Heeey~ We play all of the same instruments.

I'm typically a flutist as well, but I picked up sax for the sake of playing jazz (though, I would have loved to do a jazz flute solo).
Onto the matter at hand, changing octaves is much easier on the saxophone than the flute. Air temperature and speed stay exactly the same. All you need to do is press the little octave key. It's located right above the little peg you rest your left thumb on. Just slide your thumb up and viola! You're an octave higher.
