As Shifting Shadows (Accepting new peeps!!! :D)

The heart. Some say it's just a physical part of me. I suppose that they may be right; I lost my heart to someone I thought would keep it safe. Looking back now I find that I was a fool. Strange, how you don't see trouble until you have been through it already. You can guess at what will happen, but sometimes you're wrong.

I was most certainly wrong. Please, forgive me for my misconceptions and mistakes. They will be many; bear through your time with me, and you may find yourself happier than ever.

Howl is the mysterious owner of a large estate. Though the outside of the manor looks to be in decent shape the interior is beyond messy. With run-down rooms and piles of books everywhere, spider webs and strange messes left behind, and too many rooms to count it seems like an impossible task. Supposedly the occupants of the estate wish to have it cleaned up . . . and for the master to fall for some woman so he can at least have an heir.

There's a problem: Howl doesn't want to marry. Many have tried to tempt his heart, but he's made a reputation for himself: he eats their very souls. He tears out their hearts and sends them away; it is said that he is a cold, uncaring man with no mercy and no respect for the laws of man. Howl has no heart to tempt.
Is it true? Perhaps.

Is he cursed? Many would say so. Is he a murderer? It has been said that is true. Is he really a man, or does he truly resemble a beast of legend?

Not much is known about Howl - only rumors - yet the other people in his household (which includes only three others save Howl himself) seem desperate for the master to accept a wife.

Can you tempt his heart?

What happened in my life: My parents died in a car crash when I was too young to remember, so it's not something that haunts me, don't worry. I just broke the contract on my apartment to move across the country and in with my grandmother who is very ill. I just started working at a maid service here in town, it's only temporary I hope, but no one else seems to be hiring. Sigh, I'll do whatever I can to help pay my grandmother's bills though.

I Am This Old: 20
Did you look at me?: Female
What I see when I look in the mirror:
http://www.rezkast.com/files/photos/...159c94d8dL.jpg
What happened in my life: Nikia comes from an indian tribe. Her mother was part of the tribe, but her father was from Porthaven city. She had grown up out in the country with her mother at her fathers home there so that they would not miss being with the tribe like she was suppose to, but also know the life her father led. Soon, her parents had to decide the type of schooling she was to go through. Her father insisted on the girls school in the city, whereas her mother of course insisted on the tribal teachings. They came to an agreement on having her go to the girls school, while at home she was to learn her tribal traditions. They moved into the city so that she could walk to her ladies school while her mother searched for a job. Of course with her father's resources, Nikia's mother found a job very quickly. She was to be a seamstress. It wasnt that different from what she did for the tribe. When Nikia turned 16, she started to work in the shop with her mother. That is until she heard the rumors spreading about Howl.
I think of myself as: Nikia is a sort of straight forward person. Due to being part indian, she was raised with telling the truth as being high priority, though it didnt give her a lot of friends at the ladies school she went to. She can be a very relaxed person and if she wishes to draw the attention of a man, she will use the tricks she knows men will concede to (something she learned in her schooling). She had not found a man she really wants to try it on until she saw the flyers about Howl and took the rumors as just that: rumors.

The loud donging of the tall grandfather clock filled the silence of the tiny one story, one bedroom house. Anette frowned, covering her head with her pillow as she could have sworn her eyeballs were vibrating. Who on earth would ever want a clock like that? Six annoyingly pitched dongs later, Anette pulled the pillow from her face, slowly opening her hazel eyes. It was early morning, and the sun was beginning to peer through the lace curtains of her grandmothers tiny living room. Small rays of light were cast upon trinkets here and there, with particles of dust and danders floating through them that created a glittery effect through the air.

Anette stiffled a yawn as she stretched, arms wide, toes pointed and back arched before lazily sinking back into the uncomfortable plastic covered couch, a small and akward squeaking sound emanating from the couch cover under her as she shifted. Anette was on call for her new found house keeping job, they had told her, "When we get a new client, their all yours, but in the mean time business has slowed down too much. You can always tag along on a clean, but you won't be getting paid for it..." She sighed. Of course she had opted for staying home with her grandmother until summoned.

She sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. The smell of mothballs and old books filled the air. Anette remembered a time when her grandparent's home had smelled of baked goods and Christmas time. But that was a long time ago, when she was young and living with them in a bigger place on a better side of town. Since then, Anette had moved away for college, her grandfather had passed away forcing Nana to sell their home and downgrade, and now she had fallen ill.

