Rafe hardly moved when Moonbeam entered the room. The vampire had seated himself on the bed, one infant in each arm as he "tenderly" looked upon them. "Animals," he said quietly, "just like the rest of you." His black eyes moved to meet Moonbeam's, and he smiled slightly. "Ironic. The most important part of your pack is your own children. You'd die for them, wouldn't you?"
Slowly stepping up behind Moonbeam, Devan grit his teeth. Of course Rafe was here. Where else would he have been? There was no trouble without him; his presense was practically expected. Just as the vampire bore his fangs, Rafe clicked his tongue in disapproval.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." Leaning down, he kissed both of the twin's foreheads. "It might cause me to do something . . . brash."
From where he stood, Senri glanced in Moonbeam's direction before letting his gaze shoot back to the children. 'They were in my hands, Moonbeam!' His thoughts were loud and clear, edged with anger and wolfish instincts. If Rafe moved again, he was going to be attacked. Just seeing the vampire kiss the children's heads made Senri's growl become a snarl, and he took a threatening step closer. One of the twins whimpered as Rafe's ice-cold hand pressed against her cheek.
"It would be a shame to see such an innocent face scarred so soon."

Moonbeam watched in fear and shook her head. "I would die for anyone in my pack...." she whispered and then flinched seeing her little girl wine and whimper. "Rafe please..." she whispered and looked at him. Fang suddenly appeared behind her with Yuki in his hands and growled softly. "We'll get them back moonbeam.... Don't worry...." he thought to her softly and even when he did she did not feel much better. "Rafe.... What is it? Why are uou doing this?.... They are innosent.... If you wish to hurt me hurt me... Do not take it out upon my family." she said bravely.

"Your family means the world to you," Rafe's black eyes moved to Moonbeam, and he lifted his head stubbornly. "They are your greatest strength, and worst weakness. You would never forgive yourself if something happened to them because of you." The vampire smiled "softly," his expression becoming kind. "If you want them back, then my family must not be involved with this little group of animals."
Devan began to hiss, but was silenced by Nayin's hand. It wouldn't take much for Rafe to finally snap - and while he had the infants, that had to be avoided at all costs. The two vampires watched their kin, thought on the elder's features. He didn't seem extremely alarmed - he wasn't attached to this pack quite yet. Devan, on the other hand, looked ready to launch himself across the room and rip his brother to shreds. The only thing holding him back was his father's hand, tight on his shoulder.
Hearing Kyomi (Kiyomi?) whimper brought Senri's growl to a crescendo. A final snarl tore through his lips as he shifted forms, shaking off the last shreds of clothing. As the werewolf's single gray eye met Rafe's gaze, the two seemed to freeze. "It seems that more than just the babies will suffer." His grip about both Kei and his sister tightened, and Rafe let a sadistic smile cross his face. "I don't mind trouble, dog. Stop your growling and do something worth doing."

Moonbeam looked at Rafe and tears ran down her cheeks. "Kiyomi!" she gasped hearing her baby whimper and she stopped seeing Senri faze. "Senri don't." she commanded firmly and her hands shook. Suddenly in a flash of movement the grey skinned hybrid kicked Rafe and safely pulled the infants out of his arms. Hissing he held them protectively as they wailed and Moonbeam ran to Markous's side. "How-?" "The trap door." he said smoothly and she nodded. "Rafe!" she snarrled. She shifted forms, her huge panted form larger then before, and her back held spikes and she unfurled her huge vampiric wings. "How dare you touch my children!" she snarrled. Something had snapped, her instinct to protect her babies. She snapped her jaws and clammed him by the shirt. "Excuse me..." she growled moving past the two vampires and dragged Rafe out of the house and threw him into the yard. "How dare you!" she snarrled her fur on end. She slammed a pass ontop of him and kept him from moving. "I don care how much you hate me and my family but we mean no harm! I just spent four hours in labor giving life to these beautiful babies, and yet you seem to want to kill them. Why?! Tell me why!! Why do you hate my family?!? What have we ever dome to hurt you!" she snarrled her claws extending to be menisingly close to his face.

