If you want to make wirewraps and already have the stuff, then just do it. If you do it wrong, then you can just try again as long as the stones don't brake. I know there's a lot of good tutorials about wirewrapping on DeviantArt. I've used some of them myself.
I wish we had more mineral and stone shows here. I've only been on one this far and that was some years ago. Though we have two shops (that I know of) who sells a lot of stones and mineral and such. I even practiced at one of them for some weeks.
I'm in gothenburg in Sweden, so I have a feeling that that can be a bit problematic.
