In her mind she snatched his hand and lunged toward him, her teeth sinking into his soft flesh. . . .
"Sorry," the woman whispered in return, pulling a half-hearted smile onto her lips. Jill cradled his warm hand to her like a life preserver, rubbing her cheek against his palm. "I feel a bit better now." As though her body protested with her lie, Jill felt a streak of pain stake through her chest. Her expression faltered, but the woman recovered swiftly. "How about you? Feeling alright, Kaden?"
