Twist of Fate
The blue haired man simply couldn't believe it. "This way sir." Supposedly the police had picked up some long removed relative of his; a vampire they'd accused of murder. Apparently they'd found the wrong guy though, something about evidence not matching up. They sure seemed to make a lot of mistakes, these people.
"Right here." The cement holding area was well lit at least. With a shrug the cinnamon skinned man sauntered forward to peer at this mysterious relative of his. Handcuffed and all, he sure seemed like a handful. Den grinned at the thought. He'd already filled out all the paperwork, now he just needed to pretend he knew the guy. Pulling the wool over the police's eyes was going to be so entertaining! "Yeah that's my cousin." Presumably that's what they were, many many times removed. Beefy hands were soon unlocking the cell door, and uncuffing the vampire, as if their owner just couldn't wait to get rid of the man. True, most people really didn't like the undead. Once the pair had been escorted outside, the well to do young man winked at his new found relative. "Well now that's over with, can I get your name? How'd you even get mixed up with all that." He remembered all of a sudden that he'd not introduced himself yet. "Call me Den." |
He had heard them coming down the walkway before they came into view, before they even came to his cell. The handcuffs clinked slightly as he moved, it was apparent they didn't trust him, but simple handcuffs couldn't really hold him. If he had wanted to, he was sure he could have broken them, but Wren behaved. Silent as the officer came and removed the cuffs, silent still as they were escorted outside.
Wren was ready to bolt, to run off and be about his business even though he really didn't have anything to do. He hesitated, if the other hadn't come, he might still be in the jail. That and he wasn't sure if they were really related, perhaps they were. Wren never put forth any effort to stay in touch with any of his family, he didn't see the point in it. Family was overrated. "Wren. My name is Wren." Red eyes watched Den carefully. "I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time." Those words were spoken with a shrug, as if it really hadn't mattered. "What do you want of me?" Surely this guy wanted something from him, why else help a vampire? |
He mulled that over for a while before tilting his head to the side with a grin. "I was bored and didn't have anything better to do." Den waved at his deep purple sports car with a questioning look. "Need me to drop you off someplace?" Didn't seem like the dark haired man was all that sociable. Usually Prudence wouldn't have minded all that much, but he was so bored and dragging a taciturn vampire along when he was trying to have fun didn't seem all that appealing.
A memory slipped trough his mind, making him wince slightly. Alright, so he was trying to forget the merman he'd tried to help. Rescuing a vampire didn't make up for the fact he'd failed that last time, still it did make him feel just a little better. Absentmindedly the green eyed man played with his tongue piercing, making it click against his teeth in a way most people found annoying. |
Wren stared at Den suspiciously for a few moments. Boredom. That was the reason this young man had vouched for him? Wren shoved the thought away, it wasn't important and when the sports car was gestured to, Wren looked it over for a few moments and licked his lips. He hadn't fully made his decision, until Den began clicking his tongue piercing against his teeth. The noise was grating to the vampire's ears and he moved quickly.
One hand shot out to grab Den by the throat, squeezing tightly and lifting him off the ground just a few inches, while Wren's other hand began to search through Den's pockets, for the keys to the pretty sports car. He didn't say a word, his hand sliding into Den's pockets, slowly. Almost sensually, one at a time, fingers searching almost gently for the keys while his other hand easily cut some of the air off to Den's lungs. |
One would think being dangled in the air by a vampire so suddenly might shatter somebody's composure, but not so with Den. He took slow deep breaths, as if daring the Wren to cut off his air supply completely. "Hon, if you wanted to play games you just had to ask," stated the blue haired man in a breathless murmur. Of course breathless, since that's all the air he could get. It wasn't his fault every word came out pitched just right for teasing seduction.Prudence was more interesting in the vampire then his car. He could always buy another one of those.
