Well, I do agree with you to some extent concerning most of the music that actually gets played on the radio, but in my opinion, there are actually a lot of great bands out there these days. Unfortunately, they're the ones that the majority of people have never heard of.

What kind of bothers me, though, is how much what actually gets played on the radio has changed just in the last decade or so. When I was younger, a lot of the popular songs these days would NEVER have been played on most of the stations that I hear them on now. I remember a few years ago when "California Girls" by Katy Perry first came out, and my friends and I were all somewhat shocked when they didn't beep out "sex" in the lyrics. Now you hear that kind of thing all the time - I actually heard Rihanna's "S and M" played on the radio on a station that, if I'm not mistaken, used to advertise as being a family station a few years ago. And it's not the songs themselves so much that bother me; it's the fact that so many elementary and middle school students are such big fans of those artists, and at least where I live, I've noticed that kind of media influences them A LOT. It's sad to me how much kids have changed, just in the time that's passed since I was that age.

But anyway, to be totally honest, I think part of the reason why only the more mindless music gets played on the radio is that the vast majority of people listening don't WANT the lyrics to actually make them think.
