Ty nodded, "Yeah, that is a good thing. Please tell me there are tweezers in the first aid kit," Ty stated with a begging tone. He didn't know what they were going to do if there wasn't. There was a good chance that the wound would get infected and Ty would be sick with a fever. Ty shook in fear just at the thought of being sick. The last time he was sick, it did a number on his lungs; Ty couldn't imagine what would happen if he got sick again. Ty shuddered, he didn't want to get sick. He didn't want to lose anything else. He already lost his dream. He begged that nothing else was taken away from him.
Ty leaned up and looked at Danny, "What happened to you?" he asked noticing that the other was slightly out of breath and a bit rattled at that. |
Danny pulled up one of the old marble-top coffee tables and sat in front of Ty. "It's got everything under the sun short of an actual hospital." Danny said, setting everything beside him. He glanced at his arm, but didn't speak of it until Ty said something. "Nothing." He lied. "Got caught and almost fell down the stairs. Startled me a bit." He lifted Ty's foot gingerly and braced it on his knee. "Nice to know everything still works in the house." He noted, and situated the bag of ice below the wound that was obviously more dangerous than the sprain at that point. Finding a pen light in one of the outer pockets of the black first aid bag, Danny flicked it on and put its end in his mouth to free up his hands. "Got some painkiller shots here." He spoke with a bit of a muffle around the flashlight. "Designed with pre-measured labels." He found one that would only administer enough to numb the leg from the knee down for about an hour. "Hold still." He uncapped the needle and stabbed Ty's leg, right behind the knee. It was made for quick administration and would begin working almost immediately. "You okay right now?" He glanced up to Ty as he found the tweezers for the small bits of wood in the deep wound. |
Ty leaned back and didn't even want to watch as Danny injected the medication into his leg. He felt like he was going to be sick. He hated needles. He hated hospitals. He hated the whole shebang. Just the idea of Danny having to use tweezers to pull the bits of wood out of his calf was enough to make him nauseous. Ty looked up at Danny as he asked the question. He was undoubtedly paler now and he had broken out into a cold sweat. He was scared. He hated this. He hated being hurt or sick.
"As alright as I'm going to be," Ty replied as he leaned his head to the side, resting his cheek against the soft material of the couch. "What is the worst case scenario?" he asked quietly as he closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths before opening them again. He kept his eyes on Danny and watched his every move. It wasn't that he didn't trust him, he just needed to know what was happening even if it was going to make him feel sicker and become more anxious. |
Danny clenched the light between his teeth as he tested the numbing agent. Poking several times with the sharp ends of the tweezers, he found Ty's leg completely numb from the knee down, at least. "Worst case scenario?" He repeated through the flashlight, beginning the slow extraction of various small demons. "You'd become infected. The infection would move through the bloodstream and possibly kill you. But I have to doubt it would happen so quickly." Most of the large shards were out now. He focused on getting the deeper, smaller ones, and squinted in the pale, but effective, light. "Since it's a more open wound and is being taken care of within the hour, I can disinfect it... maybe a little crudely, but it's effective." The final piece was embedded quite deep. It took a moment to grab it, but he dug it from the red meat and sighed, setting the tweezers down. "Okay, you might feel a light stinging, but not much else." He dug around the bag again, situating the ice bag back on Ty's ankle. The swelling looked like it was going down. Finding the bottle of alcohol, he uncapped it and poured the contents gradually onto the open slice, bending Ty's leg down so it drained all the way out and was irrigated. "I'm not perfect, but it'll prevent infection." Danny sighed. "Doesn't look like it'll need stitches. I'll patch it open so it can heal. We'll have to bring extra with us when we leave, though." He brought out the gauze and wrappings, unrolling them and pressing the gauze on the wound. He kept it for a few moments, feeling Ty's heart racing under his hand. Danny shook his head, replacing it with clean packing and wrapping it. "Okay." He said, tightening the bandage, but not so much to restrict blood flow. "That's half done." Looking back in the bag, Danny found an ankle brace specifically for sprains. "Swelling should be down now." He took off the ice and tested the ankle. Yes, the swelling had gone down. Lifting Ty's foot a bit more, he set the brace aside and wrapped a tensor bandage around the foot and up a bit to where the brace would fit, not quite to where the wound was. It was tight, but not overly so. As he fitted the brace, he glanced up at Ty. "You doing okay?" He asked. |
Despite not being able to feel anything from the knee down, Ty still winced every time Danny moved the tweezers around inside his leg. Ty's entire body was tense, his breathing fast and shallow; he was so close to tearing at the seams. Ty threw his head back and hissed as he felt the alcohol poured into the wound and let out a soft whimper. "Dang..." he whispered to himself. He felt like he was going to be sick. All the color in his face was gone, and his entire body was trembling. Grunting in pain as Danny shifted the on his ankle, Ty leaned back and closed his eyes. The worst part was over. After all that he had just been through, he almost found bandaging the wound to be relaxing.
