They call them gypsies, they are from Eastern Europe in Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Madedonia, (I think) and Romania... very poor families who keep having more kids than they can feed and the orphanages are overflowing with these immigrant children in Italy from what I heard from locals... especially in southern Italy it gets worse.

Pretty much a lot of them do turn to petty theft in order to make a living.
