It's possible, but I don't think it's likely. Most bands who are genuinely exploring discover at least something semi-original that they like, even if it's just a throwback to something everybody used to do but now doesn't (like the classical piano in some of the Panic! at the Disco songs). Even if the musicians did like the crappy unoriginal stuff they were putting out, though, there is no artistic value in if an album where every track sounds like every other track. The reason I respect musicians is because they are artists; when they stop being artists and start being copycats, they lose my interest and my respect.
