but rather they seemed pleased. Sort of like when a boy walks into a toy shop and his parents suddenly tell him he can have any toy or gadget he wanted. Yes, he was delighted to hear someone say that to him. For a quick moment during some point in the conversation, he was worried he had become a nuisance to the girl and was expecting awkward 'Uhm, I've got to go do something...' and 'Why do you keep on talking? Do you never shut up?' kinds of phrases. Or at least, that's what he's heard in the past by some people he had unexpectedly gone up to. Though he saw the twinkle in the girl's eyes and saw how she seemed more comfortable around him now, and no longer seemed as nervous as she was when he had first approached her.
"Well, that makes me feel glad." He smiled genuinely. "That'd be sort of bad if I made your first day here miserable by being a lad that just bothers you." Cain allowed himself to chuckle once more before he looked back at the school's walls. "We should probably get going soon, if you want to settle down and get used to the layout of the school. Would you like to wander around a bit? We could familiarize you with the more important parts to the school like the offices and your classrooms?" He tilted his head slightly to the side while he waited for her response.

Millie started and dropped her map when a loud shout echoed down the hall. "Oh jeez..." she muttered to herself as she bent over to pick it up. Stop acting like a frightened mouse! she told herself sternly. Do you want to give everyone the impression that you're scared of your own shadow?
She sighed again, her hazel eyes scanning the map trying to locate whereabout her dorm would be. "Aah, there it is," she said. She grabbed her bags and headed down the hallway. She turned left at the corner into an area that clearly had many more students than her previous location.
Even though she knew it was rude, she couldn't help but to stare a little at some of the strange people walking around. She even saw a boy and a girl talking to each other. In and of itself, this wouldn't seem so unusual, but the girl had shiny blue skin! And fur! And-good Lord, was that a tail?!
"Yes Toto, we're definitely not in Kansas anymore.." she whispered to herself.

Rayan gave a heart-warming smile at Cain's pleased reaction to her calling him funny. "You really are you know. I don't normally laugh like this..." she admitted, leaning forward slightly towards him. She felt the friendly emotions from the boy, noticing a small hiccup of shock from the distance which she shook off mentally.
"I don't think you could make anyone miserable..." she laughed "And if anything, you've made my first day the nest first day anyone could hope to have here." She stood up from her perch, grinning to herself, her eyes shining like baby stars set into her soft blue face, she grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder.
Cain suggested that he show her around the school and Rayan all but shone with delight. Finally, here was someone who didn't mind spending time with her, someone who wanted to be with her. She smiled softly and offered her arm out to Cain. "Let's go" she enthused, hoping that he wouldn't mind the cold touch of her skin on his.
Feeling a pair of eyes on her Rayan tilted her head around, her silver eyes turning a cold dark grey behind her white hair. The girl looked terrified, either that, or fascination had taken a sudden unnerving twist. She heard the girl murmur something to herself, she couldn't quite hear the words but the girl's feelings told all, she was unnerved by the school, and a girl with shining bue skin wasn't helping much. Rayan turned away from the girl, trying to hide the somewhat hurt look in her eyes that had lost the shine that Cain had placed there.
((Sorry for the wait, my mum commandeered the computer. By the way Kieran, Cain really reminds me of one of my friends, I only just realised after spending a whole afternoon with him (my friend that is, not Cain ^^)))

A blush colored her cheeks and Millie ducked her head, embarrassed to be caught staring. She mentally scolded herself for being so rude. On top of that, she had probably hurt the girl's feelings. Although Millie couldn't help feeling overwhelmed all the same.
But as much as all the strange races, skin colors, and whatnot unnerved her, Millie was also very excited about going somewhere where everyone had magical powers of some sort. And she hoped she would get used to all the strange people eventually.
She consulted her map again and realized the dorms should be straight ahead and then down the hall to the left. She started walking again down the hall. As she passed the bright blue girl, she ducked her head so that her short brown hair would cover a little of her face and hoped the girl wouldn't call her out on Millie's staring.

