Pre Dooms Day
The sun was shining with gentle breeze blowing. Earth as we know it was going about it's daily lives. Children were in school. Sunbathers and surfers were at the beach. Gentlemen hurried to the office. Ladies modeled on the runway. Then a scientist saw what would become the end of an era hurtling through space towards the fragile planet.
It was a obsidian black rock crackling with purple lightening. Unusual was an understatement. In hours, the nations were struggling to come up with a solution for the evident collision. In days, the leading scientists were scheming. In weeks, the world learned of and reacted to the coming event. Terror was understandable. Awe and suspense existed as well.
Dooms Day
The long awaited, and feared, day arrived. The asteroid impacted in the Pacific Ocean created earthquakes and tidal waves the vibrated throughout the Earth's crust. Volcanoes reacted by erupted. All of them. The sky filled with ash and a mini ice age occurred. The dust in the sky killed off a lot of the plant life. Animals starved. Humanity's idea of civilization and sophisticated crumbled. This wasn't the worst of what was to come.
The crackling purple lightning soon filled every ash, dust, or snow storm. It spread until only rare days of blue skies provided relief from the strange phenomena. Those who survived the natural disasters now had a new problem before them.
Post Dooms Day
Ten years later, the Pacific Ocean and all countries connected to it were filled with twisted, and often dangerous, versions of what had been. Plants developed poisonous thorns. Animals such as the average house cat grew fangs, claws, and a veracious nature. Some animals of the same species were affected in different ways creating several new varieties.
The most notable of all was the affect on humans. Many developed small skills. Perhaps seeing a little better in the dark or a love of raw meat. Then a few developed medium skills like amazing accuracy with guns or strength of iron. However, there were those who became leaders: caring or greedy. They were extraordinary. They were mages.
Mages were the few individuals who could make use of the new energy that filled this planet. Some could only work one element that they devoted to learning. Some could use abilities like teleporting or flying. Some could do many things. No mage was like another. So strategy also was incorporated into the art of mage craft. Those who aspired to be leaders had a role unlike any other. Those who were wanderers either caused mischief and assisted how they could. A few took it upon themselves to attempt to rid the world of the dangerous beasts that now plagued humanity. Everyone found a purpose or goal... or died in chaos.
