The night was still, the air cool, and the breeze was as gentle as a baby's breath. Nikholas closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, inhaling the fresh air slowly and exhaling a few moments later. It was the evening of the third week before the beginning of summer and his guests were to arrive soon. The total number of invites he had sent out this year topped all of the previous years, making there more food to be made, more room necessary to dance, more rooms needed for housing. However, the smooth fae that he was, he had figured everything out weeks in advance. The country estate was massive on the outside, yes, but inside- Oh Nikholas had bewitched the interior to expand it further, thousands of bedroom suites now available, the ballroom large enough to hold masses of thousands, and his dining hall was better than those that were fit for kings. The house was elegant, orderly, and, quite frankly, empty. It was only when the grandfather clock struck seven that his driveway suddenly came alive. All at once, creatures of all sorts were spilling out of carriages, boats, and cars, off of horses, elephants, and camel. What a splendid turn out. Nikholas smiled, overlooking everything from the expansive balcony over the main entrance.
As the first guest approached the vine and flower covered grand entrance, the double doors would open automatically for them. Nikholas, still smiling, tied on his mask and made his way down the stairs. The entrance lead directly into the grand ballroom, fit to occupy thousands, with cherub-ornamented, gold-gilded ceilings, white marble floors, and large musicians' stands on both sides. As soon as the door opened for the first time, instruments would appear and began to play by themselves, an entrancing, light melody with a slow tempo. Nikholas would stand in the middle of the ballroom, one hand outstretched to the side, bowing to his guests. The first inside began to look around, applaud his magnificent work, and in couples, they began to dance.
Vicktoria arrived in one of the first few carriages, though she had been to her lord's mansion yet a few hours earlier in the day to help set up all of the three weeks' festivities. Entering the grand room astonished her nevertheless, admiring his handiwork and humming softly to the enchanting tune that the couples upon the floor were already dancing to. For now, she took a position along the sidelines of the room, by the concessions, pouring herself a glass of wine as she looked out over their guests.