((Really? XD That's awesome. Actually, Cain reflexes some of my aspects, and some of my friends as well. ))
Rayan's words made Cain feel quite thrilled with himself. Even as a child, he would get scolded for talking too much, or being too obnoxious. So it made him happy that he found another person who didn't mind his crazy antics, aside from a few guys he had befriended on his first year here. It was hard for him to believe that Rayan doesn't usually laugh the way she just did in front of him. Then again, he had just met the young girl. Still, the warm fussy feeling from making someone smile and laugh stayed with him. It was as if he was hugging one of those giant teddy bears. Man, is it strange I sort of want one of those? Cain thought to himself, but scratched the back of his head and continued to pay attention to the conversation.
"Awesome. What do you have on your sched--" The young man stopped mid sentence when he noticed Rayan turn slightly and the twinkle he had seen a moment ago had vanished. "Is something wrong? Oh god, did I forget to wear deodorant today? I swear I put some on this morning..." Cain raised his hands in the air to take a whiff at his arm pits. Everything seemed all fresh there, so what could be bothering his new found companion?
Cain shifted his eyes to the direction Rayan had turned her back to, and saw a girl start to scurry past them. Was this girl a mortal enemy of Rayan? Perhaps they had a cat fight in the past? Maybe shed some tears together? The young man reached out to the girl with the short brown hair and tapped her on the shoulders before she could rush past them. It's hard to see her face, what with all the hair hiding it. Is she embarrassed about something?
"Is everything alright?" He asked the girl.

Rayan felt the surge of positive emotions radiating of Cain, so thick they were almost tangible. She smiled to herself as she watched him think, Cain seemed like such a thinker, she could practically hear the cogs whirring up there. He seemed to be thinking quite gentle, non-serious thoughts and that made her smile. Serious thoughts gave her a headache.
'Is something wrong?'
Dammit he noticed... Rayan scolded herself mentally for letting the young girl's stare get to her at all. She didn't want Cain thinking he had said or done something wrong, and she certainly didn't want her bad past experiences being questioned... "It's nothing-I'm fine-I just..." she babbled hopelessly, trying to reassure Cain with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
As Cain checked to see if he smelt Rayan smiled again, a soft smile that restored a little of her eyes natural glow... which completely vanished as Cain noticed the other girl. "Cain, it's nothing. Just forget about it" she implored, grabbing his arm and making to steer him off down the corridor. "Please, just leave it..."
Too late... 'Is everything alright?' Cain asked the brown haired girl and Rayan's heart, and subsiquently the room's temperature, sank like a stone. Not anymore it isn't...
((^^ Yeh. It really struck me as I read your reply before. I was like: 'Woah! It's Alex!'))

Almost there... Millie thought. Almost-Oh drat!
At the tapping of the boy's finger and his subsequent question, Millie's face grew red again. "Yes, everything's fine I promise..." she said, trying not to sound like some sort of terrified preschooler.
Millie was going to just walk away when all of a sudden she suddenly felt much, much colder and she noticed that the blue girl seemed to look upset. No sense making enemies your first day here, she told herself. Clear the air now.
She took a deep breath and faced the girl. "I apologize for staring at you," she started. "It's just...well I've never seen anyone with blue skin or a tail before. In fact, I've never really seen so many strange looking people gathered together in one place before." Millie paused, then rushed on. "Not that you're strange or anything! It's just really different, and well I like different and I hope that you'll forgive me and I'm sorry for hurting your feelings..." she trailed off, realizing she was babbling.

Cain wasn't quite satisfied with Rayan's response, as he thought she seemed uncomfortable still. When he felt her pull at his arm, he knew the reason for her feeling discomfort was because of the brown haired girl.
"Er, uh..." Cain stuttered, not sure of whether they should still leave and go off adventuring or to stay and hear the girl's response. Probably should stay, since it'd seem rather stupid to just leave after I asked the girl somethin'. Dang, maybe I really should have just forgotten about it. But why is Rayan bothered by this girl? Too bad my curiosity got the best of me. Wait, what was that saying again? Curiosity killed the cat? Does that mean I'm the cat? Oh crap, I don't want to get killed... Cain was pulled from his thoughts when her heard someone speak.
The young man shivered. "Is it just me, or did it just get colder in here..." His voice drifted off as he listened to the girl talk. "Oh crap, now that you mention it, I sort of stared at you too, didn't I, Rayan? Whoops, sorry 'bout that." Cain scratched the back of his head awkwardly. It mustn't feel very awesome to be stared at. He began to think of all the cute panda bears and tall giraffes that are being ogled at the zoo. Then again, they got free meals and some of them are there to avoid their extinction. I wouldn't mind being captured and observed by strangers my whole life if I got fed free food and if it meant not being killed.
He listened as the brown haired girl apologize to Rayan. "Well, if all is lollipops and gumdrops, can I ask you what your name is? I'm Cain, by the way." The young man gave her a smile while he hoped that all was well.

