okay, my show is over and I vacuumed the carpet so that I could take out the hamster cage and check on the babies and clean out the area mommy hamster has them in. egosh there was LOTS of poop in it! and I only found 4 babies ... there were 5. so I was all sad. but it's pretty cool because one of them is almost totally black ... not the typical color for a dwarf asian hamster ... and another one of them, who is a light gray, is being VERY sluggish. they are no over a week old and have their fur, so I don't know what is the deal with him ... maybe it just wasn't feeling good. anyway, so I put the babies back in their habitat with fresh bedding and filled the main food dish when I heard the same baby squeek I've been hearing since yesterday that I thought was the babies in the wheel. and then I noticed little feet flailing in the bedding of the main cage by the water thingie. there was the 5th baby. apparently it toppled out of the area the babies were in and momma had been going and feeding it by itself since it is too big for her to put back and it was upset that it was by itself. so I plunked it in with it's 4 little sibs and it is all happy now. and of course, momma took a bunch of food in the area like usual. but at least it isn't full of hamster poo anymore!
