“One should know that you never ask a lady her age,” she teased giving the other woman a wink. “I’ll give you a hint though since you seem to know some about my kind. When not using my illusion magic I have a total of four tails.” Kat was glad to see that Sabin was full of questions. She answered them the best she could before leaving. “At first it was kind of rough since the way we thought was different. We have had our share of problems, but we always seemed to come to an understanding. Yes, most humans don’t believe magic is real anymore. So they think everything is just elaborate tricks and illusions.” Kat shook her head. “Don’t worry about it; I didn’t know you were allergic to silver. Also don’t worry about paying me back.”
Nathanial gave her a nod. “Yes it is, miss.” He scoffed at her question. Hadn’t Kat explained everything like she was told? That woman leaving things up to him again was annoying. “I am Master Darius’ butler Nathanial Cartier and like the master of this house I am a vampire. May I ask what you are? I don’t believe I have seen one of your kind before?” His tone was a little on the rough side, but he remained formal with her. “As for why I say Kat is off having fun it’s because I have known that woman a long time. Like most of her kind she is a trickster. Plus tonight is her night off from the circus.” Nathanial studied the woman, getting a feel for her.
He placed the food onto the table and turned back to Sabin. “The Master will be awake soon. Do you have any concerns you wish for me to address with him?” As always the male seemed to be unreadable, but something about his demeanor gave away to his uneasiness. Their guest was beautiful and he could see why Darius was attracted to her. Of course he also knew she was off limits until it was clear how his master felt about her. For now he planned to play his role and keep a distance. His duty was to be an observer and act as a guard.