Fear. The girl was scared. Rayan sighed and felt all of her ill feelings died and her inner chill ebbed slightly. Rayan understood fear, she had felt it often, this girl was no threat to her, she was just a little startled to see a blue skinned gril. Not that Rayan blamed her on that front.
'Is it just me, or did it just get colder in here...' She felt the girl tense up at the cold atmophere so Rayan lessened the chill that she was radiating with an appologetic smile. "Sorry about that" she murmured. At that was when the other girl appologised and Rayan was so taken aback that someone was actually kind enough to appologise to her that she actually stumbled. Regaining what was left of her composure, her hand shooting up to her ice shard instintively Rayan mentally slapped herself and forced the words out.
"No. I'm sorry. It was completely irrational for me to think that you wouldn't stare. I shouldn't have taken it so to heart. I've just never been good with people, or the way I look..." Rayan had to bite her tongue to shut herself up before she revealed her entire lifes story to the first person outside the orphanage to be stunned by her appearance, Cain excluded.
The word 'strange' wasn't exactly a help for Rayan's confidence but neither was it a surprise. If anything she was used to it. "You haven't hurt my feelings. I'm just a little tense. I'm not used to being around people like myself-well I say 'people like myself' I'm just not used to being around humans who don't stare at me like I've got two heads- I'm gonna shut up now..." she trailed off, not wanting everyone to freak out that there was a demon at the school. As if they weren't freaking out enough at the girl with metallic blue skin, she didn't want to add any fuel to that fire...

"Oh, my name is Millie." She dropped her suitcase on the floor and extended her hand. "Millie Evans." Cain. Like from the Bible, Millie thought, making sure to put the name with a face.
When the blue girl spoke again, Millie turned towards her. "It's okay," she said. "I guess we just misunderstood each other." Millie was about to ask her what her name was and why she was here, when the temperature rose suddenly. "Woah, did you do that?" she asked, her hazel eyes shining. "That's cool!" She smiled and continued. "So, do you manipulate the weather or something?" she asked interested in learning more. And she wondered what sort of powers Cain had as well.

Millie, noted. Rayan thought to herself, stashing that information away in her brain so that she'd recognise the girl in the future. She smiled hesitantly as the brunette turned to face her, her eyes glinting softly as she realised that she had simply over-reacted before.
The girl, Millie, accepted her appology and Rayan gave her a grateful sigh, one hand stretching up to rumple up her soft white hair. The girl's amazement at Rayan's natural cold aura made her feel a little embarassed. "Well, it's not that coo-"
'Do you manipulate the weather or something?' Rayan froze, appropraitely, what should she say without lying or scaring everyone in ear shot. "Well-I-I-I can manipulate and create ice mostly... but I can also kind of feel people's emotions, but that's kinda hard to explain and it's very sketchy, like a murmur at the back of my mind..." She babbled, smiling hesitantly, ruffling up the chick-fluff short hair at the back of her neck, her face a deep blue with embarassment.
Rayan felt bad for not telling the whole truth, but did she really want to brand herself as dangerous? People never heard the 'Ice' part of 'Ice Demon' They just heard the word Demon and freaked out, thinking that she was some kind of mass-murdering beast. Rayan wanted a new start here, fear free, among people who wouldn't freak out just by looking at her, she was not about to ruin that with one simple word...

"Nice to meet you, Millie." Cain gave the girl a warm smile and shook her extended hand. When Millie had asked Rayan about her ability, Cain's curiosity returned. After all, everyone here had something special. He realized something at that moment that struck him as something rather odd. That something was he felt it was normal to have special powers, or to have multiple eyes or four mouths. Six years ago, he might have thought 90% of the school's pupils were only from fairy tales or legends.
When Cain heard of Rayan's abilities, his eyebrows couldn't help but to raise themselves a smidgen. To manipulate and create ice was similar to his power. Well, except he had fire. Though it wasn't too surprising that someone would have a power similar to his. Heck, in his past he had met his fair share of elementalists. What did strike him as somewhat surprising however, was the fact that she can feel emotions. Cain stroked his imaginary beard once again. You see, this is another example of when facial hair would come in handy.
"So in other words, you can know when someone is happy, or feeling blue?" The young fellow thought for a moment. "So if I go like this all of a sudden..." He thought of the happy times he had spent at the school, and smiled as wide as he could. "..You can feel that? Is it a tingle, or a weird warm fuzzy feeling you get when you hug a teddy bear?"
After he had asked that, he couldn't help but ponder what Millie's power was. Maybe she could fly? Or despite her small and timid appeal, she had the strength to lift a thousand cars? She could possibly be able to read minds. Oh crap. That would mean she knows what I'm thinking now. Cain turned to stare at the girl. Can you hear me? He squinted his eyes at her and concentrated. Can you hear me now? Or how about now? When he finished his last thought, he realized the girl probably couldn't read minds, or else she would have responded by now. Oh crap's crap. Does that mean I just made a complete fool of myself?
"I was trying to see if you could read minds." Cain explained himself while awkwardly shifting his feet.