Making her way to the kitchen, Anette set to work on breakfast. Nana would be waking soon for her morning medication which she would need to take on a full stomach. She flipped on the radio that had been preset by her grandmother to an oldies station, which she didn't mind, the songs took her back to happier childhood days. Anette pulled the milk, eggs, cheese, pancake mix and sausage from the refrigerator as she heated the skillet. Pulling her long auburn hair up into a messy bun she set to work, the smell of a delicious home cooked breakfast quickly overcoming the musky library and old laundromat smell.

~ Markhel ~

The tolling of the great clock struck nine before Markhel truly heard it. With a pained groan he rolled over, the sheets tangling about him as he tried to dip back into the realm of sleep. He'd almost succeeded. Upon rolling into a more comfortable position the teen found that the bed suddenly gave way to a drop.
There was a muffled thump as Markhel struck the ground. "Ow." With hair askew and body completely tied up in blankets the redhead groaned again. By the time he finally convinced his body to try and escape the tomb of sheets, the sound of the doorbell was echoing through the entire estate. The deep resonating sound made Markhel panic momentarily. Was I supposed to be somewhere today?! Shooting out of his room, the teen made it to the door within record time and paused to collect himself. He raked a hand through his reddish hair and gave his cream shirt a tug back into place. Hopefully he didn't look too disheveled. . . .
"Stand by," he managed to deepen his voice so that he sounded more authoritative. When the door opened the smells of the city's morning rushed into to greet him. Markhel met the gaze of the mailman with relief, and after a brief conversation he shut the door. Thank goodness it wasn't anyone important. He set the small box that had just arrived on the nearest shelf and promptly forgot its presence.

Markhel's golden gaze flickered about the main hall (which was larger than any hundred people would need) and observed the familiar dusty corners. Cobwebs hung in clumps all around the room while many scrolls, trinkets, books and leftover bits of food were piled on every surface. Somehow the large, spacious room seemed ten times smaller with all the clutter and oddly placed pictures and furniture. This was home - and it was quite comfortable.

Porthaven City

The city of Porthaven ((aren't I being creative? :XD Take the names from the movie!)) was bustling with activity. As the morning wore on it seemed as though things were only revving up for something much more important. Granted, there was a coming war that many people talked about . . . but everyone was much busier than usual that day.

On the announcement board in the main square a note suddenly appeared. Two notes, rather, but both addressed to the same home.

To all who feel inclined. . . .

The first notice was about housecleaning: the Pendragon estate was, apparently, in rather poor condition. Someone within the large mansion-like home was seeking someone willing to board at the estate until things were in proper repair once again.
The second notice was something entirely different: the groundskeeper was looking for some willing young ladies to come and entertain Howl Pendragon, the lord of the estate.
Both notices were pinned to the community announcement board . . . and one needed to visit the Pendragon estate to reply to their tasks.

A few people saw the richly emblazoned papers as a joke, but a few others were giggling and pointing. Rumors started up again.

"Did you know that Howl once ate a woman's heart?"
"No, that isn't true!"
"Don't worry . . . he only eats the hearts of pretty girls!"

"Have you ever seen Howl? I didn't think you had. No one's seen him for years!"

((Thank you for joining, my friend! :boogie: It's always fun to have you in an rp with me. :kiss:))

p o p p e t ♥ 10-08-2011 06:52 PM

Leaning forward to give her grandmother a kiss on the forehead, Anette picked up the nearly empty plates from the table. At least Nana was getting her appetite back. She cleared the dishes and placed them in the sink, sighing as she looked down at the dishwasher. It had apparently been broken for some time before she had moved in. Upon her arrival she had walked into the kitchen to stare a mountain of old dishes in the disgusting mold covered face. No wonder Nana had lost so much weight, she didn't have a dish to eat off or the energy to wash them. One of the many things Anette needed to work towards replacing.

Anette helped her grandmother into a fresh set of clothes and into her wheelchair. She never used it around the house, but Anette liked to take her on a walk everyday and they both liked to travel through the main square and into the park on the other side, which would prove to be far too long of a walk for Nana by foot. Locking the door behind them, Anette pushed her grandmother down the short ramp of the small front porch and to the sidewalk.

