Out of the Darkness: A Post-Apocalyptic Roleplay (Post Alien Invasion)
See the OOC Thread for info.
Setting
Around one hundred years ago, Earth was invaded by an alien race which call themselves the Masters. The invasion was swift, and although the earthlings put up a fight, they were no match for the the Masters.
Now the human race struggles to survive. The Masters treat them as slaves and have taken away all technology from them to make them truly inferior. A hidden motive for this is that the Masters may fear a rebellion.
Without the use of technology, the earthlings have fallen into another Dark Age. They live mostly in small communities, although there are some that live in the glorious cities as slaves for the Masters. They are reluctant to trust strangers and they live in fear for their lives.
Plot
There is a new resistance group that calls itself the "Freedom Fighters." They have gotten their hands on some of the lost technology, most of it being what we consider today to be outdated technology (Windows 3.1 computers, big cell phones, fax machines, etc.) and they have been working underground to rally the earthlings together again. Their base is located mostly underground and in the middle of the woods to avoid detection.
They are also searching for the "Chosen Ones." Prophesy has sprung up over the past 100 years that three Chosen Ones will arise and free the earthlings from the alien opression.
Rumors of this group of rebels has reached the ears of the Masters. However, they have not been able to locate them as of yet.
Also, among the Masters there are some who are helping the earthlings for many different personal reasons. The earthlings call these Masters "Friendlies."
A Clarification on Technology:
*The alien invaders have all kinds of awesome technology at their disposal. It was because of their superiority that they were able to defeat the humans. Make sense? Think of Star Trek and Star Wars if that helps in any way.
*The average human has electric lights... and that's about it.
*The resistance, "Freedom Fighters" have a bit more technology, as listed above, it's like from the late 80s, early 90s, and most if it is falling apart because of how old it is. They have to find it in garbage landfills and such.
*Most humans do not know much about technology at all, even the basics, because it's been 100 years since they were allowed to use it. They've pretty much forgotten how, if that makes sense, because it's forbidden to them. Like said before, it's like a new Dark Ages for the humans. The humans that live in the cities as slaves may know a little about technology from seeing the aliens use it, but it's not like they're allowed to touch it and figure out how it works either.

Rules
*No god-modding. Even the Chosen Ones have weaknesses!
*No killing or controlling another person's character without their permission.
*Romance and Violence is ok, but let's keep it pg-13 (follow Mene's TOS)
*If you're going to leave for more than two days, let us know.
*If you're leaving permanently, let me know!
*Literacy:
1. I understand that sometimes a one sentence post is just as good as a paragraph long one depending on the situation. A good rule of thumb is this: In each post, make sure that you are first reacting to something and then giving others something to react to.
2. Please write in full sentences as if you are writing a story. In other words, write in third person and use "quotation marks" when your character is speaking. Do not use *these* for actions.
3. Put all OOC comments either in the OOC thread or in (parentheses).
4. Absolutely NO CHAT SPEAK!
*If you want to join, PM me your profile. You may have as many characters as you want. Here is the form:

Earthlings: Just your average human.
Masters: These are the aliens, hailing from a far off galaxy. They are tall and have pale, almost white skin, but other than that they appear to be human. They also have access to all kinds of cool futuristic technology.
Chosen Ones: These three have special powers, each one a little unique. As far as the tales go, the powers may have come from the aftermath of the war (nuclear effects) or some sort of great lost technology.

Username: Morwyn
Name: Edward
Race: Human
Age: 28
Appearance: Edward
Personality: Edward can be sometimes a little OCD about things, but he is generally an easygoing guy. He prefers to go by "Edward" or "Ward" and hates it when people call him "Ed" or "Eddy." He is also incredibly curious, sometimes to the point of poking his nose into things he shouldn't or asking questions that may be inappropriate.
Bio: Edward grew up in a little town that was near an old dump that was as big as a hill. His insatiable curiousity got the better of him and he began spending whole days at the dump looking through things, especially looking for lost technology. Over the years he taught himself how to do basic things like hook up and use computers through much trial and error, accidentally breaking several pieces of technology to try to figure out how they were used. He now is part of the resistance group and works as their main tech guy.