Ty whined as Danny lifted his foot up and winced as Danny pulled the brace over his foot and over his ankle. As Danny wrapped his ankle with the tensor bandage, he couldn't help but whimper. When the brace and tensor bandage were fitted and secure, Ty leaned back and let out a soft moan. He only lifted his head when he heard Danny's question, "Peachy," he retorted before letting his head drop back down onto the back of the couch. |
Danny shook his head, managing to smile a bit. At least he was well enough to respond as he normally would. That was a good sign. "Almost done, here." He tightened the velcro, wrapping the buckles around and snapping them in place. "Okay, that's done." He lifted Ty's leg and stood, stacking a couple pillows on the table and setting it back down. "Keep it up for a while. That'd be better than just getting up and taking off. Best for circulation." He set the bag down and used the rest of the alcohol on his arm. The scratches were deeper than he'd thought, and burned so powerfully Danny thought he'd hear the wounds hiss in reaction. They didn't, however, and he tossed the empty bottle into the fireplace. "Can't stay here forever, there might be something here." Danny muttered, packing the rest of the items in the medical bag before grabbing some spare gauze to wrap his arm. The cuts went from his bicep to his wrist, and the concept of keeping them in the open in such a strange, unpredictable place was certainly not appealing. Cinching the bandage, Danny threw himself on the couch with a sigh. "This might not have been the best idea." He said. |
Ty gasped as Danny tightened velcro around the brace and closed his eyes, "Dang," he whimpered as he felt Danny pull his leg up and prop it up on a few pillows. "Alright... I'll keep it up," he agreed as he watched Danny wrap up his arm. "What happened to you?" he asked tilting his head to the side and sighed when Danny sat on the couch next to him. Ty leaned his head on Danny's shoulder, "Sorry, Danny... I'm just feeling a bit lightheaded," he admitted quietly closing his eyes again. His head was just pounded and his forehead was already covered in a cold sweat from the pain and fear he felt just a moment ago.
"What might not have been the best idea?" he asked quietly as he opened his eyes for a second again. "And why wasn't it a good idea?" he added before closing his eyes again the moment he felt everything starting to spin. |
Danny put a hand to his head, brushing his hair back as he thought. What wasn't a good idea? Everything they'd decided on since admitting the dreams. Danny deciding that the best thing to do would to go right in and face their terrors. "Just about everything since this morning." He sighed at last. "The dream is toying with us now. It's screwing us up by keeping things silent, then bringing out horrors when we least expect it. In the basement I was attacked by a snake. It looked like it was made of a living shadow. Then the spiders, like in every dream I've been having. A couple grabbed my arm and cut into me, that's where the cuts came from." He looked down to his arm. The wrapping was thick enough to keep blood from leaking through, but not for more than several hours. "We can't stay here for more than an hour, though. There might be more... things... upstairs. Here..." He went forward slightly, bringing up his foot with the bag and opening it. "Take these..." Danny grabbed a bottle and shook out a few tablets, then a short bottle of generic water. "They're dizziness pills. Good for taking care of lightheadedness too." Taking Ty's hand, he deposited the medicine on his palm and set the water beside them. "They'll work in fifteen minutes." |
