"You asked me how I felt, and I told you," Andy protested. What more could he be asking for? "I just... I don't want to become dependant on anyone. I'm so used to trying to do things for myself... And now I'm in a situation where I just physically can't. I don't have the funds myself to go through college and raise a child at the same time, and I know I'm going to be struggling to juggle school and a job and a child at the same time... I know you're offering to help," she added before he could protest, "but I'm not used to being offered help. I mean, besides from my parents."
"Then what am I here for? I've never NOT had someone to support. Please, just... let me make this less stressful. It's my fault you are having a child, or well, partially my fault. And you don't HAVE to get a job, you know I can pay for everything. And if I have to pay your parents so they'll pay for you I will. Stress can be bad for you AND the baby. I need a no-stress girl having my kid. You're just asking for it. I want you to do what you want, whether that be yoga, or scrapbooking, or hanging out with friends... It's all up to you. But I don't want my pregnant... girlfriend? I don't know... Stressed out at work, just because she has to pay for college that I can get her a free ride through. My grandpa would have killed me if he knew I made you pay your own way through. Seriously. Please let me pay. Please. At least some of it!"
"I know my parents will help me, if I ask for it," Andy said. "But I like being independant. I like earning my own money, even if it seems like pocket change compared to you. And I like feeling useful. I've had a job before, and for the most part, I liked it. I have a job now, but they gave me the first weekend of school off to finish moving in. They won't cut my hours, because I work so few to begin with during the year, but I won't be as useful as I get closer to term."
He kissed her forehead and nodded. "Fine. Work and be stressed." He said and laid back, his eyes rolled as he spoke. He hated how others could feel such gratituity from simple work when they could enjoy their life instead. He ad a value of money, he only spent it on the necessities. He didn't overspend more than a normal person. Maybe he bought a few CD's more than others in a year and had a better laptop and shopped at Kmart, not walmart, but that's how he was raised. The only thing he waisted money on was his cars. And that's because if he didn't, his grandpa would look down on him. The number one coolest man in the world only had two cares in his life. Sex. And Cars. So, now that Nathaniel had Andy for the sex part, even if it was only once... he still had all the cars to catch up on. His grandfather had owned 30 in his lifetime. Nathaniel was about to have to buy his 4th.
"I didn't say I was going to reject any help," Andy pointed out, irritated. "I just need to get used to the idea of not being as independant as I like. You know, not all of us are able to afford everything we could ever want." She stopped before she could actually get angry and took a deep breath. "Sorry. My hormones might be starting to flare up."
"I'm being a brat. Don't worry, it's not all just you. At least you have a legit reason." He said and put her shirt back down over her belly. He was too tempted to but his lips on her skin and that just... wasn't right in this situation. "Okay, so I'm only majorly embarassed at the moment... We need to find a happy medium between us. The reliable and the independant... We should have a book written about us, I'd like to see the way it ends. I bet I die in a car accident, and you die of a heart attack." He then looked at the ceiling. "What are we? We act like kids half the time, the other half we act like lust-struck teenagers confused where they stand, and a very small portion of the time we're the adults we are supposed to be. So between us... where do we... where do we fit. Friends who are having a kid? Dating? Fucking? All of it I'm sure has a possibility of an upgrade with time. Just... What am I allowed to do when your parents are in the room? That type of stuff."
"I'm... not sure," Andy admitted. "I guess I wouldn't mind tentative dating, and we can see where it goes from there... And it's not as if you can get me any more pregnant than you already have." She wasn't quite sure where they stood, either. Things were just moving so fast, she didn't have the chance to really take a good look at them. Just the week before, she didn't even know her roommate's name, and now she was having his baby.
"Tentative dating. I'm a criminology major. Not the writer of the dictionary. Is that a... noun?" He asked quietly, a teasing undertone laced in his words. "Alright so the first stages of dating. "At least we'll have an interesting story to tell the grandchildren. Unless the gay son is the only one we have. Awhhh I wanted to be a granddad when I was like... old." He said and grinned, resting an arm on the girls arm. "So we could say that this whole mess started with our first date, we messed up, but we're going to test the waters, and if it seems the right consistencies... we'll see from therel" He removed his arm from hers and sat back quietly, waiting for a real conversation to start up.
"Well, if it's any consolation," Andy said as she cuddled a bit, "you asked if you would ever know if it was real affection or a side-effect from riding a high... Well, I've barely used my talent at all since last night. Maybe little things, like hitting the lights or picking up a laptop, but nothing more than that." As if to prove her point, she manually set her laptop down on the table next to the bed.
"Well... that's good to know, but you haven't showed much attraction since. You've shown what any girl would do if her friend got ran over by a car. "I didn't say that to get in your pants either, I just... Nevermind, you're not doing anything wrong so I don't know what my problem is. Sorry." He said and flicked the channels on the tv with the ugly, old remote. The hospital really needed an upgrade.
"Then I'll just assume you're not paying attention because you got hit by a car," Andy said as she sat up. She'd never been a very open person, both out of necessity and by nature, but she'd been trying to get over that. Obviously, he hadn't noticed that she'd been slowly cuddling closer ever since she got there. Maybe he really did just want to get into her pants...
