"A week without you? I'd want to stay up as much as I can and be with you. Although... I really feel like sleep." He said and entered their room. He grabbed boxers, slid them on and rid himself of his towel. He crawled into the bed and kissed her cheek and closed his eyes. "Dead tired."
"Tired too," Andy murmured, snuggling closer to him. "It was a long few days... I didn't like being away from you and Riley." She used her power to set the baby monitor on the nightstand next to the bed, and she checked to make sure it was on. She knew Riley would be awake soon, but until then, she'd get as much sleep as she could. "Love you," she added softly as she dozed off.
Nathaniel muttered muffled vows of his love and pulled her close. For some reason, at times like this it didn't matter if they were engaged or married, he loved her all the same. **** The next morning the male woke up and he blinked tiredly into the morning light. How had their child not woken up to screaming. He closed his eyes and touched his girlfriend, closing his eyes. She hadn't woken up during the night either. He kissed her, slowly and smiled. "Wake up, chica. Your son should be awake in the next 30 seconds."
Andy blinked and stretched when he woke her up. She'd slept very soundly, though she had no doubt that if Riley had woken up, she would have as well. It was just one of those things that happened. She was about to ask why Nathaniel woke her up when Riley's crying came over the baby monitor. Goraning softly, Andy got up.
"I've got it," she said. She went into the nursery and gently picked Riley up out of his crib. "Shh... it's alright, baby," she murmured to him as she sat down in the rocking chair. "I know you didn't like me being gone, but I'm back now..." She knew he was hungry, so she didn't waste any time in feeding him. She'd only been gone a few days, so it wasn't like they had to switch him to bottled formula permanently yet. |
"He missed you so much... Almost as much as I did." Nathaniel said from the doorway and rested his forehead against the door frame. He watched the two and smiled. "Do you feel alright this morning? And if you say yes, I'll make waffles." He said, grinning.
"I feel a lot better this morning," Andy replied as Riley nursed. "And I'm not just saying that to get waffles." She really did feel better, now that she was back home with her boyfriend and son. She bounced Riley gently once he was done to make sure he burped, and then checked to see if he needed to be changed. She was already getting back into her usual routine.
Nat smiled and rolled his eyes. "Fine, fine. I'll take your lies and make some waffles." He teased and then stretched. "I'll be in the kitchen, I think I have some mashed bananas for Riley." He said and then shrugged, his body stopping short in motion as he got a vision. He closed his eyes and glanced up. "There's a fire... And I think your brother... I can't tell when..." He whispered and sighed, glancing back at her. "Has he ever been in a fire?"
"Not to my knowledge," Andy replied, more alert now. She hated it when Nathaniel's visions worried her like that. "Did you see anything else?" Meaning anything useful that Jason could be warned about. Getting up, she took Riley over to the changing table and put him into one of the onesies that her cousins had given to her for Christmas. It gave her something for her hands to do.
"Sweety, he didn't seem scared. Just a simple house fire. I only saw woodwork and the fire wasn't big yet." He said and touched his pocket and dug out his phone. He texted the male, asking if he was fine. "Don't worry." He said and then raised an eyebrow. "Come on, waffles and mashed bananas on the way. Don't be so uptight, he'll be fine. I've seen him when he was 80. They both knew the future could change, but he wasn't going to say that.
"I'm going to be worried until I know he's alright," Andy replied. That would be her maternal instincts coming out in full-force. She'd definitely been away from her family for too long if she was worrying over her brother, too. Propping up Riley on her hip, she followed Nathaniel into the kitchen. She hadn't realized just how much she missed it until Riley grabbed little fistfuls of her shirt to hang on to her.
He nodded, took her hand and kissed it as his phone vibrated. He looked at the text, smiled and handed it to his girlfriend. "See? NOw stop worrying." He said as he pulled out the baby food and handed it to her. He then started on the waffles, mixing the batter. He stretched, moving around the kitchen and then smirked. "How did we get here from that amazing day when I met you and we went out for Asian food?"
"Riley happened, remember?" Andy teased as she put the baby into his high chair. She was fairly sure he wouldn't want much of the mashed bananas, but that was alright. They were still in the process of weaning him. Opening the jar, she stirred up the baby food a bit and started to feed him. "And eventually, Annabelle will happen."