It was a beautiful day, the sun shining, a light breeze pulling at the trees shaking their large branches and allowing little bits of sun through the greenery, to dance over their faces. Anette listened as her grandmother told stories of her younger days, stories she had heard time and time again, but she smiled and laughed each time as if it were the first time she'd heard them. Up ahead the main square seemed to have a crowd around the bulletin board today. Crossing the street cautiously, Anette wheeled her grandmother to sit in front of the board as they pushed through people to see what the fuss was about.

A lost dog, a janitor needed at the local school, a maid needed at the Pendragon estate, Howl Pendragon looking for a woman... was that what people had been making a fuss about? Anette shrugged as she made a mental note of the address. She was in desperate need of work and this was right up her alley. As she rolled her grandmother away towards the park she thought she heard jokes of Pendragon himself having eaten someones heart. She rolled her eyes, people could be too gossipy.

~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~
It was almost eleven o'clock in the morning when Anette found herself standing in front of the doors of the huge estate. Her hair was pulled pack into a pony tail and she wore a pair of faded jeans and tennis shoes, topped with the white t-shirt she had been given from the maid service that said "Got Maid?" on the back in big annoying letters. She knew this job wouldn't be through the maid service, but she honestly didn't know what else to wear. She wasn't applying for an engineering job, and she wasn't here to woo anyone either.
Her hand nervously reached out to ring the doorbell as she remembered the words in the main square earlier that day. Had he really eaten someones heart? No, that was silly, wasn't it? She was wondering if he was going to be a mean and cold hearted man by the rumors flitting about, as she began to grow more and more nervous. Maybe she should just go back home and let the maid service find her a job. She was chewing on her bottom lip now, seconds away from turning to leave as she waited on the step.
"There's someone at the door, Markhel."
Startling at the sound of his master's voice, the teen looked up to see Howl leaning against the wooden railing of the second floor. The entryway was part of the main hall, which had duel staircases leading up to the landing that was visible from the front door. From that landing a wing broke off in either direction - one was for Howl while the other was for everyone else.
Markhel nodded and pushed his dark hair from his eyes. The book in his lap instantly found its place amongst the other bits of studying material all around the chair he'd been sitting in.
"Got it," Markhel made his way to the door with his baggy jeans making more noise than his footsteps. When he pulled the door open his features broke into a surprised "o." It was a rare occasion to receive a guest - especially a young woman. "Good day," he said, bowing slightly as he was taught to do when answering the Pendragon door. "Can I help you, miss?"
From his place near the banister Howl's blue gaze followed the conversation with little interest. The blond male merely kept his wrists crossed over the railing and his expression calm. Howl always looked like he was smiling slightly - he naturally had the features that made his lips curve up in contentment.
HarukiAi 10-09-2011 02:23 AM
The city was alive with people that morning as the sun began to rise above them warming there skins. So many people were about and bustling with excitement, yet no one stopped to look. Always downcast eyes, averted eyes, or mockery. Those few, who offered there money to the tinny girl dancing in the street, were pitying her or truly enjoyed it. Those that showed her their pity did not know that those sapphire eyes had seen it. She wanted nothing to do with their money. If she did not truly deserve it then it had no right to be in her pocket.
She tried to gain there attention with her gentle, yet hypnotizing dance. The soft jiggling of her bracelets and the flow of her pink her making a veil form around her as she twirled and leaped into the air. Only a few people would bother to glance her way and fewer would donate their money. It never stopped Lys from moving forward. She knew she had to move forward or die. There was no other option for her. She would not turn to lowly begging. While she begged she always returned the favor with a dance. Whether they enjoyed her entertainment it or not it was all she could pay with.
It was becoming obvious that there was no money to be earned out on the street that morning. None of the people roaming about would spare her a coin. She held her head high as she walked to collect her coins daring anyone to mock her now. "Here." She held out a few coins for a little boy, who looked to be starving. "Use it wisely." She said with a wink and a gently smile on her lips. While she was out money that had been freely offered to her she would not keep the money given out of pity. The boy would have a far greater use from it.