He put his hand on her stomach again, noticing her getting tense beside him. Had she moved closer? It was hard to tell on such a small bed, they had to be touching either way, close or far, they were going to be right next to each other. He didn't notice a change, but he could blame that on just being a guy. "I'll pay closer attention, then." He said and slid his hand across her naval again. "I like your skin, it's soft and smooth... Guys don't get that quality. I find it's not very fair in the way of life." He said with a small smile. "Have you ever had any piercings?"
"If I had any piercings, you would have noticed," Andy pointed out dryly, blushing as he complimented her skin. "After all, you've seen everything. All I have are the two sets in my ears." Reaching up, she pushed her hair out of the way so he could see the two pairs of studs. "I'm not really all that into permanent body art. Besides, if I had any body piercings, I would have to take them out soon anyways."
"What I was asking was if you've ever HAD any. I could see you as a rebel with a belly button ring at age 13. Did it at a slumber party... It would have been hot, but yes it would have had to come out anyway..." He said and smiled. "And your ears are cute too, piercings and all. He kissed the spot just beside her ear and smirked. "It's been awhile since a nurse has been in. I think they've finally decided to stop badgering me about inspecting my brain." He said and gave a small yawn. "Your brother looks like you. Without the boobs and hair. He really does... I don't know where that came from, just thought I should say it."
"You're not the only one whose brain scans would come out weird," Andy said. "Mine would, Jason's might, my grandmother's would... We use more of our brains, so any scans would come out strange. I'm not sure if Jason's would or not, though, because his talent is very much a physical talent rather than a mental one like ours are." Slowly, she laid back and gradually cuddled with him again.
This time Nathaniel did notice when she cuddled closer. He smiled, wrapped an arm around her and put the fruit on the bedside table. "I'm glad you're STILL here. Don't let me run you off, okay? I say stupid things, I suppose it's in my nature." He spoke quietly before kissing her cheek and closing his eyes. "You're going to be a great mother, stressed or not. I know it and so does everyone else. They're jealous of your awesomeness. And don't deny your awesomeness either, because that's just annoying." He said and grinned, for some reason his hand made it back to her stomach and he knew something was strange between him and her. "We'll never be a normal family, you know that right?"
"Considering neither of us were normal to begin with, that doesn't surprise me," Andy replied. She sighed softly as he held her. "How are you so sure I'll be a good mother? Aside from my talent, I'm nothing special..." To her, it was true. She had no special skills aside from literally working hands-free. She had no idea how she was going to raise a child...
"You've got that... mom thing about you. You rushed here when I was hurt, you didn't question it, you just came. You brought me fruit salad, you were playful with my family, you can't stand my family... Everything makes who you are a good mother." He said and kissed the tip of her nose and winked. "Okay, there's also the fact we'll never have to buy a mobile. You can just raise your keys and some toys and make them spin in the air. What I'm worried about it... when they go out in public, how do we teach them not to use their powers?"
"That will depend on their powers," Andy said. She shrugged a bit. "We'll teach them how I was taught. Start teaching them restraint from an early age, so that when their powers develop, they already know not to use them unless they're at home, or in a safe place." Glancing at the fruit salad, she floated a couple of pieces to herself.
Nathaniel smiled. "See, motherly nature. My parents didn't give a flying flip what I did in public, so I'd been raised being scrutinized by people who thought I was crazy." He said and bit his lip. He leaned forwards and grabbed an apple slice out of thin air with his teeth. he chewed happily and then smirked. "You keep doing your parlor tricks and I'm gonna get ideas. Be careful what you do around me. Smart people have dirty minds." He teased and kissed her cheek. "Mmmm now you taste like apple."
"I'd rather do parlor tricks and keep my wits about me than work some serious mojo and lose my inhibitions for a while," Andy pointed out. She grinned. "Library science majors have the dirtiest minds," she corrected teasingly. "We have access to everything. Though the psychology majors would disagree on the grounds that they know Freud." Floating another piece of apple to her to replace the one he took, she plucked it out of the air and ate it. "There is something I've been working on, though... I haven't worked out all the logistics, yet."
"Oooh tell, tell. I can't go on much longer without knowing." He said and skimmed his finger over her jaw, his mind still learning her every curve and dip. His hands trailed down the girls jaw and neck to the collar of her shirt. He moved his hand to his side and watched her quietly. "Come on, spill the beans."
"Well..." Andy said, "You know how it feels when someone touches your skin?" She took his hand and rubbed it gently with her thumb to demonstrate. "I've been practicing doing that without actually physically touching anything." Letting his hand go, she concentrated and reached out gently with her power, trying to make it seem like she was running a fingertip down the back of his hand. She wasn't sure exactly how well it worked.
"Hold on, don't touch me for a minute." He could sense her power but they had just been touching so he wasn't sure how loud everything was. He let the sounds come towards him and he nodded. "Okay, they're loud. Now do the power-y thing." He said quietly, trying not to make his own head ache worse than it was. He bit his lip as he felt the power slide over his skin and the noises dulled. It wasn't as good as pure touch, but it worked. "Damn... Does it drain you too much?"
"Not that I've noticed," Andy replied. She reigned her power back in, as much as it usually was. "It's just complicated, like trying to learn how to control a second pair of arms. I keep wanting to use my physical hands rather than my power, and I have to keep seperating the two. It uses about the same amount of power as anything else I do on a daily basis."