People walked by without making any comments. This was a rather big city after all, and meddling in stranger's affairs just didn't sit well with anyone. |
Wren blinked. Eyes narrowed, Den should be squirming, whimpering. Frightened. The vampire was used to easily intimidating people, this boy didn't seem so easily intimidated and that irritated and enticed Wren. He pulled the keys from one of Den's pockets and deposited them in his own pocket. "Do you like games?" He replied in the same type of breathy, teasing voice and then let go of Den's throat. Dropping the young man before he could answer, but Wren wasn't about to let the other fall, his arms snaked out quickly catching Den around the waist.
Wren harshly pulled Den against his body, his arms around Den's waist and his hands resting on each butt cheek, keeping the other's body pressed hard against him. He moved slightly, rocking his hips against Den as his head tilted down, bringing his lips to the other's neck. He feathered gentle kisses along the side of Den's throat before he plunged his fangs into the youth's neck. He bit hard. As if to prove a point, and only drank a little. People screamed. It was a busy street after all. No doubt some had started to call the police on their phones, and some even ran into the police station that they were so close to already. Wren only drank a little blood from Den, though he enjoyed the flavor, found it oddly familiar. Perhaps they really were family? Then Wren slipped his fangs from Den's flesh and shoved the boy hard away from him. The shove had mostly been to buy him a few extra seconds to get away from Den. Wren went for the sports car, slipping a hand in his pocket to retrieve the keys he'd stolen from Den. |
Prudence knew he was smirking with a rather strange look in his eyes. Movement made his heart beat fast and his breath came out as a gasp as he was dropped unexpectedly. Being dropped like that and pulled flush against the vampire's body had been the last thought on his mind. Yet before he knew it, Den was lifting his hands to grip Wren's arms tightly as the vampire did what all his kind did. The sapphire haired man would have started moaning any second if the dark haired vampire hadn't pushed him away.
Frustrated eyes turned to glare at Wren's retreating back as Prudence regained his balance. "Go ahead, take the damn car, but remember ... " He smirked now as he thought of the tracking device installed in the vehicle before continuing, "Remember that I'm just loaning it to you." It would be easy enough to find, along with the vampire. Of course there were failings to that way of thinking, but Den was hoping for the best. |
Wren barely glanced at Den as he pulled the keys from his pocket and reached the car. "You won't be getting this back." There was a slight grin on his lips when he spoke those words just before getting into the car and speeding off. Driving rather recklessly, but what did a vampire care for safe driving? What did he have to lose, really? Wren drove through the streets, heading towards the run down warehouse district. The vampire never even thought of the possibility that the car had a tracking device in it. It just wasn't the kind of thing someone normally thought of.
|
Prudence laughed and waved him off carelessly. As soon as the vampire was out of sight he whistled for a cab to hop into the bright yellow car. Soon he was back in the mansion he'd purchased a few months earlier to house a merman, but which now sported quite the collection of cars.
Den pursed his lips as he regarded all the different models before shrugging and hoping into an orange dodge dart, the latest model and not one of the old ones from the 1960s. Settling into the leather seat, he pulled out his netbook from beneath the seat and typed in a few prompts. Just like that, he knew where his sporty car and the vampire were. He liked that purple car! It was great for grabbing attention at parties though for regular driving he used the orange car. With a shake of his head, the blue haired man was slipping out of his home once more and driving towards the old abandoned warehouse. A dodge dart appeared in one of the nearby parking lots, while it's owner found himself sneaking into the abandoned building. Where else would a fugitive vampire go? |
The purple sports car was parked in the middle of the abandoned warehouse. Well, mostly abandoned. It was a meeting place of sorts, for a particular coven of vampires. That lovely car was sporting a very deep, Wren sized dent in the hood, as if someone very strong had slammed the vampire into the car. Someone had. Wren shifted on his feet, so far, other than being slammed into the car, the leader of the coven had said nothing and done nothing else. Just stared Wren down and watched him squirm. Wren was the lowest in their hierarchy and so such things as taking the fall for the leader fell to him.
