I have a friend that is terrified of needles and she's 18... She just avoids needles at all costs. I actually like needles - don't ask why - so I torment my friend. We just talk about them and she gets squirmy and usually leaves the room. It's all in good fun, but I find it hilarious.
As for your problem, I wish I could help you, but the most support I can give you is not to look at the needle and hope you're getting candy.... or something. ><
