Sky shook her head vigorously when Penelope mentioned a storm. 'There's not going to be a storm. My name is Sky! Bright and blue like the sky! Not black and ugly and ... scary.... momma promised wasn't going to be any storms!' The carers watched Sky and her movement. They decided it wasn't too eratic so they didn't bother her for the time being.
It took a moment for her to calm down and the worry and the terror to settle. The thought of storms brought back the memories of when Sky and her mother and huddle under a duvet and shivered in silence as the cottage rattled and shook from the storm. The rain was so loud and and managed to poke holes through the roof Sky's mother so desperately tried to repair. Sky's mother would hold her and whisper sweet lullabys into her ear. Eventually when they fell asleep the morning would be bright and sunny and every part of the cottage would glow. The leaks and the tip-tap of the rain would cease and then the lovely, fresh 'just-rained' smell would linger in the air. Sky would step outside and run across the dew-covered pastures and fields, collecting pink daisys for her mother. Those daisys were the exact colour of Sky's hair. Sky looked back up at the girl. 'Penelope, what a lovely name! My name is Sky!' she repeated. Sky hoped the girl would remember her name. The children in the village school never remembered. |
Chanel shoved the slop around, and every now and then would hold it to her lips, hesitate then drop the spoon back into the bowl, unable to bring herself to eat. The carer that had so carefully watched her for the last five minutes, decided to take the food that she hadn't touched away. "Is there anything you will eat?" the carer asked with a hint of sarcasm.
Chanel rolled her eyes and shot back "I only eat real food, do you know when they will serve that?" The carer froze for a moment then smiled and said he would bring something from the kitchen for her, and continued away. Chanel lay her head down on the table, her eyes darting about the room checking all the positions of the carers, and wondering if she could find Leena and get out of the Institute before anyone caught her. She watched the carers for a moment then dismissed the thought, knowing Leena would be to hard to find. The carer that had taken her food returned with a pancake, and a glass of water. Chanel set to eating the pancake, and sipping the water. When she finished she got up and wandered about the canteen, with two carers close behind. |
Penelope raised her eyebrows a little. "Thank you, I guess?" She said, feeling a little unsure now. "But with the storms come the fresh air and the blue skies, Sky." She said, almost gently. Penny was looking a little confused, and sat down opposite Sky. She turned to face Penelope with a puzzled expression. But she was fixed on Sky.
Penelope smiled again at Sky, deciding that she would treat her like a little child if her mentality was that of one. "I bet that you'll be fine. It will be fine, because if you believe that it will all go away it will seem so much quieter." She smiled again. She was alright with kids, and she would never harm a child. It was only ever adults that betrayed her. And that she killed, egged on by Penny and Pen. Pen was impressed. He personally would've clasped his hands around the pink-haired girl's neck and tightened his grip slowly. He had no idea what was going on, but he couldn't help but feel slightly impressed by Penelope's patience. Penny on the other hand felt worried. She knew that Penelope was patient, but patient enough to deal with someone who was like this? She knew that Penelope was having good days at the moment, so she leant over to her. "This is a bad idea, Penelope, and you know it!" She whispered in the girl's ear. Penelope was slightly annoyed when Penny whispered that piece of advice, but she kept smiling. She would make a friend and possibly an ally if she was with this girl. Maybe then the carers will let her sit outside with a book or two, or let her stand in the rain. She wanted so desperately to have a longer leash, that before her rages she asked to be sedated. But all the emotion was all bottled up and she was not sure how much longer she could hold it in. |
Chanel wanders close to the three sitting together and wonders whether she should join them, but resists the urge, knowing only trouble would come from associating with anyone here. Instead she heads to where Leena had disappeared earlier and heads for the door she had gone through, but was stopped before she could get to the door by a sharp tug on the shoulder by one of the carers.
