Alice nodded at Scarlett's suggestion. Her golden eyes were wide with worry for the woman. There was a rather long silence before Alice shot her gaze up and stared at a spot between the couples. A water-like shimmer suddenly formed a person, and the same boy from earlier suddenly stood between them.

"There is an old tunnel in the basement," his whispering voice was unsettling, though the words were . . . helpful. "If you wish to leave, I would suggest checking there." The spirit looked from Alice to Scarlett, and his black eyes moved to her stomach. "He's done the impossible." His hand moved to touch Scarlett's middle, but Gideon's hand went as though to brush it away. It passed through, but the motion made the boy stop. "I see."

Alice swallowed quietly. "Should we even trust this . . . thing?" She was eying the tall youth strangely, as though he might try to swallow them up right there.

Gideon frowned. "It's one of them. I don't . . . know." He recalled Heaven's words about some ghosts trying to help them, but . . . what if a malicious spirit had overheard? What if this was just a trick? "We haven't searched the basement. He might be telling the truth." His brown eyes moved to Andrew. "We shouldn't all go down. Scarlett should stay up here." And perhaps Alice.

Katie Scarlett Divine 01-21-2012 12:23 AM

"I'll be fine." She said, glancing to Gideon. "I wanna go too." She said stubbornly, already heading for the basement. She opened the door and glanced to the boys for them to go first.

Esmme 01-21-2012 04:47 AM

This could be a mistake. Gideon reached for Scarlett's hand as she surged ahead of them. Carefully stepping down the stairway, he watched as Scarlett swung the door open. It was cold in the basement - and dark. Pulling the flashlight from his pocket and flicking it on, Gideon swallowed. "Where are we looking? And what are we looking for?"

The youth smiled slightly, shaking his head. "This way." He stepped through Gideon, making him shudder. "I worked here many years ago. The house is full of the unforgiving, but I favor life." As confusing as ever, it seemed.

"So that's why you're helping us?" Gideon asked quietly, his light darting about to make sure there was nothing near them. Without the light, the ghost seemed to know exactly where he was going.

"It's part of the reason, yes." The tall youth finally came to a stop beside a brick wall. The rest of the area looked like some sort of cement, but this place was different. "It's through here. The tunnel leads out of the estate." He cocked his head as though listening to something before his colorless eyes widened. "He heard me. The others told him." The spirit cringed, and then looked to Scarlett. "They want the child. They won't stop until the child is dead."

Gideon growled, his hand tightening on Scarlett's. "We have to find a way to get past this wall. We don't have explosives, but . . . " He handed the flashlight to Scarlett and used his mechanical hand to touch the mortar. Some of it crumbled beneath his touch. "The mortar is old. If we had a few days, I might be able to get the bricks loose."
He didn't notice when their ghostly friend suddenly exploded into a burst of shimmering mist, sifting into the darkness.
-

Alice shuddered as they stepped into the basement. It was strange, but the instant she walked into the darkness, she couldn't see a thing. Even though she knew the others were there, something . . . happened. "Andrew?" She tried to speak, but her lips wouldn't move. Her sight was first, and then her voice. Then her hearing left . . . the voices of the others faded into whispers. It wasn't long before she couldn't feel Andrew's hand. "Andrew!" Once more, no sound was made. And Alice was lost.

Alice pulled her hand away from Andrew's, her gaze locked on the wall. She had slowed down enough to be the last one into the basement, hence the closest person to the door. Alice's staring eyes didn't blink as she licked her lips, her head slowly turning toward Andrew. A strange look, a feral look, was in her features as she eyed him. The darkness made her look foreign; bestial.
Curling her fingers into claws, Alice let a guttural sound escape her lips before she lunged forward, digging her nails into Andrew's arm as she fought to shove him aside. She managed to knock him off balance . . . and out of the way. Alice focused on Scarlett then, her mouth stretched into a vicious grin. She was going to kill the child.
Unfortunately, that was when Gideon was kneeling beside the wall, distracted.

Katie Scarlett Divine 01-31-2012 10:45 PM

((Sorry!! I've been super busy!!))

Scarlett stood still by Gideon as they made their way down the basement steps, she then heard Alice say something about Andrew. She turned her attention to the girl just in time to see her sudden change in appearance. She suddenly looked gruesome. And had her eyes on Scarlett. Scarlett froze, her heart thumping against her chest as she grabbed Gideons shoulder and watched as her brother tried to fight the girl off. "Gideon!" She yelled, frowning as her brother was getting shoved aside by the woman. "Andrew!" She yelled again, running towards the basement stairs to go up, but Alice stood in her way.

