To Mr. Johnson, homeroom was a waste of time. He would much prefer that the ten minutes of the period be distributed to class time rather than this useless "class" in which students only wished to chat among themselves. This was why his rules for homeroom were far more stict than those for his regular classes--there would be no wasting of precious minutes in his classroom. Mr. Johnson looked at his students with a frown on his face. Homeroom frustrated him and this was why he frowned. Of course, he had no idea that his tudents thought that he frowned because he quite simply mean. If Mr. Johnson knew this, he would probably try and change his disposition towards homeroom, but he did not know this, so his homeroom was notorious for being the worst class any student had ever taken at Bridgewater, apart from health, of course.

While he rattled off his list of rules, Mr. Johnson watched the students. He noticed one girl sitting in the middle of the classroom with a wistful look about her. He thought about snapping her back to reality, but he realized that he didn't have the heart to. She reminded him a lot of his daughter. Mr. Johnson knew that he didn't get along well with his daughter, and he knew that he pushed her to hard at times, but it was always with the best intentions. He wished every night that they could grow closer to each other, like a father and his daughter should be.

Then, his thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the classroom door opening.

Addy reached Ms. Kay's room and quickly took a seat near the back. She liked a bit of variety in her classes, unlike other students who like to sit in the same spot in every class. She waited for the rest of the class to file in before she pulled out her pen and paper to doodle again. I can doodle in here...and I won't be penalized she thought to herself and grinned. She continued drawing chibi teachers, this next one looking quite a bit like her father, whom she wished wouldn't push so hard in academics.

"Hello indeed," replied Mr. Johnson, taking the sheet of paper the boy held out. "There appears to be a single seat open in the back right corner. Make yourself at home, but do know that I highly dislike tardyness." Mr. Johnson handed the student his schedule and turned back to the class. "There are--" Mr. Johnson paused and looked at his watch "--exactly seven minutes left in the period. You may talk amongst yourselves, but please the decimal level at a minimum." Mr. Johnson sat down at his desk and took out a novel he was reading.

Katherine watched as the boy walked ino the classroom. When he walked into the room, she got an impression that he was a bit rough around the edges. The way he held himself and spoke to Mr. Johnson only re-enforced this perception. It reminded her a lot of Takeo, the boy who lived next door to her father in Tokyo. She'd always thought that boys like that were somehow misunderstood, but sometimes she wondered how right she was about that. She supposed that the only way to find out was to get to know the person.

Katherine had watched as the boy headed to seat without really noticing she was doing so. When he smiled at her, she blused and quickly turned her head back to the front of the class. The fifteen minutes of homeroom passed by slowly for Katherine since she didn't know anyone in the class, and instead of trying to associate with people in the present, she thought about those in her past. Namely, this past summer. It wasn't as though her summer was completely different from other summers--she had the same friends, she did the same things in classes, and she went on the same trips with her father and stepmother--but at the same time, the summer had been completely different; it had changed her view of the world and of her life entirely. She only wished that she could experience it all again.

After a solid period of doodling and a teacher with her head down on a desk, the bell rang, signalling the end of homeroom. Addy sighed; she dreaded her next class. She never really liked English literature, and the fact that her father basically forced her to take Shakespeare made her sick to her stomach. She was sure she'd fail. She walked the long, yet rather short distance to her father's classroom. Most of his class was still filing out, some of them rubbing their eyes. She giggled to herself a little because she knew her dad would never approve of those students. She walked in the classroom and took a seat near the window so she could easily daze off into space.

Chandler walked out of the class room. He looked at his schedule. He had no idea where his next class was. Weren't fancy schools like this supposed to hire someone to show you around? He looked both ways in the hall and went to search for the office. He wanted to go home.

Amaya glanced at the clock. Homeroom would be over soon. She didn't have a specific homeroom class that year, some sort of glitch in the computer's scheduling system. Not that it mattered; she viewed homeroom as a waste of time. 15 minutes of doing nothing, just being counted as there or not there. The students didn’t even get a real grade for it anyways. Amaya suspected that the idea of homeroom was though up to torture teachers and students alike. Sighing, she dropped her head down on her desk, trying to drown out the noise from the classroom next door. It was silly, having homeroom and then not actually teaching anything in it. All the students had to do in that class was talk. Or, for some of the lazier students, rush to finish homework.

Finally, the bell rang, signaling the end of the boring class. Amaya sat up straight, waiting in hopeful silence. She loved Chinese and Japanese, and any language she could take that she already knew. Although she was fluent in Japanese, and nearly fluent in Chinese, she still took the classes. After class, she would often stay behind and talk to the teachers in that language. English was hard for her to understand, there were so many rules and different ways to form sentences. Amaya thought that being forced to take English all four years was a bigger waste of time than homeroom. She’d just be going back to Japan and maybe teaching in an elementary classroom. Or maybe she’d move to China and teach there. All that she knew was that she would never really need to learn English, aside from being able to understand it when it was spoken at her.