A crowd was forming in front in the main square of town when Lys stumbled into it. Her intention hadn't really been on going there, but the crowds of people had dragged her along. There was murmurs coming for the people gathering in front of the announcement board as she approached it. Some people stopped there talking as she approached them and some even parted. They glared down at her like she was a disease. She ignored them though like she always had.
"He eats their hearts." A women whispered.
"This is a joke." Another said.
"He's suppose to be handsome though, right?" Another boldly said.
Lys peered up at the messages reading them to herself. She could hear people beginning to talk about her.
"Will she go?"
"Is she mad?"
The pink haired girl turned to them and challenged them to say something. Her sapphire eyes blazed with fiery at their comments. She twirled around and walked away from the board, but not after she had gotten the address to the Estate.
'This is what I need if I wish to have a place to sleep.' She thought as she made her way through the town. 'Their talk is nonsense.'
She didn't let the appearance of the Estate get to her. Even though it was about the most extravagant thing she had ever laid her eyes upon. She cursed herself under her breath as she noticed she was trembling. Her bracelets were jiggling lightly with her shaking as she walked up to the Estate. She was shocked to see another there before her. She stepped up behind her looking into the doorway in front of her to take a glimpse at the boy standing there.
'This certainly cannot be the one who eats women's hearts?' She thought tilting her head a bit as she looked forward scanning the boys features as she waited to be addressed.
OOC: Sorry it took me so long to get in and if the post is rather long. I wanted to try to make up for lost time. If anything is wrong with it please tell me and I'll make adjustments as soon as possible.
Esmme 10-09-2011 06:41 AM
((Your post is amazing, deary! There's not a thing wrong with it. :hug: I will say we don't mind the delay. Hehe, I tend to disappear for unnamed times myself!))
Markhel's golden eyes widened as a second female approached the door before the first girl had a chance to answer. "Are you here . . . together?" the teen asked, looking confused. Sending a glance over his shoulder he caught gazes with Howl - who wasn't looking very pleased. When that moment passed, Markhel chuckled sheepishly at the two females before him. "Ladies, please come inside. Tell me what your business is here." The youth bowed at the waist, motioning for the two to enter the estate. Unfortunately, it was just as messy as ever.
"I'm afraid the master of the household is unavailable right now," the redhead explained, ignoring the fact that Howl himself still leaned against the banister above them in clear view. "I can help you just as well. What are your names?" Tossing a grin and wink to Lys, he awaited to hear why such beauties were anywhere near the Pendragon estate. Usually the rumors kept people away. . . .
p o p p e t ♥ 10-09-2011 02:39 PM
The door to the estate opened to reveal a man with auburn hair, much like hers, except it was white tipped. Interesting, she thought. His golden eyes appeared suprised to see her for a moment before he spoke to her. Didn't they put up those flyers, shouldn't he have been expecting people? Maybe no one had shown up, because the rumors were true... Shuddering for a moment at the thought, she opened her mouth to speak, but in that moment a younger girl appeared behind her. Anette stepped slightly out of the way as she glanced over her shoulder to the girl who appeared to be a dancer of some sort, clearly here for the ad after Howl Pendragon. But she didn't judge too harshly, she knew first hand it was hard to find a job in this town.
Stepping into the doorway when the man invited them inside she finally spoke, "I'm Anette Daudson," she said. Her eyes scanned the mess as her voice seemed to trail off in disbelife, "I saw your flyer in the main square for a house keeper..." She took a deep breath, this place was definitely cleanable, but she wasn't sure it wouldn't take her whole life. The estate was enormous, as was the mess. It could potentially a beautiful and spacious place, but it would need a lot of work. She sighed, she was definitely up for the challenge, it was just cleaning, not like she was giving bears baths at the zoo or anything.
Anette found herself wondering what all the books could possibly be for that were strewn about and in large piles. Who was this Pendragon and what was it he did? It wasn't any of her business anyway. She focused her attention back on the man in front of her, before another caught her eye, on the second floor, her hazel eyes glancing up at him. He was leaning over the railing, had blonde hair, and was fiercely attractive, was he Howl Pedragon himself? She pictured the man leaned over a woman's body gnawing on a heart, rabid dog style... no that couldn't be Howl Pendragon, he didn't look evil or scary or cannibalistic at all, at least not from down here.
Esmme 10-09-2011 05:34 PM
"Flyer for a housekeeper?" Markhel let a smirk of a smile spread over his face before shaking his head. "No, I don't believe we di-" He was interrupted by a dark, sultry voice from the sitting room to their left.