Something Wren had failed at. Wren glared with open defiance, but said nothing. A ring of vampires stood watching, glaring and looking rather hungry. Wren had no doubt in his mind that they would probably kill him, but he had come straight here, there was a small chance for mercy. The leader stepped towards Wren, he was taller and more muscular and his eyes were so dark they nearly seemed black. He growled. "Idiot. You had one job to do, an easy job and you couldn't even do that right." Wren tensed, and growled. Any chance of mercy had left with his growl and words. "It's your fault, the evidence didn't add up so the police are still on your tail because you're the idiot." The leader didn't hesitate, his fist found Wren's ribs rather quickly, with a force that cracked some and lifted Wren off the floor and sent him flying into a few of the spectators. "Drain him dry. He's useless." The leader turned away to leave and the ring of vampire spectators began to descend on Wren. Strong hands clutching tightly to him as he squirmed and growled. Fangs bit harshly into his flesh, everywhere. There were at least fifteen vampires there, most of them holding him down and biting him. It wasn't long before Wren's growls and snarls and threats turned to pain filled whimpers, and his struggling nearly stopped. |
The young man hid behind a pillar and peeked out as a strong voice rang trough the air. It sent a chill down his spine to see all of these people surrounding the man he'd met earlier. To think that he'd created such a mess for Wren with his good intentions! Because of that, well he couldn't very well let the other man die, now could he?
It took all of Den's will power not to run out there screaming when whimpers of pain slithered trough the air. No, instead he needed to think of a solution, and that he did with a playful grin despite the seriousness of the situation. A slender hand slid into his pocket and nimble extracted his phone. Silently he looked trough all the ring tones until he found the blaring siren that always reminded him of police cars. He turned up the volume and watched it take effect, and it worked shockingly well at that! The remaining vampires scrambled over each other to escape their impending imprisonment, or so they thought. Bumbling fools, they even tripped over each other in their haste! As soon as the coast was clear, the green eyed man tumbled from behind his hiding spot and rushed to Wren's side. "Hi there Princess, looked like you needed some rescuing." Gently, the cinnamon skinned man tried to shift Wren so he could either carry him to the dented car, or at least help him walk there. |
Wren closed his eyes. He had known one day his insolent ways would get him in trouble with the coven, but he hadn't expected he would be taken out like this. He wasn't sure how much time passed between when he closed his eyes and when the siren started, but it didn't matter. He was thankful for the noise as the vampires scattered, scrambled and nearly trampled each other to get away. Wren fully expected the police, not the blue haired boy. His eyes opened when he heard that voice. Eyes unfocused and filled with pain.
"...You.." He mumbled the word, reaching out for Den. When the other tempted to shift him, Wren clutched to him hard, blood oozed from dozens of puncture marks and the hunger gripped Wren almost violently. He clung to Den tightly, pressing himself against the other, and nuzzling his face against the young man before he bit into him. Biting whatever part was closest, whichever part of Den he could get his fangs into to drink. To take in that life blood that would keep himself alive. |
"Miss me so soon?" joked Prudence lightly when he felt a vice-like grip. Though he played around, he was worried by all the blood he saw flowing from what seemed like far too many wounds. With a sigh, he let the pretense drop and pulled Wren near. Willingly, the young man titled his head aside to make it easier for the vampire to bite his neck.
A sharp intake of breath was the only sign Den gave of how painful that desperate bite had been. For some reason, after a little while, his thoughts began to blur and fragment. No matter how much he tried to connect them together, the young man simply could not do it. Distantly he noted it probably had to do with blood loss, but Den couldn't bring himself to care. His hold upon the vampire loosened as his own strength ebbed with the flow of his blood. |
It was so good, so delicious. Wren pulled at Den's blood greedily, hungrily. His eyes had closed again and his wounds slowly began to close as he pulled in the fresh, living, wonderfully refreshing life blood. A content moan left Wren's lips and for a little while he lost himself in the taste, the feeling of sating his hunger, of feeling of being refreshed and rejuvenated. Wren had lost himself in the feeding, but not for too long. Slowly he came back to himself, feeling stronger. Still hungering and very reluctant to release his meal, he could drain every drop, it would be so easy.
