It is nothing but a sexist excuse but I believe it becomes an issue of giving what you get. A woman hits a man that means she provoked any response from the man but what is the likelyhood that they are both matched in strength? If the man hit the woman back with the same intensity as he was hit that would be one thing but that usually isn't the case.
I just say we shouldn't resort to violence no matter what your gender is.
