Adair jumped agilely from the roof of a low lying building to the ground below. His boots made a thump on the pavement, but there was no one in the alley to hear it. He glanced left and right, but the alley truly was empty. "Damn, I lost him," Adair muttered before jabbing his weapon back into its holder on his leather belt. He dragged a hand through his dirty mess of red hair and let out a sigh as he dropped back against the wall behind him.

Lately, all he did was lose his prey. Maybe he'd gotten too cocky. This city was another world though. He'd been hunting here for the last year and sometimes the bounty he was chasing turned out to be something unexpected. There were rumors about this place and the forest that sat outside of the city, the sort of rumors that involved demonic beings that lived inside every shadow, behind every false grin, and Adair was just well enough acquainted with that sort of beast to believe they were out there. He'd slashed his blades through many of those kind in the past. His hand jumped to his bandaged right arm out of reflex. Even if the wound never hurt anymore, he never forgot it was there.

The afternoon sun was brutal and Adair ducked his head, shoving past people on the street in order to avoid it. His skin may have been dark and used to the sun, but his eyes were sensitive to the light. He preferred half light, but the job often required him to be awake during the day when he had easy access to his marks. Besides, he had five different slips of paper with mark information stuffed into his back pants pocket. If he lost one mark, he would just move onto another. He needed the money so he could buy a damn decent steak for once.

Adair was absorbed in looking through his mark information when he suddenly stopped walking. His brow furrowed and he looked off toward the forest. He could feel an unusually strong demonic energy making its way toward the city. Instantly, he dropped back into hunter mode and put away his papers, keeping his hands near his weapons as he moved to the edges of the street where he could watch without being seen as readily. He walked quickly toward the source of the energy he was feeling.

Soon, he caught sight of a large man just entering the city. He had a familiar look and Adair guessed there was probably a bounty out of him, but he couldn't recollect anything specific as it was probably an old bounty he had seen. Without much sense of what would be a smart decision, he stepped out in front of the man and announced his presence. "Hey you big guy, who are you?"
