"Yeah I guess. . . but still, if I see any oblivious mages around I promise I'm going to roast em' alive! Stupid gargoyles and mages always making them and letting them do whatever they want. . ." he replied in an almost childish mumble as he trailed off towards the end. Thane had ran into mages, vampires, werewolves and elves before. None of them were rude to him per say -probably because he showed them the respect they wanted to be shown- though all of them tried to stay away from the Gifted and the agency in general. Probably because the agency was viewed as being brutal and unnecessary, but while this was true, it was also true that it was the one good thing about them. They were protectors of humans because the other races didn't give a damn about them in the long run. A superiority complex.
Placing a hand on his chin in thought, he soon shrugged when he decided he couldn't remember. "I dunno," he said as they walked out of the door to meet an unhappy looking William Payne. Then Eden suddenly remembered the name, "Ah yeah, Lombardi's. That was some good pizza. Good evening William." Will looked at the two with a stern face and checked his SDP, "Good evening you two. You were almost late again. You two love to try my patience don't you?" Thane threw his hands up, "No we don't actually. We were a minute early, so technically we weren't late," he pleaded. "I said almost."
Letting his hands fall to his sides again Thane looked at Eden then back at Will, "You know she had a simulation test so I had to wait for her to finish." Will's eyes narrowed as he snapped back, "And that concerns you in what way? She is not a child, she can take care of herself. You know you should have reported to me and we would have waited for her arrival." Clenching his fist together, Thane was obviously irritated. He hated when the old man acted like this, but knowing that this fight wasn't going to get them anywhere he gave up. "Of course Sir William. I'm sorry, it won't happen again." Empty words of course and the older man knew it from the unconvinced look on his face. Eden was his first priority and that certainly wasn't going to change now.
Looking down at the data pad the balding grey haired man tapped the chip implant on the right side of his face that brought up a pair of virtual reading glasses, "Your assignment tonight is to head to Brooklyn and track down the groups of errant gargoyles and destroy them. There is supposedly four separate groups operating on their own independent of one another. I don't know if this is true or not but you two will investigate this upon your arrival. I don't know how many are in each group all we know is that they've been launching attacks on people in packs, and from the sounds of it, they've been well coordinated attacks."
This was a bit troubling. Usually they had to track down just a few rogue gargoyles but now they were attacking people in packs? There was no way they were operating alone. He looked at Eden with a puzzled look on his face. They would talk about it on the ride over but this was troubling news.
William continued when it looked like their attention was back on him, "There is a penthouse for you two to stay at in Brooklyn for the duration of the mission. The address is already programmed into your ride. Call me when you finish the mission, otherwise don't bother me." Thane looked at the old man unfazed by his attitude. He was always like this, though neither of them knew why. Or at least he didn't.
"Well let's go," he told his partner as he walked ahead and got on the left side of the silver auto-car. There was no steering wheel in these, they drove themselves, all you had to do was enter a destination and then wait. Luckily theirs was a luxury model so it was a comfortable ride to be sure.