Chanel turned quickly with a fist, ready to meet whoever dared to stop her, in the face. She quickly stopped herself, but it was to late, the carer had noticed, and led her towards a rack that had all sorts of things on it. He grabbed a straight jacket, an 'I love me' jacket as Chanel called them, and proceeded to shove her arms through and latch it securely on her. He then led her back to one of the tables and let her sit in silence to 'reflect' on her behavior, as he went to handle some issue or another on the other side of the canteen. |
((Go on, guys! Post!))
|
((Sorry, I've been pretty busy lately))
Jason's shoulders relaxed when the girl's attention was diverted to the hyper girl. He stayed silent for the most part, becoming more of a listener than a speaker. So her name's Penelope... he marked that down mentally as the two conversed, though he didn't really care all that much for the pink-haired girl. She was too happy and too crazy. She reminded him of a dog and he hated those. She was probably in here for being bipolar or something else. He wasn't really a psychology major. He glanced over to the grungy windows at the sky, hoping it would rain. He liked the rain and it was almost calming for him, almost. He found the sun too bright and storms to be too loud. Something like a light rain was nice even if he couldn't actually bask in it. He drummed his fingers against the table as he stared off into space, noticing the various people filing into the canteen. No one all that interesting or worth hating... |
Sky smiled at Penelope. Maybe this girl would become her bestest friend in this new school. Sky gave Penelope another beaming smile until her attention diverted to the boy. He was tapping his fingers on the table, looking out the window. "Hello, I'm Sky!" she said to him, wanting to get up and shake his hand. She got off her chair and got onto the table, crawling across it until she was infront of him. She stuck out her hand, intending for him to shake it.
The carers saw Sky, at first alarmed and ready to ponce. They hurried over but when they saw Sky meant no harm, they stood hovering, looking at the boy and the pink-haired girl's outstreched hand. Sky looked at the carers, confused, then she looked back at the boy. She was still smiling at him however it was beginning to strain. |
As Chanel sat in silence, she noticed all the carers seemed to move towards the group that was together and couldn't help but wonder why. Then she saw her, the girl that was much to happy on the table.
"No wonder..." she said quietly to herself, shook her head and turned away from the group. Leena came back soon enough, and laughed at the sight of the 'I love me' jacket being used on Sabrina. "What have you done now? Attack the pope or something?" Leena giggled. Chanel sighed and explained briefly what had happened. "I went to follow you but they stopped me...He..." She nodded to one of the carers. "almost got clobbered. Now THAT would have been fun...Damn I hate this place..." Chanel looked off into the gray sky and sat in silence with her companion for a long while before finally deciding she had 'reflected' long enough. She went to a carer, one that looked new and scared of everyone in the room, and said in a syrupy sweet voice, "Won't you please take this jacket off of me? I really am sorry that I reacted like that, and won't ever EVER do it again!" Chanel smiled sweetly, hoping her best effort would pay off quite soon. The carer looked quite nervously at the jacket, looked at the other carers, who were paying him no attention, then back at the girl who looked as if she wouldn't hurt a fly. "Uhh...Of course, here sit down ill have you out of it in no time." He said with a smile. Chanel returned the smile, and silently named him her new favorite carer. The carer's (if you knew how) were very easy to manipulate to what you wanted, even doing all your dirty work for you sometimes, without them knowing of course. Leena smiled as the carer released Sabrina from the jacket and couldn't help but wonder what Chanel would do now. "Now lets have some fun." Chanel said quietly. |
Penelope was pleased at the girl's reaction. If she played her cards well she could easily manipulate this girl. She looked at the boy with an almost apologetic look. That was before Sky started talking to him, or in other words, violating his personal bubble. People got so touchy round here.
Penelope knew that people around here were very particular about their personal space. More than twice had someone snapped because someone else had been invading their space. She felt worried, but her face remained calm. Penelope froze up when Sky stuck her hand in the guy's face. She had wanted to speak to the boy, and find out what he could take. But she was afraid that Sky had gone the wrong way. She had just jumped into the deep shark filled end, without testing the waters. Big mistake. But how was a child to know, right? She didn't know what she was messing with and that was so very very stupid. ((Writer's block. No worries, Cows Go Moo. : D )) |
((soz, I need Cows Go Moo to reply....
Do you think we could come up with an interesting plot?)) |
Jason stared at the girl and how she had invaded his personal space. He was tempted, so tempted to take her hand and flip her over, but even he knew where that would land him. In a padded cell with a needle of morphine shoved into his bloodstream. Instead he let his mouth verbalize his agitation. "Okay, unless I've asked you to invade my area on the table and for your name I'd suggest that you get back to your chair before I do something you'll regret," he threatened coldly, a glare on his face. He was never the type of person to regret doing anything and it was always the receiver of his anger or malice who regretted their actions, whatever they may be.
