January 6, 2016 - NICKELBACK

I wanted to share these songs called "Photograph" and "Saving Me" by today's artist of the day, Nickelback. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB0DU4DoPP4

This is a song I grew up listening to just passively on the radio in the car. Once it was no longer being played on the radio station, many many years back, I completely forgot about this song.

A few months ago, my friend introduced me to this song by Nickelback. I immediately fell in love with it. I enjoyed hearing the sort of coarse but powerful voice of the singer. I was also moved by the music video. In the story, a man's life is saved by a stranger. Immediately afterward, he starts to see countdowns above the heads of everyone around him. However, he does not see a countdown above his own head. He quickly realizes that the countdown is counting down the time until each person dies. He eventually saves a woman's life and disappears into the crowd. The woman can then see the countdowns. We can assume that the cycle will repeat again with the woman saving someone else's life. The video coupled with the song felt very powerful to me in a bittersweet way. I was glad that it was not just one person burdened (or blessed? I would say burdened...) with seeing these countdowns forever. I thought it was beautiful that the person could not see their own countdown, so that they would focus on other people's countdowns and save someone else's life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPc-o-4Nsbk

I have no idea how I would react if I experienced this sort of thing...

Anyway, I saw "Photograph" in one of the video suggestions on Youtube after listening to "Saving Me!" And I recognized it as one of the songs I loved in my childhood! So I am very happy to share those two songs today in my music journal.
