Lira flew up to the top of the statue that was situated in a decorative pond in the city square. It was a very good perch, and her blue eyes could survey the comings and goings of the city around her. Plus, it was near water and she always felt safe near water
Suddenly, a purple-gray streak flew straight towards her. Lira moved out of the way just in time to avoid getting knocked off into the water. She stood up and put her hands on her hips in mock anger. She turned to face her assailant, which had turned into another purple and gray fairy hovering behind her and laughing.
"Hermia!" she shouted at her friend, pretending to sound gruff. "We have no time for such tomfoolery! When will you stop with those infantile games?"
Hermia striaghtened up and bowed towards Lira. "Oh I'm sorry Lord Aubert. I thought Lira was here today in the city but it appears her father has come instead."
Both girls collapsed into giggles, and Hermia settled herself on the statue's head next to Lira. She was about to ask why Lira was in the city that day when Lira suddenly pointed across the square. "Look, I think a street performer is setting up for a show. Let's go watch!"
Hermia agreed and the two fairies flew across the square, alighting on a tree branch that gave them an unguarded view of the performer.