"Eventually. As soon as you say yes to me, Annabelle WILL happen..." He said and then sighed. "Ooooh wait. He's allergic to bananas." He muttered and glanced up at her. "Here, have some... green stuff." He muttered, handing her the jar. "We'll just have to remember that." He muttered, thanking the gods he had his power. He continued cooking and grabbed two plates.
Andy was used to him changing things suddenly by now, so she wasn't surprised when he took the jar of bananas from her and handed her the other jar.
"Eventually, I'll say yes," she agreed. She just wouldn't say when. The trip to Japan had put some things into perspective for her, so she would definitely say yes, eventually. Once Riley decided he'd had enough of the green mush, Andy cleaned him up and sat down herself. |
"I just wished you'd know when you'd say yes. I hate knowing half the future... It's hard to connect the dots sometimes." He said, glancing at his son. The childs smile looked so much like his fathers, and Nathaniel couldn't help to grin right along with him. He pulled the food from the heat and laid them out on plates and handed on to Andy. Nathaniel grabbed forks and handed one to her then sat down to eat. "I want another one. One more and I'll be the happiest man in the world." He whispered, sliding the fork over his lower lip, watching Riley.
"You already said you saw two more," Andy pointed out. "Though I get the feeling you're a bit fuzzy on the last one." Of course, she wouldn't mind a second child, but she did want to be married first. Even though Nathaniel hadn't been there to experience it with her, she'd enjoyed her pregnancy, for the most part. She worked through her breakfast steadily, occasionally making one of Riley's toys dance on the high-chair tray to keep him occupied.
"Yeah two. I just need one more though. That whole 2.5 kids, white picket fence... I want that for us. I want us to watch our kids grow up and not be too old to be the soccer dad... I don't want to be too old to do these things..." He muttered and glanced at her. She didn't understand, he died sooner than later. He wouldn't tell her that. But it felt urgent to see his kids grow up. He smiled at her and then took another bite of his food. "Okay, not until you say yes, but no waiting until I'm 30 to say yes." He said and smiled gently.
"The more you keep pushing the issue, the longer I'm going to refuse," Andy said. She did want to marry him, she really did, but it was also in her nature to be proud and contrary. She wanted to build that life with him, and there were times when she asked herself why she was still refusing to say yes.
"The longer you refuse, the closer to menopause you are." He teased. He leaned over, kissing her cheek and then glanced at Riley. "And I'm not pushing, I'm suggesting. I'm suggesting that the next time we have sex in the bathtub you lay on your back for 14 minutes afterwards so you get pregnant, say yes to me, get married and have a beautiful kid. I like this idea." He said, still teasing. He knew she would say yes at some point. It was just a matter of getting her there.
"You're making it really hard for me to remember why I keep refusing," Andy said. Her resolve was wavering a bit. She wanted to say yes, she wanted that family life. Hell, they were already half-way there. But she didn't want to say yes just because it had been foretold. She wanted to say yes on her own. "You seem to have everything planned out already."
"No, I just know how it plays out." Nathaniel said, sighing as he looked at his son. "He needs to make his first snow man... Do you want to bundle him up?" He asked, touching his girlfriends chin and kissing her lightly. He loved her, whether it was enough to get her to marry him it didn't matter, loving her and having Riley were the best things he had ever done.
"You mean he needs Mama to make his first snowman for him," Andy corrected after the kiss. "It didn't snow that much last night, did it?" A quick glance out the window made her roll her eyes. "Of course it did, what am I questioning it for?" She gave Nathaniel another kiss. "You can bundle him up, since I'm sure he needs changed by now and it's your turn. I need to go find my good boots and my gloves."
"Hmmm you're such a good, sexy mama though. With a very nice body, perfect for snow man making." He teased and picked up his son, and walked to the boys bedroom. He got him changed, and bundled up in warm clothes, taking him outside. He set him down and watched him crawl on the snow, laughing. When it touched his face he squealed and rolled a bit, sitting on the snow, playing with the white flakes until they melted, surprising him.
"He's never seen this much snow," Andy commented as she joined them outside. "Last time it snowed this much, I was still pregnant with him." She propped herself up in the air and sat down, watching her son play. She used her power to scoop up a little snow and swirl it around him a bit, making him giggle.
Nathaniel grabbed his girlfriends waist and pulled her down, onto his lap. "Well, we know HE'S a winter fan." Nathaniel muttered and shook his head. "I despise the cold." He said and kissed her cheek. "He is so much like you it's not funny."