She locked eyes with Alice's. Green vs. a strange black. Where was Alice. She lunged forward and pinned the woman against the stairs behind her (They had fallen through the entrance to where the basement door was left open.) The woman stared intensely into Alice's eyes. "Alice come back to us! Fight this!" She yelled, tears streaming down her face. Obviously Alice was taken over. She would've never hurt Andrew.

Andrew had his hand in Alices and was watching Gideon inspect the mortar when suddenly Alice called for him. "Yeah babe?" He asked, turning his gaze to her. But when he turned his head it was not Alice that he was looking at. Her eyes turned dark, her facial expression a look of determination, and her eyes locked on Scarlett. He instantly pounced in between the two and tried his best to fight Alice from getting to Scar, when suddenly, Scarlett ran in between them and pinned Alice to the floor. There was a long claw mark across Andrews cheek.

He was wide eyed. Where had his Alice gone? "Please Alice!" He yelled, biting his bottom lip. "Come back to me!"

Esmme 02-01-2012 01:05 AM

((I completely understand, my friend! *purrs* I hope things turn out well. :3))

Alice didn't look surprised when she was knocked backward, but she fought back with a kind of intensity that most pit fighters lacked. Unseeing eyes locked on Scarlet, and Alice tried to lunge up and claw her. After struggling for a few moments, she seemed to hear Andrew's voice.
The pale woman let her dark gaze dart from Scarlett to Andrew, and then back. With a whimper, she seemed to relax slowly, closing her eyes and leaning her head back against the stairs. She looked frightened.

"What happened?" Gideon had followed Scarlett as quickly as he could, but he'd been startled. Picking up the flashlight, he carefully aimed the beam at Alice's face. The moment the light hit her, she changed again.

With a piercing shriek, she lunged forward and bit Scarlett.

Gideon cried out in surprise, shoving the feral woman back down and pulling Scarlett away. He could see the blood welling up on the side of her neck and shoulder already. "Alice! Stop!" He leaned his weight over her, keeping her down as she writhed. Alice wanted Scarlett dead - it was all too obvious.

Katie Scarlett Divine 02-07-2012 01:06 PM

((Things are getting better (: I'm just super sick >.< ))

At the bite Scarlett screamed and released Alice. The blonde fell back onto the cold cement floor and held her hand to the bite on her neck. "Gideon!" She whined, looking at her fully covered in blood hand. The woman sat up, coughing a few times and then helping Gideon and Andrew pin Alice back down to the floor. "Alice please stop or were going to have to hurt you!" She yelled, tears still rolling down her pale face.

Andrew helped Gideon hold down Alice. The boy sighed. "Alice please.. were going to have to knock you out if you don't stop!" He said, grabbing her wrists when she bit Scarlett. "Alice!" He growled.

Esmme 02-07-2012 04:34 PM

((:XD I'm sorry! My family is dealing with that right now. I'm the only one staying healthy . . . and even now I'm starting to feel it creeping up on me. I hope you get better!))

Gideon saw the blood, and his first reaction was worry. His second, though, was rage. As Andrew grabbed Alice's wrists to keep her from doing anything, Gideon backhanded her with enough strength to knock her senseless. Alice groaned, but fell still immediately. The young woman was hardly conscious.
"I'm sorry," Gideon apologized to Andrew, and then got up to check Scarlett. He frowned as he inspected the teeth marks on her neck as best he could. "Oh, Scarlett. . . ." He yanked the fabric that he usually wore about his head free, tossing his hair back as he wrapped it about Scarlett's neck. "This place is going to kill us."

The ghost reappeared, his dark eyes ominous. "They'll do anything possible to get to the child." He looked down at Alice's limp form sadly, and then watched Gideon care for Scarlett. "You need to go."

Gideon knew they needed to go, but it was getting out that would be the tricky part. "We need more time," he growled, lifting Scarlett's hand and pressing it to the now-wrapped wound. "Hold here. It will stop bleeding." It wasn't too deep, though it looked rather frightening. Now Scarlett had a dark crimson cloth wrapped about her neck, and a slowly spreading dark stain that darkened that further.
The flashlight dimmed a bit, and Gideon nearly groaned. That was their only light right now. If it went out, they'd have to get back upstairs. "We'll need another light."