Username: YugoChik
Name: Destiny Hatake
Race: Human
Age:26/27
Appearance: About 5'11, she is taller than most men. She is a little on the chubby side, but her body very curvy, most say "the body of a goddess," though she doesn't think so. Her hair is made of long, brunette curls, her eyes a brilliant ice blue. Her skin in naturally tanned from working so much. She is never pleased with her looks, no matter how gorgeous you tell her.
Personality: Warm and friendly. She is often seen as motherly. One side of her is her rebellious side, and she runs her mouth alot, acting before she thinks. She is very stubborn, on alot of subjects. She doesn't think about her comments, they just come out.
Bio: Her parents were slaves, but then got worked so hard, they died. They died when she was 16, the "Master" whipped them to death. Since then, she has felt utter hatred for the aliens. She can't trust any of them, she won't, she refuses to.

Username: Morwyn
Name: Cade
Race: Human
Age: 29
Appearance: Cade
Personality: Cade is hardened because he's had a harder life than Edward, despite that they were brothers. He has a hard time expressing emotions, but occasionally they do show. He feels overprotective when it comes to others, especially his family.
Bio: Cade is Edward's older brother, and he left home at around 16 years old, deciding that he needed to learn how to fight so that he could protect his family from the aliens. He's had a lot of rough experiences through being on his own and through his training. He is an excellent fighter, as he has become very strong and quick, and he has also learned to become a very good shot with a handgun that he has on him at all times. He preferrs to not use the gun, however, because he knows that his supply of ammo is limited.

She was taught how to fight by her elder brother, but one day he was killed by the Masters for being rebellious. After this she decided to seek out the Resistance to remove the Masters from Earth. She is now one of the tactical planners and fighters of the Freedom Fighters.

Chosen Ones
Quote:
Username: Morwyn
Name: Elysse Stone
Race: Chosen One (formerly human)
Age: 96
Appearance: Elysse
Personality: Elysse is very quiet and shy. She distrusts people and has basically sworn off people in general and chosen a life as a hermit. She has a rather dim outlook on life. She feels rather hopeless and useless. She wishes that there was some purpose for her life, but she doubts it.
Bio: Elysse was born not long before the invasion. During the short war that was fought to keep the aliens away, many towns were destroyed and disease spread. A strange disease hit Elysse's town, and killed most of her family, except her and her father. When she eventually caught the disease, her father could not bear to lose her as well so he did something drastic. He was a nanotechnition, a great scientist, and to save her he injected her with his latest, and untested, project, nanomachines meant to be used in the human body. The nanomachines totally eradicated the disease from her body, saving her life and preserving her as she was at the time of injection: 17, weak, and sickly pale. They also give her a strange new ability, and unfortunately at injection she accidentally killed her father with this ability. Since that time she has wandered around from town to town trying to find a new place to call home. However, people are not so trusting of outsiders, especially ones as strange as her, many mistaking her for an alien because of her sickly skin. Elysse also accidentally killed many people before she got her ability under control.
She gave up on people, declaring them all to be untrusting, unforgiving, and judgemental. She figured she never would find a place to belong, so she has taken to the woods, living in the middle of nowhere and avoiding towns for the past 40 years or so.
Her nanomachines work like little solar panels, so she lives off of light. If she was in complete darkness, she would pass out, and if she was in it for too long she might die. They are very insistant on preserving her, which manifests itself in two different ways. The first is that they work like a quick heal ability. The second is kind of annoying, it basically means that she can't eat anything. Her nanomachines believe that it is foreign and therefore doesn't belong in her body, so eating makes her sick. She can drink small amounts of water, though.
They also give her a weapon like ability. She can form balls of intense light that she can throw, but it makes her kind of tired since it uses the energy she lives on.
Whenever she is injured or uses her ability, her nanomachines work extra hard to absorb light, so it looks like a shadow forms around her.

