Well, some people see an oppourtunity to help in a "poorer" country. But I think that if a kid is up for adoption in your own country, why wouldn't you want to adopt a kid there? I wouldn't mind adopting an older kid. I think my husband would only be happy with a baby though. IDK why. I don't get men sometimes.
