I used a graphire 4x5 for about 5 years, before upgrading to an Intuos 6x8. 4x5 is actually fine and works very well... it doesn't have any effect on your art. However, if you like to use broader, wider strokes, getting a large tablet may be more helpful for you. By using the smaller tablet, I've gotten into the habit of making very small strokes.