Personality: Tends to watch first, act second. She is usually quiet, but is not afraid to make the first move. Very kind, very welcoming, she likes to make people feel comfortable.
Bio: Lilium does not know who her parents were. When she was about two years old, she was found wandering the wastelands near a community. She was raised by the community, her very presence making people's day brighter. She still lives in the community. She now has her own shack that she can call her own, and she does whatever odd jobs the community needs her to do.

[Username: Cows Go Moo
Name: Farrell
Race: Chosen One (Was Human)
Age: 25
Appearance: [Farrell]
Personality: Farrell always loves a good bet, be it just who wins a race or whether or not he will get out alive. This is because he knows that his life expectancy is a bit short with the alien invasion and figured that he might as well have fun. He tends to have a neutral outlook on life, thinking that there's no real positive or negative way to look on things. When meeting new people he isn't relaxed, but rather more analyzing of their movements and their motives. When he gets more relaxed he can be friendly and take things in stride. If you cross him though, he responds in spite. He also hates losing to other people and this is his weakness as he sometimes falls for taunts.
Bio: Farrell has lived an interesting life, being the "son" to two former nuclear scientists. Obviously they were old, maybe around eighty years of age, yet they had the mental capacity of one at least ten to twenty years younger. In his short years of living he had been trying to help them restore what was there before the invasion. Of course they worked underground, not having the technology that they once did.
On one particular day when Farrell was scavenging for parts he came upon a vat of nuclear waste. He knew its harmful effects, yet also knew that it could be useful to the research. He was surprised that the aliens hadn't taken that away yet, but then again it was only toxic. It was heavy for him and as he hauled it he slipped, making the waste spill over him. It sizzled for a moment, making him feel a burning sensation, but then suddenly stopped.
At the moment he regretted trying to retrieve that waste, knowing then that he could contract a deadly disease. He eventually washed himself and his clothes out of it, but the powers didn't wash off. He discovered those powers accidentally, having fused his hand to a table. He naturally freaked out at first, but over the years honed his skills. Unfortunately his guardians weren't able to see him in his advanced form as they died of old age when he was fifteen. At that age he found himself with no home and nowhere to go so he wandered around, trying not to fuse himself with anything and earning money through gambling.

Masters
Quote:
Username: Cheshire Cat
Name: Gilles Gerard
Race: Master
Age: 56 earth time
Appearance: Tall and gangly, he hides his slight figure with layers of fine fabrics of dark colour. He covers his eyes with ubiquitous shaded goggles, through with he has access to the Master Database. He wears a beret with a carefully disheveled locks of hair sticking out. His look is sterile to say the least.
Personality: Ruthlessly Sadistic.
Bio: Born into his position of power, Gilles was taught to look down upon the natives as nothing more than slaves. It wasn't until his father was killed in an ambush that Gilles saw his parents' fatal mistake. The natives may have been less developed as the Masters, but they sure as hell did outnumber them. Gilles no longer needed any lessons on hatred, so his mother taught him politics, the instructors taught him warfare and the natives, unknowinly, taught him ingenuity.

Friendlies
Quote:
Username: Elektra_x3
Name: Iaa Taurora((Pronounced EE-UH, TUH-ROAR-UH))
Race: Alien (Friendly)
Age: On Earth she would be about the same age as a 21 year old.
Appearance: Iaa
Personality: To her father, Iaa is just as strong, ruthless and cold as him. But to the Freedom Fighters, she is warm and sweet. But to either of the two, she's occasionally quiet and sad because of what she's doing.
Bio: Iaa first decided to become a Friendly when she went with her father to help with the invasion. She used to think that the human race was hopeless and would give up without a fight. But she was proved wrong when she saw that they did go into battle, knowing that they didn’t stand a chance. In the end she held just the smallest amount of respect for them. One day, she saw the face of one of the smaller Earthlings. It horrified her how scared it was. She grew softer, but there was no stopping the ruthlessness of her father. After witnessing so much killing, Iaa finally had enough. Without telling anyone, she went to go to the ones called The Freedom Fighters. She proved to them that her heart was true and she explained to how she couldn’t stand up to her father, but only help them behind his back. She knows she's doing the right thing, but she can't help but feel like there was a better way to settle this.