"Yes, Markhel, we did." A woman stepped into the room with her pale hair pulled back from her critical gaze. With her arms held behind her and her back straight, she looked like a school teacher from days of old. One could almost imagine a ruler in her hand as she sought a student to discipline.
"Anette Daudson, it's a pleasure to meet you. If you'll step right through here, please." With a plaster-pale hand the tall woman motioned toward the room she'd just come from. It seemed to be the only livable room in the house - though it was still messy, it wasn't a complete disaster.
Before leaving, she gave Lys a nod. "I will be with you in just a moment. Please, stay in the main hall until I return." Her gray eyes flickered to Markhel critically before turning back to Anette.
-
Howl met Anette's gaze as she looked up at him. With a small smile he stood straight, his blue eyes never leaving the girl's. When the groundskeeper called for Anette's attention, Howl Pendragon moved away from the balcony and out of sight. Apparently he wasn't going to welcome his guests.
HarukiAi 10-09-2011 07:16 PM
OCC: Okay good. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't done anything wrong. Oh, I disappear sometimes though I always try to tell people how long I'll be gone and why. It's usually just for work and school though.
Lys frowned a bit at the confusion that seemed to be occurring around her at the moment and the auburn haired girl in front of her. 'Is this some type of joke? Or are we really going to fall prey to this wizard?' She thought as she watched the boy wink at her. She felt her heart begin to race inside her chest as if it wanted to free itself. Though it was from fear that this could be the end of her. She followed the other girl in after she had taken care of the explanation of why the two had arrived to such a barren place.
As she stepped in her gaze swept over the mess that seemed to be pilling up. She began to huddle underneath her shawl to prevent her brightly colored silks from being damaged by the filth. Though she quickly stopped herself, 'I'll lose this job if I do that.' She thought. She noticed the other was looking up at something and began to follow her gaze when a women's voice drifted in and caught her attention. She turned to watch the pale women walk in to address them. Her gaze made Lys shrink back a bit. It wasn't that it was frightening at all it was...intense. 'Who are these people?' She thought as she nodded to her. She hadn't been really addressed so she saw not point in talking until she was formerly addressed by them.
Now that she was free to glance about while the other was being taken to her job Lys looked back at where Anette's gaze had been before. Nothing was there when she peered over to the staircase. She raised one of her delicate eyebrows, but shrugged ever so slightly. She was rather curios as to what had been there that had caught her attention. Had it been the wizard, Howl Pendragon? She shivered at the thought of that and her bracelets jingled softly with the movement. She would have reached up to touch her chest if there had not been another in the room with her. Instead she resisted the urge to reach up and caress the blooming flower on her chest. She turned about to look for something else to attract her attention. Something...Less horrifying than having her heart ripped out. Surely there was something among the mess.
"I'm sorry for not offering you a place to sit," Markhel turned his gaze to Lys as she looked over the cluttered room. "What did you say your name was?" She hadn't, yet, but it was his way of asking. The youth's shining eyes filled with interest as he watched the dancer's movements. She was obviously graceful; every action she went through was like watching a ripple in silk. Markhel's auburn hair was tossed from his eyes as he looked toward the comfy chair he'd been sitting in before the girls had arrived. It was covered in books and papers . . . but it was a relatively clean space once all the clutter was moved.
Busying himself with that task, Markhel finally cleared the cushioned chair for her. "If you want to sit, feel free." He sent another smile at her before sitting cross-legged amongst the small piles of books and tomes. "So Cali put up fliers? A pretty lady like you isn't here to clean, are you?" It seemed that Markhel knew nothing of what the fliers contained.
((:lol: That's alright! Expect me to be gone most weekends anyway . . . and sometimes work and life just catch up with everyone, so we all need breaks. Thank you for your posts! They're fun to read. :yes: So far, I love everyone in this rp with a passion. :glomp:))
The light blue eyed male narrowed as he descended the stairs, his eyes locked on the two females as he came down in a slow pace, seeing Howl looking down at them from the corner of his eye. He watched as one followed after Cali, he was clearly not happy at all. "MARKHEL! What is the meaning of this?" the black haired male said as he stepped off the stairs, his face harden, clearly not happy about there being females in the household. He glared slightly as towered over the two a bit, he creased his black gemmed sword as he waited for a reply, the only thing that marred this darkly dressed man's look was the symbol in the middle of his forehead that many have been curious about.
