Well, we could definitely take a slight Final Destination vibe on just not to the extent that they're having life or death situations constantly thrown at them.
Or we could just say that the humans need to be kept away from Reapers that want to talk them out of living.
Maybe the Reapers could have the power to throw these life or death things at the humans but make it so that it's possible for the humans to escape them alive- since Reapers aren't supposed to actually kill anyone. Then Angels or other Reapers could see it coming and help their humans live.