Username: Cows Go Moo
Name: Jariath Dios
Race: Alien(Friendlies)
Age: Earthwise, he would look to be about nineteen
Appearance: [Jariath]
Personality: Jariath doesn't consider himself "evil" in any way, rather just has a mean streak and has a mischievous side. He usually has an ulterior motive than just what he says and has no qualms about lying. Usually he is somewhat talkative and social, but to humans he can be annoying to them. The alien can also be very argumentative, driving his point home whether or not he happens to be right. He prefers to negotiate rather than fight, but if he has to he has no problem hacking off a limb or two.
Bio: Jariath grew up on his home planet, living there for twelve Earth years before he came down to Earth, living in luxury with human slaves at his foot. His parents were usually concerned with him though since he was always away from the house and never really had any motive to help with the invasion and sometimes was even found toying with humans in a nonlethal way. His parents didn't approve of his "negotiations", already wondering about why he was always away. What really was happening was that he had joined the Freedom Fighters and was actively helping them. Still though, it seemed Jariath was sometimes away from both sides.

(I know... be patient and use the OOC thread until we get started, ok? Thanks. I am glad you're interested, though.)
(A few last things: Use the OOC thread for any major discussion. I will keep up on that, so, for example, if you miss something, ask in the OOC thread and I'll help you asap. Secondly, let's not have the resistance find the chosen ones right away, it'll make it more fun that way. If they are found quickly anyway, there shouldn't be any reason that they are recognized as being chosen ones right away either, since they look relatively normal I guess. Oh, and last of all, just for clarification, the base for the resistance will be in the middle of the woods and mostly underground to avoid detection, if that helps.)
(ok, let's get started! Oh, and if you want a second character as well, just let me know and try to differentiate between them with color)
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Elysse woke up with a start from a nightmare. "Mama..." she whispered as a few tears ran down her cheek. She wiped her tears and looked around the forest quickly for any sign of anyone else, and seeing no one, she quietly slid down from her seat in a tree. Her feet landed lightly on the ground and she began to walk, with no destination in mind, as always.
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Two feet could be seen sticking out from under a table in the resistance base. On top of the table were some very old looking computers, like from the late 80s or early 90s. Suddenly some sparks flew and a bit of cursing could be heard.
"Dang it!" a man's voice could be heard from under the table. "That is not what I wanted it to do!"
Out from under the table came the man belonging to the feet. He looked a bit frazzled.
A voice came in from the next room, "Hey, you ok in there, Ed?"
The man's face reddened. "Yeah... just some sparks and I may have fried one of the monitors," he replied. "And I told you not to call me Ed! It's Edward, got it?"

Destiny giggled, hearing Edward. She walked in fromt he next room "Awwww is Eddy mad?" she taunted. She giggled, squatting down to his level, and smiled at him. "Fried another one eh? You know, there's not unlimited ones here. Look at this, you put the two wrong wires together" she said. She sighed, then got up, turning around, putting a hand on her hip "monitors arent that hard. If you really want me to, I could find a way to make it wireless" she said.

Iaa was lying down on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She was dreadfully bored, that was until a man came into her room. Iaa got up right away and yelled at him, "You imbecile! You should know better than to enter my room unannounced like that! If you know what's good for you you'd knock next time," she scowled, squaring up to the man and poking him in the chest. "My apologies, Iaa," he said, bowing. "But your father wanted me to inform you about the new arrivals coming this afternoon."
Iaa's face lit up. New arrivals? she thought, hopefully. Maybe her mother would finally come and visit. But she went back to her angry expression and glared at the man. "Alright. Well, you informed me. Be off!" she barked. She sighed once he finally left, grabbing an item that looked very similar to a remote and pressed a red button. Just like that, she appeared in front of Edward and Destiny, members of the Freedom Fighters. "Hello everyone," she greeted with a sweet smile.