The kick dealt to Rafe's side caused him to stumble, falling to one knee as the infants were saved. Just as he lifted his pale face to snarl, a large creature slammed into him. The alpha was a half-breed. This realization seemed to make the youth's features burn with more hatred than before.
Her question made him bark with laughter, his twisted smile slipping into a hiss of anger. "You made my brother love you," Rafe hissed, slashing at Moonbeam's features. "You brought my father to your family." Struggling, the vampire raked a clawed hand across the woman's jaw. "And you broke my family." Though he wasn't strong enough to shove the shifter off of him, Rafe pushed her back with enough force to slip partially away. "Our kinds weren't meant to blend!"
Senri darted forward to snap his jaws at the vampire, making Rafe start away from him. The action put him right back into Moonbeam's trap, her claws close to his features. Rafe fearlessly glared at the female, lashing out once again.

Moonbeam barely flinched as Rafe attacked her. She hissed at him and then smacked him lightly. "I did not make your brother love me. Nor did I make your father come with us. Open your eyes younge one!" she snapped and growled angerily. "He came of his own accord. Both came of their own accord. I merely opened my hearts to them... As I hav mine open to you..." she whispered and then stepped forward and put her nose to his chest for a second. "Your heart may have stopped beating but you still can love... And you are doing what you believe is noble and right..." she whispered and smiled at him her eyes glowing kindly. "But I sware to you if I have broken something I will fix it, and I won't force anyone to do anything... I am merely here to help your father understand why Devan loves it here... And why we all love him so much..." she whispered softly.

"No," Rafe breathed, turning his face away from hers. "I can't love - I won't. Not you and your kind." Shaking, the vampire bore his fangs. Moonbeam's blood dripped from her face, making the youth grit his teeth in frustration. It was many moments before he so much as took another breath. "I. Hate. You." The Asian's features melded back into a mask of cold anger, and he rested against the ground. "If you don't kill me, I will seek your family. I will hunt your children. I will murder your pack. I will destroy you."
((:XD Moonbeam's so good at convincing people to join them . . . I just . . . COULDN'T have Rafe do it too! I'm going to make him disappear. Perhaps he will be the perfect bad guy when the twins get older.))

How dare you endanger the babies' lives!" he growled and roared angerily. He ran from the pourch straight at Rafe chasing him down. "Fang!" Moonbeam called and watched as both Rafe and fang streaked away towards the gate. fang stopped at the gate and moonbeam arrived at his side. "Not another step." she commanded and he hissed and tensed waiting for Rafe to move.

Seeing Fang lunge toward him, the vampire chuckled and managed to stay just out of the were's reach until they reached the gate. Though his breathing hadn't changed from the exertion, Rafe dropped into a crouch. "You will forever live your life," he whispered menacingly, "fearing that I will return. Fearing for their safety." Standing tall once again, the noble-blooded youth met Moonbeam's gaze steadily. "You will have no peace."
Just as Devan and Nayin came into view, Rafe laughed. "You will know guilt and fear, knowing that your choices will bring them harm." He snarled. "You will run from this pack when you realise that our kinds don't join together!"
The Drake family merely bowed their heads, and the elder closed his eyes. "You are no son of mine." Nayin lifted his gaze to meet his former son's. "I have been blind to your faults because of my pride. I would ask you for forgiveness, but I know you don't have the heart to offer it."
Rafe spat in their direction, and turned his back to the entire group. "Then perhaps you should be the one trembling in fear. I will come for you. For all of you." He was gone a few seconds later, a small breeze following his wake.
-
Senri moved to rest a hand on Fang's shoulder, smiling grimly. His second hand moved to Moonbeam's, linking fingers with hers. "The children are fine," he said quietly, stroking the woman's hand with his thumb. When Devan moved to Moonbeam's other side, the two males greeted one another with a small nod.
"My father and I will make sure that Rafe left the estate. I don't want him doubling back." With that, the two vampires flashed after their former kin.