Lǎo shÄ« XĂș HĂłng walked into her second year Chinese class. Most of the students were already in their seats, silently waiting for her. She smiled happily when she saw that Amaya was once again in her class. During the last minute of the passing hour, she stepped up to the girl’s desk.

“Nǐ hǎo XiĂzo Amaya.”

“Lǎo shÄ« hǎo.” The girl responded with perfect pronunciation. Beaming, Lǎo shÄ« XĂș turned away and walked to the front of the class to begin another year of teaching.

Katherine made her way to the music room in a reverie, which she scolded herself for. She had been the one to choose to come here. She could have stayed at the Catholic school in Springdale, or even stayed with her father and continue her education in Tokyo, but she had chosen this school. Of course, she also scolded herself for her reasons of choosing this school. Sure, it was great academically and had a wonderful campus, kind faculty, and great facilities, but those hadn't been her only reasons.

Katherine wasn't sure exactly where she was going, but somehow she ended up right where she need to be, and two minutes to spare as well. The music "room" had a layout very similar to that in her old school. One entered through a set of double doors into a main hallway. along one side of this hallway were four different sound-proof practices rooms. On the other side, were two more practice rooms and another narrow hallway bordered by more practice chambers. At the end of the main hallway, was another set of double doors. These led to the main music room--room 524.

As Katherine passed down the hall, she glanced inside each practice room (or PR as she'd learned to say at Hollyhock High in Springdale). They were truly very well equiped. Each one had a thermostat that told the temperature and the humidty. These were adjustable, but you had to have the code in order to do so. Each room also had a piano and two nice stands. There was one large PR in which a baby grand sat sleek and elegant. Katherine longed to touch its ivory keys; she had never played a baby grand. Ever PR also had mirrors along one wall so that one could check one's posture. The windows that looked into the rooms had three inch thick glass, so that the smallest possible amount of sound escaped or entered the room.

As she went further down the hall, she noticed a large group gathered in front of one of the PR's. When the bell rang, the group scattered and out came a tall, handsome boy. She'd found him.

Chandler turned to look for the office to get help. This school was huge and he wasn't in the mood to maze around untill he happened to fall into the right class. He didn't even remeber where the office was. This was rediculous. He was getting frustrated. He strached his head and leaned against the wall.

Timo was feeling a little more confident at the conclusion of his last class. After his homeroom students came in, he introduced himself to them. He took attendance and continued with the daily announcements before allowing the students their free time. He began reading aloud from a piece of paper, "Bridgewater Academy would again like to welcome students both old and new..." He broke off and skimmed down the paper. After a brief moment he looked up to the class, "There are no announcements so nevermind. I guess reacquaint or introduce yourselves to one another until the bell rings." He sat at his desk and began to search for his teaching schedule.

((Well, I guess the world can't continue without me! Sorry for the loooooooong hiatus, guys. It was Lent. Anyway, I'm back, so let's get this thing up and running again, shall we?))

Katherine sat in the music room on the choir steps with her chin resting on her fist. She tried to pay attention to what the conductor was saying, but most of it slipped right out of her mind. Nothing seemed to stick around--just like the weather. Only ten minutes ago it had been brilliantly sunny outside of the windows of the classroom. Now, however, it was raining. And it wasn't Springdale rain, either. No, this way Tokyo rainy season rain. Sheets of water pouring down from the layer of dark gray-blue-green-brown clouds that hung ominously outside the window. Katherine's eyes wandered in that direction and she watched the steely sheets of water cascade down the panes.

".....auditions.....Thursday," the two words caught Katherine's attention and she pulled herself back into the here and now. "The pieces you will play from for your seating audition are at the front of the room. Basses closet to the door, then cellos, violas, and violins. Please pick one up on your way out and don't forget to practice. You may leave." Katherine blinked at the surprise of being let out early from a music class. She stood with the rest of the students and walked to the front of the room where she picked up a folder of music from the chairs marked with a lime-green sign that read "Violins." Katherine opened the folder as she left the room.

Inside were two violin concertos, a practice sheet, and a thin scale book. Katherine examined the concertos.

"Hmmm
Vivaldi and Bach," thought Katherine as she examined the pieces. "They don’t look all that difficult. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem if I practice." Katherine looked up from the music just in time to see that she would have run right into the door if she’d kept her nose inside the scores. As she walked through the doors, she saw Jun walking down the hall, a blond girl attached to his arm.

((I agree. This thing needs to be revived.))

Jun walked down the music hall with Jenna Merrimer attached to his arm. The two had only been dating for a couple of weeks, but Jenna had been ready to show that fact off before they'd even officially become an "item." Jun was occasionaly uncomfortable with this fact, but he knew that was just the way Jenna was. She was an outgoing and touchy-feely kind of girl. She gave him all the attention he needed in exchange for the attention he (and the rest of the school) gave her.