It was funny that he showed when Howl went out of sight, he glanced up at the balcony to make sure the man was out of sight, his hand going up to the black star pendent that was over his heart, the only thing that kept the black feather cape around him.
Esmme 10-09-2011 08:56 PM
"M-master!" Markhel stumbled to his feet and bowed a few times. The motion made him seem far younger than he looked, but if anyone knew who this dark individual was, they'd be cowering at the very sight of him. "I-I don't know, Sirrah. It was Cypher's doing, Sirrah." Sirrah. It was an old-fashioned way of saying "sir." Gold eyes flickered to the blade that the adult caressed, and the youth swallowed quietly as he stood straight once again.
"It isn't her fault, master." He had calmed down after the initial shock of seeing the dark-haired male, but the youth looked on edge. "I was wondering why they were here as well, Sirrah." Markhel took a step back so he was standing beside Lys and he pointed toward the sitting room where the glass doors were closed. "Cypher took the other lady in there to talk with her."
Kilia 10-09-2011 09:19 PM
The man's icy eyes quickly looked at the very nervous male, a slightly satisfied smile came onto his face at seeing the youth act in such away, his hand fell baqck down to his his sword as he started to crease the black gem that was on it once more. His eyes showed that he was thinking and analyzing everything that was going on and what he was being told by the auburn haired male.
"Cypher.....i should have known this was her doing." he said with clear anger in his voice, his once lose hand, tightened it's grip on the sword, which now had a then line of red going down it as he growled.
He did give Markhel a look that said to be sliently before he turnned his eyes onto the pink haired girl that was still with in the room they were in. "You! Why are you here?" he said to her, having pulled his sword out and pointted at her, it was easy to get him and howl confused with each other since they were never around at the same time and looked very simular, but only a slight few knew the truth of the two and they were dead from what Zane knew.
When the woman stepped into the room Anette's head turned to see a pale woman with gray eyes. Her appearance made Anette smile slightly, as she reminded her of a character she had imagined in one of her books, a woman of mystery, intellect, discipline and wizardry. But that was just a book of course. She glanced back up to the second floor railing, and the man was gone.
Anette followed the woman obediently, barely catching sight of the new feather-caped man descending the stairs before stepping into the new room. It was a little less messy than the area she had previously seen, but would still need some work. Now standing curiously in the room, she watched the woman and waited to be addressed.
Esmme 10-09-2011 09:39 PM
Cali Cypher closed the twin glass doors behind them and then looked back to Anette. The girl seemed curious, which was a far cry from some of their other trembling guests who expected to be eaten at any moment. "Do you have experience with large homes?" she asked, her tone dark and sultry. As she regarded Anette her hands were clasped tightly behind her back. Her gaze never wavered from the girl as she continued to question once she had her response.
"You know how to treat a noble's belongings?" Once again, she waited patiently for an answer before moving on to the next question. "Your payment will be enough to keep your livelihood in good condition, and you will be required to stay here on the Pendragon grounds." There was a small pause before Cypher's gaze seemed to soften ever so slightly.
"Do you not fear the rumors of this estate?"
-
Markhel straightened and glanced at Lys as she was addressed. The youth smiled slightly, though it was probably because he was nervous. Staying quiet, he tilted his head and listened to what the dancer had to say. He'd just been asking the question himself when he'd been interrupted.
p o p p e t ♥ 10-09-2011 10:13 PM
The woman began her interview asking if Anette had experience with large homes. Now Anette wasn't one to lie, ever, but she really needed this job to take care of her grandmother, and in all honesty, it was cleaning. She'd done it her whole life for her grandparents original home that was actually quite large, but a shack compared to this place. It wasn't brain surgery, anyone with common sense and... she thought of the mess this place was in... no life outside of cleaning, could do it. "Yes ma'am," she responded confidently.
The next question made her wonder about Howl, the noble. In any case it was a silly question. She would treat anyone's things with care and dignity, no matter who the person was or how valuable or invaluable their things were. Responding confidently again, "Yes ma'am."