The ghost frowned, and then looked down at Scarlett again. Moving to stand behind her, he seemingly touched her hair, though the touch was never felt. "He always loved you." He frowned, seeming to realize what he was saying. "He always loved her." The barely tangible youth sniffed once, shaking his head. "Troy knows where you are. If you need light, I can find one. You need to work on escaping, or you won't have the time. He won't let you."

Katie Scarlett Divine 02-19-2012 04:13 PM

((Oh its fine! For some reason my computer doesn't pop up saying I have new posts anymore.))

Scarlett held onto the crimson cloth, gasping at the blood she saw spreading through it. At the ghosts light touch, she looked over. She had not felt him, but a cold chill. "He loved her?" She asked softly, her emerald eyes dimming a bit as she looked at this male. "I know we have to leave.. but where to go?" She asked, sighing.

She took Gideons hand with her free one and gently ran her thumb over his knuckles. "Things will get better." She whispered. Though it sounded as if she was just trying to tell herself that. In this dark abyss of a basement she barely knew if they'd ever see the upstairs again. Let alone the outer world.

Andrew growled, but nodded at Gideons smack. "It's fine. We do what we have to to survive." He said, holding Alice's limp body. He stood up. "You pick up Scar and were going back upstairs. Theres an old tractor in the barn in the back woods. If we get to it then we can drive the tractor to the gate and use it as a ladder."

Esmme 02-19-2012 09:04 PM

((:XD That's strange! It's alright. I've been pretty nasty busy recently. Ugh. But . . . hmm. What do we do with our other thread? The pirate one seems to have died . . . and I really like that one! LOL))

"Where?" The youth smiled slightly. "Anywhere but here. He can't leave this place." Neither could any of the ghosts. They were bound to the estate. His pale features suddenly changed when he heard Andrew talking about the machinery in the barn.
"You will need fuel." He pointed to a crate near the corner of the basement, and suddenly flit over to lift the lid. It took a few tries - he seemed almost intangible, but forcing himself to stay "solid." When he stood beside Scarlett again, he was holding a gas can. "Quickly."

-

Gideon startled when he felt someone take his hand. Feeling Scarlett's thumb run over his knuckles, the male met her gaze. Her whisper sounded like she was trying to convince herself that things would get better, but he knew better than to call her on it. "Yes, they will."

When Andrew lifted Alice, Gideon nodded. Slowly offering his arms to Scarlett, he lifted her off the cold floor. Sending a wary glance to the ghost boy that followed them, Gideon held Scarlett a bit tighter. They had to save her . . . and the child. His dark hair tickled his features as they moved back upstairs, and he was keenly aware of the fact that Scarlett had the cloth tied about her neck. She was still bleeding, too. He could smell the coppery scent as it teased their senses.

By the time they got back upstairs, the spirit following them sucked in a quick breath. "They're restless again. They know what you want to do."

Katie Scarlett Divine 02-20-2012 03:04 AM

Scarlett smiled at the ghost male. "Thanks for the fuel." She said, wrapping her arms around Gideons neck so he could take her upstairs. "Restless? What will they do to me if we try to go out the door?" She asked, worry in her emerald eyes.

Andrew quickly went up the steps only to run straight into a crowd of unhappy looking bloody people. Each of them was moaning 'Scarlett' and Andrew seemed to of turned ghostly white himself. Some spirits were in the wall, coming out of the floor, the windows, everywhere in sight. "GIDEON RUN!" The male screamed, gently taking the fuel from the ghost. "Thank you! I'll remember this always!"

Esmme 02-20-2012 04:38 AM

Before the spirit had time to reply, the sound of moans and hissing cries made the boy flicker. He nearly dropped the gas can when Andrew took it from him. As the ghost heard the blond's words, he seemed to smile. "It's good to know that someone will think of me." With that he disappeared completely.

Gideon heard the warning, and when he caught a brief glimpse of what was coming out of the halls and floors he fought to keep himself from holding his breath. "Where?!" How could they run from something by heading deeper into the house? That's where they were wanted - that's where Troy and his followers were.
With a hiss, Gideon clutched Scarlett to him more tightly. Should they break out? "Andrew, the back door!" It was near the pool, but perhaps they could get there before the wraiths took the escape from them.
-

Alice startled awake when she heard Andrew yell. Blurry eyes looked up at the blond's face, but she couldn't make sense out of what was happening. She saw flashes and heard the noise, but everything was so disconnected that Alice wasn't sure what to think. The sloshing sound of the gas can made her close her eyes again. This time, instead of being a dead weight, she tightened her hold on Andrew. They were running, after all. Something must have been wrong.

