Sophie arrived at school as her mom dropped her off at the gates, and reached forward tapping her mom on the shoulder and her mother turned around. Once Sophie knew her mother could see her she quickly signed I love you mom. Thanks for the ride. Have a good day at work. (I'm writing the sign out in proper english order but that's not right, but trying to make it easy for all y'all who don't know sign.) Her mother gave her a smile and signed her response before shooing her daughter out the door.
Sophie had been deaf since the age of four when she was in a car crash with her parents, which she was the only survivor of. She refused to be treated like she was disabled - and she was loving it here. Even if communicating was a bit of a challenge. Being a bit early, she sat down on a bench out front of the main buildings, and started to read.
