"Well, I suggest you get used to the cold," Andy teased. "Because I won't live anywhere that it doesn't get cold for at least part of the year." She turned a bit and gave him a kiss. "And I think he's more like you than me." Leaning down, she picked up Riley when he crawled over to them, and settled him in her lap. "We shouldn't keep him out here long, he'll get cold a lot faster than we will."
"Yeah." He muttered and watched her grab Riley. "I love you and I will live wherever you want. You know that." He said and smiled, opening the door for them to reenter the house. "What's your plans for today?"
"I didn't have any plans for the day," Andy replied as she went into the house. She took off her outer layers, and then started to take Riley's little coat and boots off of him. He fought her a bit, and she recognized that he was getting cranky. Once she got his snowy things off of him, she went to the rocking chair and sat down, rocking slowly to calm him down.
Nathaniel sighed and sat on the couch, turning the TV on and turning down the volume, looking at the soccer game. He then sighed. "50 on Pele." He muttered, and watched Pele win the game. He flicked to the next channel and yawned.
[[Okay, we need something to spice this up]] |
((Skipping ahead))
Andy stepped down from the stage, her diploma in her hand. Finally, she was done with her undergraduate degree. Grinning, she went over to her parents. Her mother was holding Riley, keeping him quiet and behaved. She took her son from her mother. "Hey, baby," she said as she propped him on her hip and kissed his forehead. He was just about a year old, now, and could walk on his own. That didn't mean she didn't still like holding him. |
Nathanael smiled, his hands in his pockets as he saw his girlfriend descend the stage and take Riley almost immediately. He raised his camera and took a picture with one hand, leaving the other to remain in his pocket. He went to her, kissing her cheek. "Congratulations." Little did she know, but Nathanael was saying this for two very different reasons. Graduating and a mistake. A very happy, bubbly mistake that would one day throw peanut butter into Riley's hair and make it have to be shaved. It would be an adventure. That was for sure. He smiled and knew he wouldn't propose to her right then and there. No... He was going to wait. He didn't know when, but right nwo, he wasn't going to steal this moment from her.
Andy turned and gave him a kiss, Riley still on her hip.
"Now just graduate school to do," she said. "Two more years, and we can decide what to do from there." Of course, she had no idea yet what he was really congradulating her for, but she would figure it out soon enough. Reaching over, she took the camera from him, and then handed him Riley. "Hold your son so I can get a picture." |
"Get a picture on YOUR graduation day? Sweety I think you have this all wrong!" He said and laughed, taking Riley and then smiled at the camera, tickling his sins foot so he'd laugh. He let her take the picture and smiled. Two more years and she'd be out of school, and they could live out her dreams, and that's all he wanted. He hoped it wasn't rushing up on her too fast. He kissed her again quickly and wrapped his free arm around her.
"It's your graduation, too," Andy reminded him as she handed back the camera. "Or did you not notice as you walked across the stage and accepted your diploma?" She waved at a few of her former classmates as they walked by, but she didn't do much more than that. She was a bit more preoccupied with her boyfriend and son. "At least with grad school, I'll have more time to spend with you and Riley. Nine credits a semester compared to eighteen and all that."
"But I've been living this out my entire life... Really it's not that great for me." He said and then kissed her softly. "You get a break before you must return to school, which is good, because we need to talk, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be bigger than one night talks..." He muttered, kissing her forehead. "Come on, let's go eat with your parents and then go home... Or is there more on your agenda?"
"I had nothing else planned," Andy replied. "Why, what do we need to talk about? And why would I need a break from school? I figured it was best to get it all done at once and get it out of the way." That was her original plan, anyways. Though she had a sneaking suspicion that her plans were all about to get changed, somehow. She just didn't know how, yet.
"You need a couple weeks off, trust me." He whispered into her ear and then smiled at his son who yanked on his hair. "Riles. Ow." He said and grinned, taking his hand and then handing him to his mother. "I have to go talk to your grandmother. You go with your family, alright? I'll drive her to the restaurant and meet you all there." He kissed her and smiled. "I love you." He said softly.
"I love you, too," Andy replied, returning the kiss. She gently untangled Riley's hand from Nathaniel's hair and shifted him to her other hip. "Don't pull your dad's hair, Riley," she said softly. She turned back to Nathaniel. "Don't be late, alright? I'll be annoyed with you if you're late, and you'll end up on the couch or something."
"For being late to dinner with your parents. Sweety, you've been late for worse things." He said and grinned, giving her something to think about. He kissed his sons cheek. "Be good for your mommy." He winked and went to her grandmother. "Hello." He said and she rose her eyes to meet his.