((:XD Should they get out? What was our plan? LOL!! Did we have one at this point? *giggle*))

Katie Scarlett Divine 03-09-2012 02:58 AM

((Sorry! My computer stopped updating me when you post x.x And um.. I think that they shouldn't get out for a little longer so maybe one of the boys should get wounded so that they cant leave till they heal? I'll wait for your reply before I post. ))

Esmme 03-12-2012 12:34 AM

((Alright, maybe Andrew gets hurt? Alice is out for the count, and Scarlett won't be doing much. That leaves just Gideon. And that means they'll have to stay. :)))

Katie Scarlett Divine 03-19-2012 01:50 AM

((Kay I'll say Andrew like falls downstairs and breaks his poor leg ): Lol ))

Andrew ran for the door with Alice in hand but realized he dropped the gas can! "Fuck!" He screamed, sitting Alice down and then running towards the basement. At the top step he felt something kick his legs out from under him, and Andrew went tumbling. Suddenly the basement door slammed shut just as he was about to go through it and his leg bent upwards into it and a loud bone snapping sound was heard. Andrew screamed, but when he looked at his now twisted and deformed leg, he knew it was too late. The damage was done.

"HELP GIDEON!" He yelled up the steps, praying that Alice would be able to protect Scarlett. "ALICE IF YOU HEAR ME GO UPSTAIRS TO GIDEONS ROOM WITH SCARLETT AND STAY IN THERE!" He cried, biting his bottom lip to hide in his sobs from seeing his bone protruding out of the back of his calve.

Esmme 03-19-2012 02:05 AM

He heard the yell. Andrew was hurt and in trouble. "Damn," Gideon hesitated near the back door. That precious moment of hesitation lost their way out. A clawed hand scratched at the glass of the door, leaving furrows behind. Gideon's dark eyes widened, and he stepped back. Holding Scarlett close, he growled under his breath. They wouldn't be leaving this way.

Gideon froze. Where could they go? The only place he could think of was his room. They would all have to hole up and wait this out. "We need to find Andrew and Alice!" he said, realizing that the sounds and various voices coming from the shadows were rising in intensity. If they didn't get out of there fast, Scarlett was doomed.
The dark-haired male tightened his hold on the woman and bolted for the hallway. He saw Alice leaning against a wall not far from them. "Alice!" With Scarlett in his arms, Gideon was at a loss. He couldn't carry them both. Instead of stopping, he ran for the room. When he got there, he set Scarlett on the bed.
"I'll be right back," he breathed, "I promise."

He ran for the hall again, finding Alice quickly. He gathered the nearly conscious girl in his arms and ran back to the room. When he got there, he was breathless. Gideon's arms trembled as he set Alice beside Scarlett. "Alice! Where's Andrew?"

The woman's head lolled, and when she finally got her eyes open, her mouth wouldn't work. It wasn't long before Alice's chin hit her chest again.

Gideon raked a hand through his hair. Moving to the door, he looked down the hall. "Andrew!" he called out, not daring to leave both women without protection. "Andrew! Are you alright?!" Hopefully the spirits hadn't gotten to him.

((Awwww . . . .Andrew! OW!!! *grimace*))

Katie Scarlett Divine 03-20-2012 01:20 AM

((I know! ): Lol ))

Andrew grimaced. "I can't move Gideon, I'm gonna need your help..." He called softly, looking at the bone popping from his calve. "Don't let the girls see me either!" He called, knowing his sister would probably freak out and hurt someone. The male slowly started to inch up the stairs towards the door, letting out a cry of pain with every step. The stairs were black with a few cracks every now and then and the basement stair hallway was starting to dim.

Esmme 03-20-2012 01:49 AM

((Ugh. Sympathy pains. :XD Ow. Oww.))

Gideon glanced back at Alice and Scarlett. "He's just out here. I'll be right back." He heard the pain in Andrew's voice. He wasn't willing to leave his friend out there at the mercy of whatever else was in the house. The dark-haired male made his way down the hall, stopping when he got to the right place. He could hear a shuffling movement just in the darkness ahead of him. "Andrew? Is that you?"