(@YugoChik: the humans have been without technology for about 100 years, so it's not like Destiny would grow up knowing how to do such things. Edward has only been able to figure things out through trial and error in secret due to technology being forbidden for the humans.)
"Aw, come on, Destiny, not you too..." Edward protested. "If you can't call me Edward, at least call me Ward, none of that Eddy nonsense, you know I hate that. Since when were you such a technology expert? For your information, I was not trying to hook up the monitor! And we do not have the supplies needed to make it wireless... you know such advanced things are so hard to come by when all we have access to are the things we can find in the old junkyards, and if they catch us there, well... we're pretty much screwed, ok?"
He sighed and ruffled his sandy brown hair. "Sorry, Destiny, I didn't mean to snap at you."
He jumped a bit when Iaa popped in, it always freaked him out a bit and he was always a bit worried that they'd track her one of these times. "Hey, Miss Iaa.." he replied. "What's up?"

Destiny frowned, she still didn't trust any of the aliens. She looked away scowling, then went into the next room. If she was still there, she prolly wouldve lost it and slapped her or something. Edward's words slapped her. She walked out, not saying another word. She went outside, then in the junkyards. She sat down on an old car, sighing. She hoped someone would find her and possibly killed her, not that it mattered to anyone.

Iaa frowned as Destiny walked away into the next room. Just because she was an alien, doesn't mean she had no feelings. When the Freedom Fighters were debating one whether or not they should let an alien into their group, she noticed that Destiny was one of the more hesitant people. Iaa just wished she would give her a chance.
She sat down near Edward and said, "New arrivals are coming this afternoon." She bit her lip and brushed her hair with her fingers, obviously still thinking about her mother. Her mother was against this whole thing, and thought Iaa was a monster for going along with it. But if she ever met her again, she would introduce her to the Freedom Fighters and hopefully realize that she's not a monster. She coughed and asked, "How about you, Edward? Any luck with the computer?"

"Hm, I'll let the captian know," Edward said. "I take it they're civilians, though... at this point I suppose your people feel comfortable enough here for that, no offense, of course."
He sighed and looked in the direction that Destiny took off in. He felt bad for snapping at her, but he was always kind of touchy about his work. He'd have to try to fix that later.
"Oh, the computers?" he asked. "Um, well... I was trying to hook up a network when I hit one of the cables to a monitor, and, well, the wires are very very old, you know, and been sitting outside for god knows how long, so it snapped and sparked and blew out the monitor. These things are so dang touchy..." He shrugged.

Destiny cried silently, her life was always harsh. She had bitter thoughts "he'll never respect the human girl. Just that stupid alien chick who could earn our trust, then betray us" she said aloud. She kicked a rock when she got up, then walked around, kicking it, when she ran into something. She looked up, seeing a big car, its trunk slightly open. She looked inside, curious. She found what looked like a computer, but MUCH more advanced, new. It was more of a flatscreen kind of monitor, and a square box kinda harddrive-esque area to turn it on and such, place disks in. She placed the monitor in her messenger bag, carrying the box where you turn it on. She also found some cables, so it helped. She looked inside the car itself, finding notebooks and such with notes of experiments, formulas, etc. She decided it was good enough and took everything home, the notebooks also in her messenger bag. She went into her room and put everything on a desk, then felt her bitterness slowly returning. She put on rock music, as so people would know not to bug her. She didnt want anyone to konw about this yet. She wanted to play a little with this. She took out the notebooks, then carefully eased out the monitor. She propped it up, seeing a paper attached to the back. It was folded. She frowned and unfolded it, the paper showing some pictures of the computer and monitor. She carefully opened it as she saw the paper was weathered. The drawing was in ink. The paper must have something ont he bottom, as it was ripped off. She guess the ripped peice was where to put it in, which jacks. She swore, today wasnt her day, at ALL.

Farrell yawned, putting down his hood as his eyes flickered. He found himself housing in a tree, but he used the term "housing" rather loosely. A better word would be that he fused his bottom half into the tree and the upper half was slanted, sleeping against a branch. He defused himself, shifting himself into an actual sitting position before fishing out a large coin. "Heads I stay and catch more sleep, tails I explore aimlessly." He flipped the coin, grabbing it in the air and seeing the result. Tails. He jumped down from the tree, putting his hood up and walking forward.