"Out of wedlock for a second time Nathaniel? Tsk Tsk." He smiled, glad to know it was true. "Is it Annabelle? I can't narrow it down..." Andy's grandmother just smiled and grabbed her purse, walking to the car with him. "Is Andy going to be okay?" She nodded, still not answering the Annabelle question. They headed to the restaraunt, arriving just after everyone else. He shut off the car and opened the door for Andy's grandma and he smiled. "You can't tell me if she says yes either, can you?" "Just ask, Nathaniel, and find out." "I'm tired of making a fool of myself... There seems to be no easy way to ask her." "She's a girl. There is no easy way to ask her. None. Deal." He grinned as they met up with the others. "Hey. Told you I wouldn't be too late." |
Andy was just settling Riley into his high-chair when Nathaniel walked in.
"You're practically on time," she teased, giving him a kiss. "What did you two talk about? Anything I need to know?" She glanced between him and her grandmother. She knew that look that her grandmother was wearing. It was that knowing, I-know-your-future-so-I-know-best look. "And neither of you are going to tell me. Should I just call Danny?" "There's no need to bother Danny," her grandmother said. "You'll find out everything you need to know in due time." |
"LIsten to your grandma. And hell, she won't even tell me." He said and then kissed her softly. "So, what's good here. And please don't say sushi, I've had enough." He teased his girlfriend, wrapping an arm around her. "CHICKEN!" Riley yelled and he laughed. Figures, the boy knew 3 words and one had to be chicken. Of course that word applied to any kind of food... So it was not much of a hint of what he really wanted to eat.
"No calling Danny though. Promise me." He said and grinned. |
"I blame you for that one," Andy teased as she gave Riley his binky to keep him occupied. She was already prepared, and went into the diaper bag for the little sandwich-sized bag of pear-bits. It would be a bit sticky and messy, but the pear bits were healthy and soft enough for Riley to eat.
While his sister was distracted, Jason decided to take matters into his own hands a bit. It was about time for his sister and her boyfriend to get engaged already. He quickly wrote a note on a bit of napkin and passed it to Nathaniel. If you're looking for the right moment, after dinner might be it. |
Nathaniel rose an eyebrow, waiting for Riley to do something to gain his mothers attention. He wrote quickly on the napkin, "Make sure they bring out her dessert with 'Marry Me?". I called them earlier, they just need to know it's us." He handed it back and slid his hand over his girlfriends as he glanced at the menu. "I think the chicken looks fantastic. What do you want sweety?"
Jason nodded and quickly excused himself.
"I was thinking the pasta," Andy replied. She watched her brother leave the table, and had a feeling something was going on that she didn't know about. She couldn't do anything about it, though, so she was content to keep an eye on her son and make sure he didn't get too sticky from the now-mushed fruit. |
When the waiter came to take their orders, he ordered for the three of them and let everyone else order their food. "I'm paying." He told the male and then grinned. He looked at Riley who banged the table with his hand and he smirked. "Stop Riley, you know better." He said and glanced at Andy. "You look beautiful. Who did your hair?" He asked, touching it gently as her family all talked around them.
"I went to my favorite hairdresser," Andy replied. She reached over and gently grabbed Riley's hand when he banged on the table again. "No, baby, no banging on the table." She looked at Nathaniel again. "So why am I under the impression that you and my brother are working together at something?"
"Because we are." he said and kissed her cheek. "You will just have to wait just like everyone else." he said and then smirked. He was surprised her food cravings hadnt kicked in. He smiled to andys mother as she flung a piece of bread across the table at Riley who squealed and reached for the piece.
Andy rolled her eyes at her mother and reached over to pick up the piece of bread. After making sure to take the crust off, since it was too tough for Riley, she gave it to him.
"Honestly, Mama," she said. "What?" her mother asked innocently. "I'm allowed to spoil my grandson." |
"I think it's cute." Nathaniel said and laughed, touching his girlfriends shoulder. "He's not a month old anymore, and he has a few budding teeth. If you don't let him gnaw on something, he's going to have fragile teeth. like the british." He said and grinned, kissing her cheek softly and slid his hand into hers. He slipped off his classes and set them on the table and then smiled. It was too bad his family was a babling bunch of baffoons, they missed out on a lot.
"I just don't want him to choke or anything," Andy replied. "I haven't had the time to go out and buy him teething rings yet, so unless you thought ahead for me..." She didn't even blink when her grandmother reached into her purse and pulled out a plastic sandwich bag with a few teething rings in it. "Right," Andy said. "Thanks, Nana." She opened the bag and gave Riley one of the rings.
