Grandma sort of evolved her family dinners around dishes she thought people liked. If she knew I was coming over, there'd be deviled eggs. My little brother really liked that jello salad when he was little (it's sweet, duh) so even after he turned 20, she was making it for him. My cousin Keven meant a bowl of not-on-the-cob corn, because he'd had braces when he first came to stay with us, but liked corn. That sort of thing. By the time she died, our family dinners were stylized and fixed meals that represented our past as a family. Which is a nice way to think about it when you don't have to eat it, lol.