But alas, the caretakers caught onto his meaning, quickly moving over to his side and restraining his arms before he could do anything remotely bad. His head was slammed against the table, causing him struggle further and even snarl openly at one of the people restraining him; however, he let out a few breaths before calming down. He was already causing a huge scene, like it or not and he needed to get out of this situation. He was let go, albeit with hesitation, but the caretakers didn't leave his side. |
Sky stared at the boy, shocked. She had never received a reply like that before. Her heart pounded and her throat was tight as she still stared at the boy, her attempts at smiling failing. When the carers restrained the boy, a couple of others pulled her off the table and down onto the chair, holding her arms in place. Sky was sitting opposite the boy across the table. She still couldn't take her eyes off him, gasping with a jump when his head slammed onto the table.
Her mother always said to introduce herself to people with a smile. People liked smiley, happy, sunny people. Sky remembered a farmer who worked at a field not too far from the cottage. Sky would sometimes pick some daffodils for her mother until a metal barrier was constructed around it. She learnt the hard way that it was an electric field. Sometimes the farmer would visit the cottage for the rent money. Sky would open the door for him and greet him the way she always did, but he would just grumble and push past her. She was hurt by this and asked her mother why someone could be so grumpy. Her mother would dismiss her remarks and scold her for judging people. Sky didn't come across any more people like that until highschool. Sometimes people would laugh at her and others would hit her. Some took advantage of her kindness and naivety by abusing her. The coldness exuded from the boy brought back those memories her mind had buried away long ago. She still looked at him, but didn't feel like smiling. Her eyebrows hung low over her darkened eyes. She would have said something to boy but the stern looks of the carers made her retreat from that idea. She breathed slowly, her mouth a tight line. Soon the carers let her arms go and she rest her hands in her lap, trying to keep her fingers from trembling. |
Chanel walked intently over to the group, that had just caused a large scene, and without invitation or need of one sat down next to the pink haired girl. She sat silently, knowing the carer's were to close to strike up any time of fun conversation.
The carer that had just released Chanel watched nervously, as the small group at the table seemed to grow and become more mischievous with every joining guest. Leena however giggled away near the carer, but was unnoticed to all but Chanel. |
Sky noticed that someone sat next to her. She twisted around in her seat and jerked out her hand. Automatically a smile stretched across Sky's face. This had all happened before Sky could register why she had acted like this. Then she saw again the pretty girl sitting next to her and her smile widened. 'Hello! My name is Sky, what's yours?' Her fingers were still trembling even though she tried to keep them still. The carers jolted towards Sky when they saw her whack her hand out but then they realised she was just trying to be friendly. Sky looked at a carer who hovered beside her. Sky turned and smiled at her. In Sky's mind, the carers were friends who helped her. She never saw them as a threat or a bother. They reminded her of her large carebears that filled her single, flowery bed.
Sky looked back at the girl sitting next to her, anticipating her reply. |
Chanel looked back Sky for a few awkward moments, then took her hand and smiled.
"My name's Chanel." she said in a friendly tone as she shook Sky's hand. Behind her she could hear Leena roaring with laughter, obviously amused by Chanel's civility. The carers nearby however let out a long held breath of relief. "How are you Sky?" she asked turning her attention back to the group, ignoring the fact that all eyes were focused on the table she had just situated herself at. |
Penelope raised her eyebrows at the new girl. She was ruining her game. "Hey, Sky, I bet that you don't know what the weather will be like tomorrow, right?" She said softly, trying to pull Sky away from that other girl. But she had her hands full. The boy was still seething with anger. She could tell that he was trying to cool down, so he had to wait. "Sky, I thought we were friends..." She pouted. She was trying to tempt the girl. Penelope had to play her cards right.
((Hey, Brinababy, try to make your posts longer, kay? And I thought your character is called Chanel. That is what your profile says. Try and stick to it, alright? All plot ideas go in the OOC thread. It's on the first page in the rules post. ; ) To be editted later.)) |
'Um, um...' Sky, overwhelmed by the responses, darted her eyes between Penelope and her new friend Sabrina. She couldn't make up her mind. 'Um, um, um...How about we all hang out together! Let's go to your room Penelope! Let's have fun!' Sky's fingers were trembling with exciement and anticipation. She looked around at the dull and desolate canteen. She stood up quickly, slightly jumping up and down on her toes. 'Come on, let's go now!'. She dug her fingers into Sabrina's shoulder - not realising if she was gripping too hard - trying to pull her up. Sky had finally made some friends in this place. She was absolutely buzzing with joy.