Moonbeam shook her head wishing things hadn't ended up this way. Her eyes widened in surprise looking at him and then closed her eyes a tear slipping down her cheek as she heard his words. "As am I." Senri reached out to take the twins, passing them to Moonbeam gently. "I don't know what I would have done if they'd been hurt." He couldn't imagine a life without them, even though they weren't even a day old. Once the woman pulled away, Senri pressed a kiss to her lips. "I need to go change," he whispered. The clothing he had been wearing was pretty much gone - save the long coat that Nayin had offered him, he wasn't wearing much of anything.
With a small smile, the werewolf let his single eye linger on the children before reaching out to stroke Moonbeam's face. "I'll be right back."
-
It was a few minutes after the battle had died down when a ghostly chill raced over the pack. A mournful howl broke through the gathering silence, and it was silenced suddenly with a yelp. Lana and Kira had been hunting together; they hadn't known abuot the danger. Rafe had seemingly reached them. . . .
Many minutes later, Devan and Nayin returned. The elder vampire was holding Lana, who sobbed loudly against his chest. Blood coated her front, and the ripped fang marks on her throat told that Rafe had stopped by for a meal.
"Rafe found them," Devan whispered, his red eyes filling with sorrow. "We didn't get there fast enough." At his words, Lana let another loud howl reach the night sky before gripping the front of Nayin's shirt. Wracked by her crying sobs, the amber-haired woman couldn't control herself.
The blood that covered Lana wasn't just her own . . . but Kira's.

Devan's gaze darkened, and he shook his head. "We were too late to help him." He glanced over to Lana, hissing quietly. "We barely saved Lana." Nayin moved to stand beside his son, whispering something faster than anyone could catch. With a nod, Devan cleared his throat. "We chased Rafe off. He won't be coming back any time soon." Not with the wounds he'd received.
As both vampires watched the pack, Devan felt his throat tighten. I'm sorry Lana. The coyote had grown attached to Kira - a family relationship had grown between them; they were brother and sister. His death had hit her harshly.
-
Lana released Nayin the instant Markous took her. Clutching him as best she could, the female tried to quiet herself. Her efforts were fruitless - Kira was gone. She'd just been with him, laughing as they hunted together. Her little brother - her friend - was murdered before her eyes.

For saving Lana..." she whispered and then walked to Lana. "Im so sorry Lana...." she whispered and hugged her. She poured her healing energy into her good friend and healed her gently. She swayed slightly as she stepped away and cupped Markous's cheek as his own tears fell. She then looked to Fang and he nodded. Taking off into the forest he found Kira's bloody body and wrapped it in a huge blanket and walked back to the estate. Walking past them all, tears falling down his cheeks he went to go to the servants to prepare the barrial... He was going to rest under his favorite tree he read under at night. Moonbeam then looked at Devan tears falling down her cheeks and then fell to her knees and cried. She hugged herself, hergaze having told him she blamed herself for everything. She sobbed hard as she was there, unable to keep her sadness back.

((T^T No! Don't cry! I'll cry too!))
Lana, upon being healed, only shook her head. When Moonbeam left to find Kira, the coyote tried to go after her . . . but couldn't force herself to. Instead, she crumpled against Markous with her tears falling anew. "I be right there," she said shakily. "I could be trying to help him. But I didn't! I not help him! Her face filled with the deepest sorrow as she fought against the torrent of tears that cascaded down her dark features. She didn't look up from Markous' chest until Moonbeam returned.
When she saw the blanketed form, Lana silently stood. She pressed her hand to her mouth as she kept herself quiet, and moved to touch the boy's head carefully. 'I'm sorry I didn't protect you, little brother.' A sorrowful howl left Lana's lips as she flung her head back, her cheeks suddenly wet with tears once again. 'I'm sorry I lost you.'
-
Devan glanced to his father, and the two of them bowed their heads silently. There was nothing they could do for a fallen vampire - there was nothing anyone could do. Once dead was a curse, twice dead was forever. Seeing Kira's covered form made Devan's red eyes fill with sadness. Part of their pack had fallen. Even if they hadn't gotten along well at first, the younger vampire had always tried to make a friend out of him. Being the only other undead in the pack, they'd suddenly come to be friends while hunting - it had become a tradition for every weekend. Just thinking that the kind-hearted boy had been murdered set his blood on fire.
Looking down to the child in his arms, Kiyomi, Devan held her closer. 'I will never stop hunting you, brother.' Rafe had done this, and he would pay.
-
Senri quickly moved after Moonbeam as the burial was prepared. When she finally fell to her knees, unable to bear the sorrow, he took her into his own arms. As they sat on the grass, listening to the world around them, Senri whispered comfort to his wife. "You did all you could," the werewolf murmured, his single eye following the movements of the servants as they prepared the body for final rest. "He would be glad to know that his sacrifice kept your children safe. Kira was brave and kind . . . he loved the children very much." It was true. He loved children in general - even Fang's twins were good friends of their "uncle." Many days had found them all lounging about with some icecream, playing cards or some sort of game that the youngsters would understand. Kira was patient and loving - toward every member of the pack.
Senri looked toward the sky, sighing sadly as he stroked Moonbeam's back. Kira had also been self-sacrificing. From the memories that Lana would later share, it was apparent that his death was the reason for Lana's survival. He'd given himself up for her - and that was his last wish. To keep his family safe.
"Don't blame yourself. No one can be in more than one place at once, love."

