I had a friend who used it to raise funds to return home to Japan, for the first time in 19 years!
It got him there, but I think a lot of the donations were from acquaintances, as he constantly promoted it on FB as well.
I tried it for a few months, didn't get anything.
I guess it depends on how well you promote yourself...