Sky always tried to make friends in the village school. She would play with the other girls, do their hair, let them play with her dolls, submissively obey their every command. She never found it hard to make friends until she got to highschool. People weren't interested in her preppiness and pink hair. They would just laugh. Sky looked back at the two girls, beaming at them. She was darting her eyes from one to another repeatedly until her gaze accidentally flickered on the boy.Her smile slightly quivered but she kept it there, plastered on her face. |
Chanel smiled, then muttered in a quiet tone "You can go ahead, I'd rather not go to her room." Chanel turned towards Penelope raised an eyebrow, then turned back to Sky. "On the other hand, it would be a lot more fun than this boring place." She gestured to the rest of the room with a half smile.
The carers started to look uncomfortable as they watched Sky jump up and down, but didn't seem to move in to stop her. Leena on the other hand had joined Chanel and was quite intent on voicing her opinion on the table and its occupants. "She just wants you gone, don't you see? She glares at you every time you turn your attention back to Sky. She's used to being the ring leader." Leena began in her sweet as honey voice, slightly motioning towards Penelope. "Her on the other hand, could be fun to have around." Leena continued, this time motioning towards Sky. Chanel just smiled and nodded her head, then slowly rose from her seat to join Sky in standing, or rather her standing and Sky bouncing. She then looked over at the boy, who looked almost normal if it weren't for the fact that his face said he'd kill any of the girls at the table in a heartbeat. |
Penelope was pleased about this reaction. "I'm afraid I have wash duty. So, if you please, go ahead. But my room is very small." She said with a smile. "Sky, have fun will you, and do look after yourself." She added with a motherly warmth to her voice. "That girl Chanel, I'd watch out for her. She might take your chances." Warned Penny. It was clear that Penny disliked Chanel. "Something about her makes me want to take her head and smash it against the wall..." She added darkly, her eyes flashing with menace. Pen nodded in agreement, his honey hair bouncing lightly when he moved his head. His eyes were lighting with pride for Penelope. She was doing well.
Penelope made a soft shushing sound barely audiable over the din in the canteen. "Goodbye, Chanel." She said to the girl softly. "Enjoy your little walk." Pen grinned at those words. He was very pleased, for he now understood the plan. "Allies are useful in such a place." He said. "I commend you for your genius thought." He added with a cheerful grin. He ruffled Penelope's hair and sat down in the seat that Sky had left. He helped himself to some tea and waited patiently. Penny on the other hand did not like the idea one bit. "This could backfire. And you'd take the blame! Think of the consequences, think of the consequences!" She whispered angrily. Penelope was yet again annoyed. Her guardians were there to help, not to distract. But Penny was right about Chanel. Something wasn't right about that girl. She was planning something and Penelope didn't like it. Not one bit. |
Sky was still beaming and quickly grabbed Chanel's hand. She didn't understand what Penelope was saying and was slightly disappointed that she wouldn't be joining them. Sky liked her a lot.
However she didn't let this decision ruin her fun. 'Thank you Penelope!' she said in a sing-songy voice, trying to tug Chanel along with her. 'Let's go to the gardens! I don't like being there by myself. You can come with me and we can pick flowers!' Sky smiled at Chanel, thoughts of Penelope leaving her mind. Sky didn't know why she didn't like going to the institute gardens by herself. The garden was hidden behind the building. It was a nice big space of green with short, neatly kept hedges, big round poplar trees, some bolted down metal benches and rows of flowers. There was also a nice fountain in the middle of the garden but that was kept off limits as some would try to drown in there. There weren't many birds or animals but Sky didn't mind. When she would run across fields there were sheeps and cows and horses. Sky would always approach in a friendly manner but they always saw her as a threat, kicking out at her. The gardens looked nice enough - much safer than the wide empty fields - dotted with carers every direction you looked. Sky always wanted to see the gardens but was too afraid by herself. She would always venture out into the fields by herself....until that day a man followed her. She saw the shadow of a man with a hat, fumbling his way towards her. It was twilight and Sky knew her mother would be worried if she didn't return back to the cottage soon. Sky ran through the fields but still saw the sihouette of the man moving in her direction. She never remembered if the man actually did catch up to her. All she remembered was waking up in pain in a muddy puddle, her frock crumpled and her long white socks gone, and her mother forbidding her from then on to venture in the fields. Sky snapped out of those memories, squeezing tightly onto Chanel's hand. |
Penelope watched the cheerful girl leave, and felt a twinge of guilt. She was beginning to like the girl like a little sister and it was horrible to see her go off with someone who Penelope didn't trust. She hardly trusted anyone to be truthful, but she was paranoid. And then she thought about the food she had just eaten. I'll get fat... I'm already fat... She thought to herself, stood up and rushed to the nearest bathroom, carers at her heels.