Upon the talk of compensation, Anette began to feel almost nervous. She would need to stay there? But what about her grandmother? Assuming the payment would be enough, Anette relaxed. She was sure it would be more than enough to pay the rent on her grandmother's tiny place and in turn hire a caregiver who would be more qualified that she had been anyway. Plus, she surely wouldn't be expected to be here 24/7 and this wasn't too far from her Nana's place. She would be able to take her on walks and see her often, so there was no need to worry.
The woman looked almost curious as she asked her last question. Fear? Anette felt almost silly. Should she be afraid of a man who ate women's hearts? Probably. Was that something that was actually a likely thing to have happened? Probably not. Besides, she had only just moved here and probably hadn't heard all of the rumors. Anette spoke again with a smile, "No ma'am," she paused for a moment, the smile fading, "Should I?"
Lys eyed the auburn haired boy with a look of distrust. Though it wasn't something too personal it was just she hadn't trusted many people through the years. The rumors of this Estate didn't help either, but she knew she had to be somewhat pleasant with them. Surely they would pay her more than usual to risk her neck in a place such as this. "My name is Lys Vivette." Her delicate voice rang. Though her last name had been adopted by her in an attempt to seem like she had a family that she belonged to. "And your's is Markhel, right?" Her gazed found the chair that had been kindly offered to her, but she shook her head to decline. She didn't need to sit, but it was for the fact that she feared her silks might be damaged. Everything in this house seemed to be a threat to them at the moment.
Lys raised an eyebrow at the boys obvious change in manner so suddenly as a voice boomed above them. She hadn't thought she had done something wrong so quickly, but this was a foreign world to her and Anette. She looked up to the place her eyes had been just so recently to discover a man was now there. 'Is this what Anette had seen?...Is this Howl Pendragon?' She thought as she looked the blacked haired man over. She stared into his light blue eyes as he went on about her presence there. 'This could hardly be Howl....Surely a wizard as great as the rumors presumed him to be would know what went on in his home.'
Lys was shocked to hear the boy beside her trying to defend her from the looming presence on the stairs. Few people would have even offered her their help. So, why had he? Though her attempted she knew he was not going to be able to help her too much from this man's anger. Her thoughts were proven to be correct when she found her self peering up a sword to meet the man's blue eyed gaze. Her own gaze was unwavering as she her sapphire eyes looked up at him. It wasn't the first time a sword had been pointed at her nor did she think the last. "I am here to entertain the Master of this home, Howl Pendragon, Sirrah." She said confidently as she curtsied to the man before her. Her eyes never left his. She would not back down to someone that only wished to frighten her into submission.
OCC: Okay, That's fine. D: I go to take a nap and BAM! XD Oh, well it's enjoyable to read sometimes. Haha <3
Kilia 10-11-2011 01:37 AM
He was not surprised when she tried to stand up to him, what did though was the lack of fear in her face, afterall he was the reason that the rumors were around. What ticked him off was her meeting his steel gaze and saying that she was there to entertain Howl, he gripped his sword tighter as he growled some, his eyes narrowed even more as you could hear a slow drip of something dropping onto the floor, if you looked at it, you would think it was just ome dark liquid but if you looked at his hand gripping the sword, you could see that he was bleeding and ignoring the pain he was feeling.
"I should cut your heart out here and now." he said to her in a very bone-chilling low voice before he stabbed his sword through the seat of the cleared chair, leaving it there as he turnned in a flurry of black feqathers, making his way to the double glass doors. "Cali Cypher!" he yelled in a very angry voice as his light blue eyes narrowed at her, growling as he motioned the girl to leave the room, closing the doors behind her. "Why are you bringing women into this house hold?" he said to her in a dark voice once they were alone, clearly controlling his anger as he kept his voice low, not wantting others to hear, after all they have no need to know what was going on with in the room.
HarukiAi 10-11-2011 02:03 AM
The sound of a light dripping made its way into Lys’s ears as she looked up at the man looming above her still. His sword was not intimidating and she would not allow him to be either. While she may have out done it a bit by being so bold to one of her future employers she was far too proud to allow him to do such things to her. Her gaze drifted to the source of the dripping sound and her sapphire eyes narrowed at the sight of the blood. ‘Is he truly that upset over my presence to cause harm to himself?’ She thought as she continued to peer up at him. Her heart skipped a beat at the mention of him cutting out her heart. ‘Calm yourself, do not let them strike fear into you.’ She reassured herself smothering the fear.