Another smile lit up Millie's face. "You can create ice and stuff? That's really cool," she said, eyes shining. Despite the strange appearances of a large percentage of the school, Millie had always loved reading fairy tales and myths and especially loved reading about all the strange powers that were abundant in those types of stories.
"Yeah, how do you feel emotions?" she continued, after hearing Cain's question. "D'ya just feel it involuntarily, or do you actually have to concentrate?" She tucked a piece of her short brown hair behind her ears. "And what about when someone feels sad or upset? Or angry? What's that feel like?"
After a moment, she noticed Cain was staring at her with a strange expression on his face. She was about to ask him what on Earth he was doing, when suddenly he said, "I was trying to see if you could read minds."
Millie couldn't help but to giggle at that. "Uh no, but that would be pretty cool. I have magical powers." She paused for a moment, and then clarified "Like Harry Potter. You know, with a wand." She then realized that she didn't know why Cain was here. "What about you? What's your power?"

'Cue the questions...' Rayan thought to herself, running a hand through her hair in a way that made it stick out at strange angles. She could feel the curiosity from the pair of them as they worked out how best to ask her. 'Cool' Rayan smiled softly, of course Millie would think it was cool. As Cain started stroking his imaginary beard again Rayan couldn't fight the melodic laugh that burst to her lips once more.
"I can tell what everyone in this entire school is feeling if I concentrate hard enough but it hurts if I feel too much, if emotions are too strong or if I feel too many at once..." Rayan was cut off as the most amazing sensation burst into her mind, it was like melting, it felt incredible. She looked up to meet Cain's eyes and told him truthfully "It feels incredible.
"It's like-like-like floating on air. And it is kinda involuntary, I feel anyone's emotions who are close enough, but if I really concentrate I can block it out. I tend to try and block out anything that overwhelms me" She smiled at him, her eyes twinkling after that dose of, what felt like, raw un-concentrated bliss from him. And then Millie asked about the bad emotions "It's like-well, it's not like floating. It's really hard to describe to people who can't feel it. It's just-" she shuddered involuntarily "It's awful... Like a part of me is dieing inside, that's what I try to block out"
She felt a strange tingle in the back of her mind, she knew concentration when she felt it she just couldn't quite place it... until she look at Cain, his face all screwed up as he concentrated on her like he was trying to blow her head off. She laughed again, he looked so funny doing that, her eyes were shining like stars as she watched him. When he explained that he was trying to see if she could read minds Rayan laughed once more, not able to help herself.
Then Millie asked what Cain's powers were and all laughter died on Rayan's lips, this she wanted to know about...

((Happy New Year everyone. :0 ))
"That's pretty awesome, I've got to admit." Cain said after listening to Rayan's explanation for the bombardment of questions they set off at her. He was glad that his joyful memories didn't hurt her. Cause that would suck if feeling...feelings felt like someone was stabbing you. Oh wait, I guess that's what the bad feelings would be like. Dang, I guess I should try to keep my feelings in check. He thought, not wanting to hurt the girl if he threw a tantrum.
"Oh." Cain said when he heard Millie say she couldn't read minds, but smiled when she revealed her ability. "That's cool. Harry Potter, eh? Does that mean you have some dude stalking you?" Then he started to wonder whether her wand was like a stick, or if it had a star at the end of it. Personally, he would prefer the star wand. Then again, it was Cain afterall. When Millie asked him what his power was, he grew silent.
He couldn't help but have flashbacks of when he first lit his living room on fire by having a blast of fire explode from his hands. He remembered the horror on his parent's faces and how they had to get new velvet drapes. Ah, how he hated those drapes. But no matter what he did with them whether it was cutting them, drawing on them, or finally lighting them on fire, they always found a way back. It was the day after that his parents disowned him and he started living at the school.
Cain shook his head vigorously. "Sorry 'bout that, spaced out for a moment there. As for me, I'm like a fire mage. You know, in those roleplay games?" He thought for a moment to try to think up of an explanation, but sighed when his head couldn't think of anything. "I'm basically like you two, except I specialize in fire." Cain smiled at them.