Wren growled almost possessively then his eyes opened, and he pulled away. He was a troublemaker, that was certain, but Wren wasn't a killer. The vampire whimpered softly, nuzzling gently against Den's neck and flicking his tongue against the puncture wounds he had left. Wren was still weak, but he would survive and recover quickly now, thanks to Den's blood, yet the vampire still clutched tightly to Den. The blue haired boy had saved him. No one had saved him from anything before. |
Everything was so peaceful. There were no thoughts to perturb him anymore, there was simple being. Prudence let out a soft moan as his peace was shattered and reality imposed itself upon his mind once more. What was that wet sensation upon his neck? He felt so weak, and frail. Fuzzily, the blue haired man tried to recall why he was in such a state.
Something to do with dark hair and red eyes ... And his car. Den's head lolled to the side as he tried to see who held him so tightly. He gave up, and let it rest against the other man quietly. There was something slightly familiar about this. Memory returned, along with a sense of relief. So, he'd managed to save the vampire after all. |
Wren didn't much like this, being weak in front of others. Especially being weak in front of humans. A vampire wasn't a weak creature, though for a few moments he was afraid, worried that he had taken far too much from Den. It was an accident, he had been in such a state, so hungry. Even now he still felt weak and helpless, it didn't matter. He licked gently, almost tenderly along Den's neck, his eyes half closed.
Wren couldn't really do much, he could leave now, leave Den here in his own weakened state, and if the others returned they would quickly make short work of Den. Slowly Wren let go of Den. Moving his head away from the other's neck and moving to stand a few feet away from the blue haired young man. Wren crossed his arms across his chest, frowning a bit with his back to Den. He didn't want to look at the other male right now. |
He let out a soft sound when that warm, wet, sensation slipped across his neck again. The blue haired man didn't want it to stop, but just as suddenly as the feeling had come, it disappeared. Only when he was placed upon the ground did Prudence somehow force himself to open his eyes. He twisted his head and caught sight of Wren.
For some reason the sight made him break out with a small smile. Laughing silently at himself, the young man struggled to sit up. It was so much effort to do only that! "Hey ... Are you just going to stand there, or are you going to help me get into my car?" Prudence was determined that he'd find his way home alone after that, somehow. |
Wren didn't move immediately when he heard Den move around and the other male spoke. He just stood there for a few moments before finally turning and moving towards Den. There was a little of Den's blood at the corner of Wren's lips, but the vampire didn't notice, or he just didn't care. He glanced at the car and winced slightly at the dent in the hood. "I'm not paying for damages." He wrinkled his nose, almost in disdain and then grabbed Den.
Wren pulled the young man to his feet and nearly dragged him to the car. He pulled the passenger side door open and shoved Den in the car in a not so gentle manner and closed the door. The keys were in his pocket, he had thought maybe giving the car as a gift to the leader would help, but the man hadn't been interested at all. Wren moved around the car and pulled the keys from his pocket just before slipping into the driver's seat. He started the car and glanced at Den. He spoke with a slight hint of irritation in his tone. "Where should I drop you?" |
"I don't care about the car," mumbled Prudence ruefully after he was dragged into said vehicle. With a sigh he leaned back against the leather seat. He could fall asleep right there without a care in the world, if he hadn't seen what those other vampires had done to Wren. If only he hadn't been so insistent on breaking his boredom ... Then he wouldn't have been in such a sorry state.
Den glanced at the dark haired vampire with a resigned look. Admittedly, it had been fun before the run in with the coven. "My place is the big mansion at the edge of town. Can't miss it. There's plenty of room." It was lonely. He'd never intended to stay there alone, but circumstances had changed that plan unexpectedly. |
Wren looked at Den, just watching the human for a while before he started to drive off. Somehow he wasn't very surprised to hear where Den lived. The vampire actually drove pretty good down the streets. Following the speed limit and obeying traffic laws, but then again it was different with a non vampire sitting in the passenger seat. He glanced at Den occasionally as he drove, just making sure the young man wasn't actually dying, Wren had taken so much blood from him. He felt a little guilty about that but he was not about to apologize.
