The woman had not introduced herself, though he wasn't too surprised by that. He had half expected such. He hadn't stated such titles to impress her, he had only stated them because they were the truth. Respect he cared little for, respect was not something to be gained by tossing titles around. A thoughtful silence seemed to enclose him.
When she settled herself back on the root of the tree, he lowered himself to crouch before her. It was a bit unsettling, the way her face showed emotion, the way her voice held it, while her eyes were cold. Empty. It made a word come to mind. Soulless. But such a thing, could not be possible. The thoughtful silence remained about him for a few moments longer after she had spoke. He did not answer her right away, merely contemplated his answer.
Finally, his lips parted. "I am not important. Merely a tool for a higher power, but never important." He said such words easily, as if his own life had no real meaning other than being tugged about like a puppet on strings. Truthfully he had much more freedom than a stringed puppet. "I have no business, it is simple curiosity that compels me." He might have said more, but he did not continue. Choosing instead to fall silent.
