Jack smiled. "I hope so...." She looked a but nervous. "I've never prayed before, i never thought God would listen to someone like me, no one else ever did...." She took a long drag from her cigarette, and looked out into the forest to her right.

erik shrugged and looked up.
"well, you may not get anything out of it... but, now's as good a time as any- hell, it's better, to start praying."
he nodded and smirked lightly at her.

Jack rolled her eyes and smirked back. "I feel a little dumb talking to something, or someone that I can't see..."

erik rose his hand and covered her eyes with it, chuckling.
"feel weird talking to me?"
lowering his hand.
"just think of it like that."

Jack laughed. "But I KNOW you're there, there is no way to be CERTAIN God is there...."

erik shrugged.
"that's the point. you don't KNOW i'm here. that could have been a fake hand. i could have ran off at any point and left you talking. you didn't know i was there, you had faith that i was."
giving a stern nod, then smiling.

Jack rolled her eyes sarcastically, and lit another cigarette. "Ok, fine." She stared off into the forest, her lips moving slowly as she mumbled under her breath.

erik kept looking forward, walking towards the town still, lightly smirking to himself, deciding not to look back.

Jack glanced over to him, then hurried quietly up behind him, kicking him solidly in the back of the leg. "Don't you laugh at me!" She glared, mostly good-naturedly, at him, and took a deep drag off her cigarette.

erik chuckled and pulled out a cigarillo, lighting it.
"oi oi, i wasn't laughing at you."
he took a long puff, trying to blow a few rings, failing because of the wind.
"i was laughing WITH you."
nodding.

Jack smirked. "I wasn't laughing asshole." She laughed, and flicked her cigarette ashes on him before taking another drag.

erik chuckled.
"oh? well, then that musta been the zombies. i'm sorry."
nodding and taking another puff with a straight face.

Jack sighed. "That was probably it...." She dug a water bottle out of one of her bags, and took a long drink before offering it to Erik. "Thirsty?" She flicked back her hair yet again, as the wind pushed it right back into her eyes.

erik nodded and took the bottle, taking a quick drink and passing it back.
"thanks."
putting his hands behind his head, holding the cigarillo in his mouth.
"so, what brought you to this little town anyway?"
looking to jack.

Jack sighed. "I lived in the city, up until a few weeks ago. My parents decided I was getting into too much trouble, and sent me here. I had relatives in town, but they really didn't like me..." Jack smirked. "They'd never admit it, but another part was how much they hated my boyfriend in the city. They couldn't deal with me being with him, so they sent me packing."

erik chuckled, then nodded.
"ah."
he gave a sigh, thinking.
"he may still be alive..."
nodding.
"did he work?"

Jack shrugged. "Odd jobs, he was never very good at holding a job, dropped out of high school when he was almost done with his senior year." She sighed. "What difference does that make?"

erik shrugged.
"that might make him more likely to have survived."
nodding.
"even if there is no hope at all, it's always good to keep a little."
smirking and looking to the town.
"almost there."

Jack nodded. "I suppose, but I'm betting he's dead, I've already come to terms with that." She looked towards town. "Yup, almost there. So you wanna just hit the grocery store? We can get what we can there, and get to the roof well before dark, then we have time to setup lights."

erik nodded and thought.
"well, the question is, where are we gonna get those lights?"
tilting his head.
"i mean, we could do fire... but we'd need something to burn. this oil wouldn't last too long on its own..."

Jack gestured to one of her bags. "We have the generator. It will run on gas for a little while, then we have some batteries for it.... I don't know beyond that. We have flashlights, if that will really do any good. Umm... I still think plain fire is a little too dangerous."

erik nodded.
"we'd need a trash can or metal barrel..."
he thought for a second.
"we could probably jack some lights from the store, somehow... they're bound to have some in the back in case one breaks down."
nodding.

Jack shook her head. "Even in trashcans or metal containers, the zombies could, and probably would knock them over. I can just see us getting all set up on the roof, then getting burned up, or eaten because we had to evacuate when the building caught fire." She rubbed her head. "They would probably have at least SOME lights in the back though, like you said. I think that is worth a shot."

erik shrugged.
"hey, if they manage to get on the roof where the fire is, burning is the least of our worries."
he gave a chuckle and nodded.
"but there should be a power source there, so we don't have to worry about using up all our generator to stay alive tonight. just plug the lights into the store."
nodding.

Jack nodded, we can set up stuff to burn, just won't use it till we HAVE to." She smiled, watching to town grow even closer. "I hope all the electricity is on....."