Penelope locked herself in the bathroom and her bulemic disorder was unleashed. She threw up, and felt horrible so she wetted her face and took a deep breath as she stared into a mirror. She looked fat to herself and kept pinching fat rolls that weren't there. She went back to the canteen and sat back down near the boy and waited. Now I'll stay thin again. She thought to herself. She looked out of the window. What if something happens? What if someone gets hurt? I should've gone with her. |
Sky's brief change in expression made Jason mentally smirk, the feeling of her sadness feeding into him calming down; however, he still kept up his glare, a good tactic to keep the other people at bay. Another girl came by, distracting his attention to her instead. It seemed that she was able to make "friends" with Sky better than anyone else was able to, taking the crazy girl away from the canteen. And good freaking riddance. The blond girl didn't seem to be up for sticking around either, rushing out. Wherever she went, it looked important or at least important enough that she'd run.
Having the same idea, he decided to get up from his table, caretakers already at his sides. He was used to it though, it was as if he was being stalked except he knew why these people were doing it. They were afraid of him. And then something distracted him. He could smell it in the air, but couldn't pinpoint where it was: smokes. Perhaps it was on the clothing of the caretakers or a nicotine patch, or maybe they really did have cigarettes. He didn't care and instead turned around to them. "Alright which of you has smokes?" he asked, "which one of you?" His voice was manic, as if he was ready to attack them. |
Penelope hadwalked back into the canteen, worried carers at her shoulders. "Talk to your therapist, dear." Said a motherly looking carer. Penelope shook her head and spotted the boy practically shouting at the other carers. She was thin, extremely so but she looked tough and fragile at the same time. She looked at her carers and then at the young man. He seemed angry. Real angry. Like maniacally angry. She stepped forwards, and felt a hand on her shoulder. She looked up and smiled. She would hang back. For now. She was still intruiged with this person, and was willing to risk getting hurt to get to understand him.
((Will edit later.)) |
Chanel grinned slightly, turned back to Penelope and nodded her head before Sky gave a final tug and squeeze to her hand. "Oh okay lets go!" She said warmly to Sky, turning her attention away from Penelope for a moment and let it rest on the boy who had remained silent for the entirety of her stay at the table. His loss... she couldn't help but think as she headed off to the garden with Sky. Though she had never spent time in the garden she knew from the first day she had come to the Institute that the center was off limits.
As they reached the garden, Chanel was surprised to see flowers in bloom and a well maintained garden. They walked on in silence, every now and then hearing the footsteps of a carer or two that turned as they approached. "Sky, how long have you been here?" Chanel couldn't help but wonder out loud. She stopped walking and looked at Sky waiting for an answer. |
Sky was buzzing with joy until Chanel brought up that question. She hated thinking about the past as her mind had buried her painful memories away long ago.
She stopped in her tracks, staring hard at the floor, crossing her arms and looking annoyed. 'Why do you ask me these stupid questions?' She said, sounding much older and more mature than how she usually acted. Sky tried to think back but found it hard. All she remembered was a cottage, and then being sent in a car, handcuffed to the institute. She didn't remember how long ago but this was, but from then on she saw this place as home, much better than how she lived before. Sky jerked her head up. Why is it better than before? She reluctantly thought about it, remembering the highschool teens abusing her and locking her in cupboards, spiking her drinks and making her do things she thought weren't possible. Sky shuddered a little in horror as she relived those memories, then she looked around at the institute and suddenly felt much more safer. She stepped closer to Chanel, the warmth exuding from her making her feel more secure. 'I'm not sure,' said Sky quietly, looking at Chanel. 'But I like this place. I have friends here..' she said, and gave Chanel a warm smile. |