His brown eyes scanned for a few moments before he saw the form of his friend leaning heavily against the wall for support. That's when his words hit him: Don't let the girls see me. Gideon immediately started forward, grabbing Andrew's arm with a worried expression on his face. "What happened?"
That's when the lights flickered, dying even more. He couldn't see Andrew's leg, but he could tell the male was favoring it. "Are you hurt?" When Andrew cried out in pain after putting pressure on his leg, Gideon shifted his hold and slung an arm under the male's arms to support him. There was no way they were getting anywhere anytime soon. This was going to be some slow moving.

"Come on, Andrew. We have to get you to the light." They needed to get him to the room.

Katie Scarlett Divine 03-20-2012 01:56 AM

Andrew leaned on Gideons shoulder and hopped up the remaining stairs. He bit his lip once he saw his leg in the light. "You'll have to bandage it up once we get to your room. Scarlett would die if she saw this.." The male stated, sighing softly. "I'm so sorry..." He mumbled, knowing they would not escape because of him. He started to hop towards the girl, frowning when his sister saw his appearance.

Scarlett screamed and ran towards her poor brother, helping Gideon hold him up. "Oh my poor Andrew!" She cried, tears running down her face.

Esmme 03-20-2012 02:29 AM

"This isn't your fault, Andrew." Gideon smiled grimly as he thought of the implications of staying even longer. They would have to - Alice was out, Andrew was hurt, and Scar was pregnant. They couldn't get out like this.
The moment they entered the room, Scarlett dashed over to help. "Easy, Scarlett," Gideon was shouldering a lot of Andrew's weight. "He needs medical attention." Sadly, none of them were medics. "Let's get him to the bathroom. We'll clean him up in there."

Things had gone from bad to worse. Gideon glanced down at Andrew's leg and grimaced. It looked like it hurt as much as hellfire would. They got Andrew to the bathroom and eased him to sit down on top of the toilet. It wasn't long before they were gently washing the area around the exposed bone. "I don't know how to deal with broken bones," Gideon admitted. The thing he did know how to manage was metal - and this was a bit different. Andrew was alive, for one. He could feel the pain.
"I've set mechanical settings before, but nothing like this." They couldn't leave it the way it was - Andrew would be a cripple by morning. He might never walk properly again as it was. Gideon kept those thoughts at bay as he inspected Andrew's leg again. "Dear Lord, that must hurt like hell."

Katie Scarlett Divine 03-21-2012 12:49 AM

"It does." Andrew grimaced, biting his bottom lip until it bled. "Scar, Remember when I popped the bone in my arm out and the doctors had to pop it back in and stitch me up? Well... i'm gonna need you to do that.." He said, patting her hand gently that was cleaning his wound. The male looked to his leg, grimacing. "And i'll be needing a splint of some sort? Alcohol, and crutches." He said, trying not to look to closely at his god awful leg.

Scarlett nodded, though was opposed by the idea of popping his bone back into his body. "Okay Andrew.. but it's going to hurt.. do you want us to knock you out first? I have sleeping pills upstairs." She said, frowning.

Esmme 03-21-2012 01:21 AM

"Andrew," Gideon met his gaze solidly, his voice firm. "You're strong. We'll take care you." He patted the male's shoulder before standing. "I can get the supplies. There's alcohol in the kitchen, and medical supplies in the bathroom down the hall." Strange how there were no supplies in the bathroom they were currently in.

"Do you need help, Scarlett?" The male eyed Andrew's leg again, grimacing. He wiped the expression off of his face as he thought of helping his friend. Time was pain.
-

Alice stirred. Her eyes opened slowly, and as she tried to look around she found the room blurry. The voices of her friends made her sigh in relief and relax. She couldn't focus on anything specific, but it sounded like someone was hurt. The dark-haired female tried to sit up, but the action never even happened. Instead, she merely thought about it . . . and fell still once more.
Her gold eyes slowly moved to the bathroom door. She could see Gideon's back, but nothing beyond that. Alice fell back into a semiconscious state, refusing to loose all contact with the world.

Katie Scarlett Divine 03-21-2012 01:42 AM

"I got it Gideon. But thank you. Oh and i'll need a needle and thread." She said, grabbing the bone that was protruding from his leg and pushing it back into Andrews leg. They hadn't had time for painkillers. She grimaced as Andrew let out a cry of pain. "I'm so sorry!" She yelled, hugging her brother tight.

Esmme 03-21-2012 02:03 AM

((:squee: Oh, I don't know if I could do that. Man, poor Andrew!))