As they passed by the band room, Jun smiled at Katherine as she emerged from the practice hall. He wondered how she was getting on, but he wasn't too worried. Katherine seemed like the sort of girl who could take care of herself.

The two continued down the hall, meeting up with Jason, Todd, and Eric, Jun's firends since the eighth grade. Jenna hung around for a little while, listening and giggling slightly at the guys jokes, before she kissed Jun on the cheek and went to find Henna and Lin. Jun watched her leave.

"So, you guys seen the new girl yet?" asked Jason.

"Yeah, I met her this morning," said Jun.

"Nice. Liz told me she's her new roommate." Jun nodded in reply.

"Dude. You're totally head-over-heels for her!" laughed Todd.

"I have a girlfriend," said Jun, defensively.

"That's who we're talking about."

"Oh," Jun blushed, slightly. "Let's go get lunch." The four headed to the cafeteria, Eric playing with his yo-yo as they walked. When they joined the rest of the school in the mess hall, Jun saw Liz guiding Katherine to a table outside.

"Let's eat in the courtyard today," he told his friends.

Roah walked into her favorite teacher's room. "Fuck, I have nowhere to go tonight." She kicked over one of the desks.

It was 1am and she'd been wandering the hall since 5. She pulled up the teacher's big comfy chair and placed it next to a desk. With her legs outstretched on a desk in front of her, she fell asleep sitting up.

Katherine couldn't sleep. She sighed and looked over at her clock. 1 AM. She slapped her hand to her forehead and sat up in bed. She got up and got dressed into jeans and a T-shirt. She picked up her violin from beside the door and walked over to the school. The night air was pleasant and the air was filled with the smell of damp earth and trees.

Inside, Katherine made her way through the dark halls to the practice rooms. It took her almost twenty minutes to remember where they were, but that didn't really make much of a difference to her. In the practice room, she set her case on the piano bench and opened it. She withdrew her bow and turned the end to the right three times to tighten the bowhair. Then, she set it back in the case and took out the violin. From inside the longer compartment above the violin, she brought out her shoulder rest and attached it to the back of the violin. Katherine hefted the instrument up onto her shoulder and adjusted the shoulder rest until it was comfortable. Then, she drew her bow across her A string.

Name: Kale Sanders
Age: 17
Year/position in school: sophomore
Hometown: Allensburgh, IN
Written physical description: Standing at 6'3", Kale Sanders was the tallest boy in his grade. He was also the most athletic. An any given day, he had at least one practice. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning was tennis. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning was baseball. In the afternoons, you could either find him inside on the basketball court or outside with a soccer ball. He was lean, toned, and tanned, and his blond hair helped to accentuate this.
A little bit about your personality: Kale tended to be a bit of a rebel. His last school was a private Catholic boys boarding school in Wisconsin and he was thrown out for smoking and refusing to "conform." However, he was generally well-liked, especially by the ladies. He can be rather cocky and flirtatious. On the flip side, he has an extreme affinity for music and art, and is extremely loyal. He is like a coconut--a very hard shell that is nearly impossible to crack, but much softer on the inside.
Pet Peeve: People who "judge a book by its cover."
Favorite subject/subject taught: Music (cello), photography, art, French (the "language of romance").

Kale Sanders was up in the tree when she passed by. She was simply clas in frayed jeans and a green T-shirt and she was caring an instrument case. From first glance, Kale guessed in was a violin. He could be wrong though; it could be a viola. But the girl didn't look like a violist, so he assumed she was caring a violin.

She walked toward Academy Hall clearly thinking her way through. She was new here. But Kale had already guessed before he saw where she was headed. Kale watched her walk for a few more minutes, and then easily jumped down from the tree. It was much too early for her to be walking around on campus aimlessly. He stood from his landing position and brushed off his jeans. He watched her walk on for a few more minutes before following her into Academy Hall.

It took her a while to find her way to the the practice rooms, but when she found them she went right to work bring out her violin, tightening the bow, and tuning. The A came out crystal clear, though a tad bit flat.

((Sorry guys; writer's block))

Katherine wrinkled her nose as the off-pitch A hung in the air. She reached out underneath the violin with her right hand and turned the appropriate peg back and forth until the pitch settled on the ocrrect one. Then, she proceeded to turn the D, G, and E strings in the same manner, checking them against the closet open string.

Tuned, Katherine began her scales. She no longer thought through her scale and arpeggios, even though she played through three octaves; the notes had become automatic a long time ago. She played her scales for close to fifteen minutes, making sure she went through the whole circle of fifths.

Next, she took out the folder she'd received in orchestra and took out the material for the chair auditions. Vivaldi was one of Katherine's favorite composers, and she'd already played this particular concerto, so she saved it to practice last. Katherine opened the Bach concerto up on the stand and began sight-reading.