He cleared his throat slightly, as if to get Den's attention. "You told the police we're cousins. Is it true?" Wren was just curious, but he suspected there might be truth to it. He was torn though, half hoping they were and half hoping they weren't even though he was pretty sure that knowing such a thing wouldn't really change anything. He had no obligations to his family, they were the ones that had tossed him away, like garbage. He growled, eyes narrowed as he gripped the steering wheel very tightly as he drove towards Den's home. |
He glanced out the window before answering. They neared his home, and Prudence was more grateful for that then he cared to admit. "It's true, but only distantly." The way Wren had reacted made him wonder what could have happened to make the other man so tense at the mention of family. True, Den had cut himself off from his parents, though of late they'd been communicating more. Those were different circumstances, ones that any one might encounter.
It seemed to him that perhaps the vampire's past was anything but regular. A teasing spark entered Prudence's eyes as he turned to peer at the dark haired man. "Hold that any tighter and it'll break." It was still kind of funny to think that Wren had made his mark on the car, quite literally at that. |
Wren was silent, only blinking and relaxing his grip on the steering wheel when Den said something about it. He had already damaged the car once, he didn't need to damage it again. The vampire had thought knowing the truth wouldn't change things, but he was wrong, as he glanced at Den, his gaze was a little icier than before, with a hint of anger in those red eyes. He shook his head slightly and soon pulled into the driveway of Den's house.
Den had rescued him. No matter how hard he tried to think about something else, that thought surged to the forefront. Den had rescued him and they were related. Wren parked the car in front of the house, turned it off and looked at Den. "Why save me? You could have just left me there and taken your car back." There was a need in Wren's voice, even though he tried to keep it out. He needed to know why Den would do such a thing. Knowing they were family hadn't changed that, he would have asked the same question, though it would have been asked with a need to know why a stranger would be so willing help the person that had stolen their car. |
The blue haired man waved the question away nonchalantly. "It was the right thing to do, simple as that." He didn't want to get into all of his previous attempts at helping people, and how miserably he'd failed. The merman hadn't been the first person Prudence had tried to help; he'd just been the latest. Then of course Wren had come along, plopped into his life by a phone call the police had sent his way.
Den was still trying to understand how exactly they were related. It was definitely a tidy little puzzle. The authorities had mentioned a distant relative he'd only heard of on his mother's side of the family being the supposed connection ... In any case, he'd been the only person the police could find that might want to take the vampire off their hands. "You can crash at my place if you want. There's plenty of room." How they'd met didn't matter much to the cinnamon skinned man at that point. He just wanted to get inside and onto a couch so he could sleep off the fatigue brought on by blood loss. |
"That's a very lame excuse." Wren watched Den warily, that suspicion in his eyes only increasing when the human invited him to stay. "Whatever." He grumbled the word lightly under his breath. The vampire watched Den for a few moments longer and then got out of the car, he moved around to the passenger side, yanked the door open and pulled Den out a little more roughly than was necessary. Once Den was free of the car, Wren shut the door and tugged Den up to the front door of the house. There he stood, tapping a foot almost impatiently as he waited for Den to open the door and invite him in. Without an invitation, Wren couldn't enter the dwelling of a human, any human. It was some weird vampire rule and it was true, it would be like he was trying to walk through a solid brick wall if he tried to cross the threshold without actually being invited in.
|
He laughed a little at that. Perhaps it was lame, but it was certainly true. Prudence was under the impression that ay struggling on his part would only get him in more trouble, and so he allowed himself to be dragged about without comment. In a way he was glad of this, because it meant not worrying about how to get himself into his own home. Den grumbled silently to himself as he fumbled for the silver key in his pocket. More then once it was nearly dropped as the blue haired man struggled to fit it into the lock .
At last the door creaked open to reveal the nearly empty interior. A large flatscreen tv dominated one wall, and was faced with a blanket covered couch. Prudence hadn't felt like making any effort in the decorative department. A puzzled glance was sent Wren's way, before Den remembered some of the old books he'd read. So, apparently there was some truth to them after all. "You can go into my house. I did want you to be my guest after all." Hopefully the few words were invitation enough. |