Gideon heard Andrew's cry of pain as he turned away. Gritting his teeth, the male moved for the door. A swift movement made sure that he had an empty backpack slung over one shoulder. He didn't bother hiding the handgun that he drew from his sweater pocket. Flicking the safety off, he headed into the hallway after closing the door behind him. He would get the medicine and med-kit from the bathroom down the hall, and while he was out he would get the alcohol. They would need food, too.

It was a bit frightening to know that Troy was after Scarlett, and that they were officially stuck in the house. What could they do now? Andrew's leg was broken, Alice wasn't feeling the best, and Scarlett was both pregnant and hurt. Gideon prayed silently that nothing would happen to him, too. As of yet, he seemed to be the only one who wasn't harmed.
Minutes passed as he headed through the silent halls. The strange voices and noise from earlier had ceased, leaving the estate deathly quiet. It was eerily like a horror movie, honestly. Gideon had to keep telling himself that there was nothing wrong . . . but it was hard to believe a lie when he was telling it to himself.

After his stop by the kitchen for alcohol and some food, he went for the bathroom. His return trip was a bit frightening, especially after seeing darting movement at the edge of his vision. Every time he turned his head, someone was standing just out of sight.
Gideon eased his grip on his gun, clearing his throat and focusing on the cupboard for the medical supplies. He found a large amount of bandages, some disinfectant, thread and needle, and something that could be used as a splint. Honestly, it looked more like a half-cast, but it would have to do. Shoving it all into the backpack, Gideon stood and turned back toward the room. He wanted to hear the voices of his friends again.

When he neared the room, all sound suddenly just . . . cut. Gideon couldn't even hear himself moving. Glancing down, the male narrowed his brown eyes. Nothing was wrong . . . he just couldn't hear. Opening the door to the room, he slid inside. Alice shifted slightly, offering a weak half smile.
Gideon smiled tightly in return before stepping over to the bathroom. "Here," he said, pulling out a few supplies. He handed Scarlett everything she'd need to help Andrew. They also needed to get Scarlett's wound looked at. Alice really did a number on her when she bit her. . . .

Still, Gideon could hear nothing. It's temporary. He tried not to look bothered. He couldn't read lips, and there was no way he knew how to stop it from happening. Gideon brought the food out to set on the nightstand, and then returned to hand supplies to Scarlett when she needed them. Just . . . act normal. It will pass.

Katie Scarlett Divine 03-21-2012 09:30 PM

((Oh no, not Gideon! Lol ))

Scarlett smiled at Gideon. "Thanks." She said, pouring alcohol on Andrews leg, then binding it and using the half cast as a splint by tying it tightly around the break. She now had Andrew propped up against the bedpost so that he could lean against the pillows. "Here, drink this." She said, handing Andrew the alcohol bottle. She then looked to Gideon. "Everything okay, Babe?" She asked, looking over towards Alice who she had laid next to Andrew on the bed. "Could you maybe dress my wound?" She asked, pointing to her neck as she turned back to him. She went over to him and wrapped her arms around him, putting her forehead against his shoulder.

Andrew nodded in thanks and started to drink the alcohol. "Do you guys think you could look and see if theres a wheel chair or anything in this house that I could use to get around?"

Esmme 03-21-2012 11:39 PM

((Hahah, I had to throw yet another problem into the mix. ;) Though his ailment is only a little one. Just sound. Luckily he can still function semi-normally.))

Gideon looked as though he was distracted, and didn't reply to anyone's verbal cues. Instead, he watched as Andrew took the bottle from his sister. When Scarlett spoke, he frowned . . . but he knew what she meant when she pointed to her neck. The male blinked, nodding.
The very fact that he hadn't replied made everything seem . . . stilted. It wasn't until after Andrew had spoken when Gideon seemed to hesitate. He hadn't heard what they'd said, and it was really bothering him. Temporary or not, they should know.

As Gideon carefully pulled the makeshift bandage away from Scarlett's wound, he frowned darkly. "I . . . can't hear any of you," he said quietly, unsure of how loud he was speaking. He was glad that Scarlett was leaning against him, her forehead against his shoulder. It made him feel useful, despite what he was feeling. "Something happened out in the hall. I . . . just can't hear anything."
-

Alice smiled slightly when she heard Andrew's voice. She was alright . . . and recovering; Alice was just a bit tired. She could hardly open her eyes, but at least she could hear the voices of her friends.