((it's so sad! *sniffles and clings to teddy bear*))
moonbeam clung to Senri and nodded as she laid in his arms. She looked up at the sky and knew Kira would be in peace... He had wanted this. He wanted the pack to live on and be safe for he had given himself to save their little Lana. Fang stood with Caprica holding the twins as they all watched the servants cover the body lovingly. All the pack, servants, everyone loved Kira. "Daddy.... I want uncle...." they both whimpered and Fang nearly broke down. He knew both Haruhe and Yuki loved to play with their uncle. "He's in the sky now.... He's smiling down at us right now..." Fang whispered soothingly and cradled his little girl close as the twins cried.
Markous held onto Lana tightly when she collapsed and kissed her temple. "I will protect you..." he whispered softly and cradled her, running a soothing hand threw her hair. "We won't ever forget him.... Our own little ones will love him just as much as we do... I promise..." he whispered and kissed the top of her head knowing he could only do so much.
Little Kiyomi slowly opened her eyes sensing the sadness in her uncle's arms and looked up at him with her beautiful red eyes. Her soft silver ears laying on her head flat with worry. Giving a small mew she reached up with her small hands and put one on each of Devan's cheeks. Her eyes slowly poured out glowing silver tears as she looked up at him and whimpered. She then rubbed her head against his jaw. Trying to tell him everything would be alright.

Nodding, Lana finally took a deep breath. Stemming her flow of tears, she bravely bit her lip and straightened. "He be brave. He be happy now." Swallowing the last of her tears, the were looked up to Markous. "We go rest now?" Glancing down to the blood on the front of her, she almost broke down into tears again.
-
Feeling the hands on his face, Devan met Kiyomi's gaze. The little girl seemed to know what he was feeling; trying to comfort him. The vampire hummed quietly when he felt her soft head rub against his jaw. Tucking her head under his chin, he smiled slightly. Sweet. As cute as she was in looks, this child had a good heart.
Her warmth against him made the dark-haired man take a deep breath, catching her scent. She was lovely, this small child. Devan's cool hand rested over Kiyomi, trying to stop her from crying. Instead of bawling, as an infant should have been, she was merely sniffling a bit. Her glowing tears made his heart reach out to her, and Devan found himself suddenly attached to Kiyomi. And then we can rest okay?" hr whispered reasuringly as he solemly walked into their room and intorhe connected bathroom and gently sat her on the closed lid of the toliet.
Kiyomi sniffled softly and blinked once at Devan. She perked her ears up just a little bit and looked at him with her shining big eyes seeming to calm down. Devan stiffened slightly, but then ended up smiling. This little girl really grought his spirits up, even if the moment was sober. Stepping toward the house, he glanced to Moonbeam and Senri. Since they were staying until Kira was completely settled, the vampire chose to take Kiyomi to the house. Nayin followed with Kei. It wasn't long before the two vampires sat in the living room in silence.
While Kiyomi remained in Devan's arms, Kei seemed to be restless. The little boy squirmed his way from Nayin's reach, rolling and crawling until he was in the middle cushion between the two men. It was there that he gurgled happily, seeming content with his placement. Apparently being against something cold made him uncomfortable. Maroon eyes full of happiness, the silver-haired youth reached for his toes and started chewing on just about everything in reach.
"This pack is very close." Nayin narrowed his red eyes, looking to the doorway.
"We're family," Devan replied, shifting his hold on Kiyomi to kiss her forehead. "It's always been like this." Even when Devan was still their enemy, Moonbeam had been kind. Frowning, the vampire reached over to play with Kei, his hand being chewed on vigorously. "I can't imagine anything being different."
-
Sniffing, Lana shook her. "I be thinking a nap sounds good." Lana's accented voice was puntuated by a few sniffs, but she seemed to be clearing up. She'd cry again later - when no one was really watching, most likely. Waiting for Markous to gather her clothes and a towel, she then ended up bathing quickly. The warm water reminded her of the blood that had poured down her front. It made her think of how Rafe tore Kira apart, killing him in the most painful way imaginable.
Shuddering, she pulled herself from the tub and dried off. Slipping into a loose pair of pants and a shirt, she moved to sit against Markous. Swallowing another round of tears, she muttered an apology for getting him wet with her hair. She needed to sleep. The faster she slept, the more chances she had of making it until morning without waking.