(looks like we like to sleep in trees... XD )
Elysse was moping along as usual through the forest, soaking up the sunshine, when she sensed someone nearby. After all those years trying to avoid people, she'd gotten pretty good at it, and she quickly and quietly scampered up into a tree to get out of sight. She didn't have the best of luck dealing with people, and gave up on them long ago, avoiding towns and such. She didn't need them and they didn't seem to want her. The stupid humans... just because she was extremely pale-skinned doesn't mean she was an alien. Couldn't they see that? She was walking in the sunshine in the middle of nowhere... but the humans had just gotten to be too paranoid and too unforgiving, and it didn't help any when she was still having 'accidents.' She sat very still and quiet in the tree, she did not want to be found.

((LOL that, or we're too cheap for a hotel))
Farrell tried to avoid stepping on any stray leaves or twigs, lest he give away his location. It seemed though that there were other people here. Aliens or humans? He whipped his head around, trying to find the slightest movements in the ground or in trees. He shrugged. Maybe it was just his imagination. He sighed, sitting down on the ground. He was bored and the lack of things to fuse with wasn't helping. He pulled out a blade of grass, positioning it on his finger and watching it fuse with his finger, turning his finger green and grass like.

(haha.. that is funny. My character actually has developed a phobia of towns, though. She has issues >.< )
Elysse spotted what appeared to be a boy in the distance, and she wondered what he was doing out in the woods. She wasn't curious enough to go ask, of course, but she did watch him. She couldn't see what he was up to, though, but she was waiting for him to leave, to be far enough away that she could continue on her way without being spotted. She didn't have anywhere she had to be, or a destination in mind, but sitting in the same place for a long time was just too boring.

((:0 Wow. I don't think that Farrell has developed enough issues...yet XD))
Farrell diffused the blade of glass, letting it drop to the ground. He looked up to a random tree. He could always merge with a tree and spy on people, but that was unethical. So little to do in a place like this. He stood up, brushing the dirt off of himself before deciding on where to go. If he was lucky he would meet someone.

((Sorry, I was on vacation and I just got your PM...hee. Alright, I'm happy this is finally on. I'll just start like I have no idea what's going on...I promise to read up tomorrow...its 1:30 am here...So Later!))
Lili opened the shutters of her small hut, letting in the morning light and air. Breathing deeply, she sighed at the sounds of the village's childeren wreaking havoc inside their own homes. She know that soon they would be coming to pay her a visit. Perhaps she should go and get come snacks ready? Turning she gathered a plate of various foods when she heard a knock on the door and turned to see an unfamiliar silouette standing in the doorway.

(yes, well, she's definitely lived long enough to pick up all kinds of odd behaviors)
Elysse saw the boy get up to go, and would have breathed a sigh of relief if she didn't know that would be risky. As it was, she was sitting as still as she could and barely even breathing. She could not take the chance that he would want to drag her into whatever little village was nearby.

Farrell decided to look for a nearby village in order to take rest (or play blackjack) in. He looked back one last time before continuing to trek through the forest. For some reason he couldn't shake the feeling of being lost, but it wasn't good to dwell on stuff like that.

Iaa wasn't listening to a word that Edward was saying. Instead, she was thinking about Destiny's behavior. "I think she likes you, Miss Destiny, you know," she told him, getting up and brushing dirt off of her derrière. "And, I think I must say that you should do something about it." Iaa nodded and saluted to him, pressing the red button again to appear back in her room.
Iaa tied on her boots and walked out the door. The new arrivals were to be there soon. She marched outside and stood next to her father, who didn't say a word to her. Hearing a humming sound, she looked up to see a huge UFO, getting ready to land. Crossing her fingers, she hoped to see a familiar face come out of the door. But as more and more aliens came out of the ship, her hope faded away. No mom. Iaa ran away before anyone could see her disappointed face.