She watched in a bit of amusement as he stabbed his sword into the chair that had been offered to her just so recently. ‘I suppose it was a good thing I did not sit down.’ She watched him go off in the direction the women had just so recently taken Anette through. She wasn’t too surprised when he forced her out of the room. “He was an absolutely pleasant person.” She said lightly under her breath. She turned to look at Markhel now that they didn’t have the other among them. She gave him a questioning look as she walked over to grab the sword lodged into the seat. “Will you give me hand? I doubt your Master would like a sword in his chair.” She said with a light smile playing upon her lips.
Esmme 10-13-2011 05:49 PM
Watching the dark man walk away, Markhel seemed to perk up once again. The auburn-haired youth laughed when Lys moved to grab the sword. "He can be a bit impulsive sometimes," he said, golden eyes filling with a smile. He grabbed the part of the hilt that Lys didn't have and stood up on the chair to get better leverage. "On the count of three." It was a good twelve beats later when the blade finally gave. Markhel almost fell backward, but he snagged the chair to steady himself.
"Thank you," he said, flashing a smooth smile before stepping down onto the floor once again. With Zane's sword in hand, he was careful not to get too close to his guest. Setting the blade on the nearest surface (and precariously resting it over some objects) Markhel cleared his throat. "I apologize for how the master reacted. I wasn't sure he would come downstairs."
-
"Cali Cypher!"
The pale woman slowly lifted her head, as though the sudden outburst hadn't so much as surprised her. "Yes?" When Anette was pushed from the room, she inclined her head and watched Zane with a bored expression. "They are here because I called for them." Cypher slowly unclasped her hands from behind her back and offered her hands for him to inspect. "You hurt yourself."
Her cold fingers moved on to pull the man's hand into her own. The warm blood swiftly coated a few of her fingers as she inspected the wound. "Sometimes we go through a bit of pain for the betterment of everyone around us. You do know that, don't you?" Her voice was low and dark, as it always was. Cali's features were cold and blank, as they always were. And, of course, her posture was easily correct, as it always had been.
p o p p e t ♥ 10-13-2011 06:59 PM
Jumping slightly as the doors flung open, Anette turned in time to see the feather caped man enter the room, looking angry as he yelled at Cali. A chill ran through her when his eyes met hers, and she looked back to Cali, only for a moment before excusing herself and leaving the two to talk, or fight, she wasn't sure what was about to happen. The doors closed hastily behind her as she looked around the room, seeing the dancer and young man who'd answered the door, pulling at a sword that had been stuck through a chair. A curious sight.
She stayed at the doors awaiting Ms. Cypher, who she had yet to finish her interview with. Who was that man? she wondered. By the rumors she had heard, he was Howl Pendragon, but then who was the attractive blue eyed man she'd seen at the railing before? She shrugged it off, she would learn them all in time, should she get this job.
The sword in the chair came free, as Anette watched the male place it carefully atop a heap of mess. She shook her head, there was so much to be done. The feather caped man's voice was still angry, and loud. She wasn't eavesdropping, but from her position at the door it was hard not to hear him as his voice so visiously spoke. Apparently he had not known of the flyers. Cali was responding now, but her voice was lower and quieter than the feather caped man's.
Anette moved from her spot at the doors to give them more privacy, feeling akward that she could hear them speaking. She smiled at the dancer and young man then looked down, spotting a drop of blood in the floor, and another. They seemed to lead in a small trail to the room she had come from. Strange, she thought. He must have been hurt, maybe that's why he was so angry. Another mental shrug, and Anette was leaning back on her heels, smiling at the dancer and male again as she raised her eyebrows as if to say, 'Soooo..... what's up with that guy?'
Esmme 10-13-2011 07:40 PM
Seeing Anette made Markhel smile once again. This time he addressed the both of them. "My name is Markhel. I am apprenticed to Master Howl." Offering a hand first to Lys and then to Anette, the youth couldn't help but smile wider. "As I was telling this lady here, I apologize for the master's behavior. He can be impulsive sometimes." More like all the time. Taking a deep breath, the teen cleared his throat.
"So you came because Cypher put up fliers?" His golden eyes widened with amazement. "What parts of the city are you two from?"
Esmme 10-14-2011 01:16 AM
((*coughs* I apologize! I changed my post in which Cali and Zane speak. Let's rephrase what happened: she never mentioned Zane's name, so there's still quite the bit of confusion surrounding his presence. :yes:
So: Anette didn't hear the name she thought she heard. Hahaha!!!))
