I've gotten both of my big toe-nails removed because fungus (or something) was growing underneath them and I was sick of tired of fighting them off. Then on the left foot, the nail didn't grow back...

I would never eat one. Just the thought of hearing their crunchiness while chewing creeps me out. Plus I don't think that they would really fill you...