"Just as fast as the others," Devan agreed, watching as the twins wrestled about. His red eyes looked up to his father, but then both vampires smiled. "We'll be just fine, Moonbeam. I can take care of our needs." Patting the seat beside him, Devan scooted over. The action made him invade the playing children's space, and a mew of protest startled him.
Kei roughly squirmed away from his sister (even with her biting his ear) and attacked Devan's arm. Sharp little claws and teeth made the vampire raise an eyebrow, but the tiny scratches didn't draw much blood. "They will be very strong," he muttered, playfully fluffing Kei's hair before looking over Kiyomi. These two were suddenly his gravity - his world. A strange attachment suddenly forged between them - he was going to be there for them, just as Kira was there for the other twins.
Using his cold hand to act as the "enemy" for Kei to maul, Devan chuckled. "You have a wonderful thing growing here, Moonbeam. This pack is more than just a family." It is a sanctuary; a place for others to come and change.

Happieness for you was on the way." she whispered and putting Kei in one arm she cupped Devan's cheek softly before Kei nipped her fingers. She laughed and then gave a soft mew back to him. Nayin chuckled, but then leaned back against the couch to observe his son. It was odd to see the other vampire acting so tender toward a child. He'd never done it before.

"Would you like to hold him Naylin?" she asked softly and smiled at him as Kei sucked on her finger. Kiyomi mewed softly as she was set in Devan's lap and purred softly loving the feel of him stroking her ears. She rubbed her head against his hand lovingly as she glowed a little bit. Her silver ears flicked right back up as Devan's hand lifted from her head and she would look at him as if telling him to stroke her again. She would even mew if it took too long. And her tail kept lazily flicking back and forth the whole while.
((alright. ^^))

Occasionally pausing just to hear Kiyomi's mew of protest, Devan chuckled in amusement. Her glow interested him more than he thought it would, and the vampire watched as she grew more luminous. "She's like a little candle, isn't she?" Massaging behind Kiyomi's silver ears, he couldn't help but smile. She was so adorable! Captivated by the young toddler, Devan seemed content with focusing on only Kiyomi. It was as though his father wasn't even in the room. . . .

"I believe he might have a problem with my temperature," Nayin said. His silver hair was now tied out of his face, and the elder looked as though he'd just finished getting ready for the day. It was a trait that all vampires shared - immortal beauty. Looking to Kei, who seemed just fine and dandy, Nayin smiled. "If you offer him, I'll gladly hold him." He wasn't very intrusive - if anything, the elder was usually a recluse. He hadn't seen a child in . . . what felt like forever. It had been decades since he'd last seen such youth and innocense. "Kei, is it? And Kiyomi?" Thank goodness his memory was still sharp. He needed to learn everyone's names rather quickly if he was to work with this pack.
"Your children are beautiful, Moonbeam." Nayin spoke honestly. He didn't know what he would have done had his decision been different. Had he killed the alpha, this family would have fallen apart. It would have been his fault. Just seeing it changed his mind. This pack was now under his protection - the Drake family would join the were's in friendship. They would help to keep them safe for as long as they existed. Just by glancing over to Devan, Nayin knew what his son's answer would be. We are here for you now. We will fight for you whenever you need it.
