Lira flew over the surface of the small pond near her home, skipping over the surface and leaving small rings growing into large ones. She moved down closer letting the tips of her feet and one hand trail in the water.
She suddenly braked and turned to the right, creating a small spray of water. Her 2'5" frame suddenly shot up straight in the air, leaving the water behind. She went faster and faster, tears streaming from her eyes at the cold air. Eventually she reached a height equivalent to the top of Somme city. The air was bitterly cold on a good day and the air thin. Lira hovered for a moment, feeling her chest beginning to hurt as she struggled to grab a breath. Black spots danced at the edge of her vision.
Lira could feel herself slipping into unconsciousness. After a moment her body became limp and her wings stopped beating. Gravity took over and her unconscious body fell through the air coming closer and closer to the pond. As she dropped lower, she woke up because of the more abundant oxygen.
Angling her body downwards, she could see the pond rushing closer and closer. Lira waited, trying to see how long she could last before stopping. With less than a minute left she began slowing down, stopping and hovering right above the surface of the water. She could see the fish swimming down at the bottom of the pond, oblivious to her presence. With a grin, she stopped hovering and slipped down under the water without a splash.
