"I do wish I could promise you more, but I do not want to make promises I cannot keep," he tried to soothe Wufei, aware of some lingering distress below the surface. "However, I can promise that you will not become a burden. In times of war, more so than in times of peace, temples like this are meant to serve and protect. I am offering you our protection, and no one here would dare take that from you."

He pauses for several seconds, just considering Wufei, "Then rest for now, stay here in the garden if you wish or if you want to explore please feel free to do that as well. I will bring you food and bedding here later. Perhaps some new clothes as well. If you really wish to sleep outdoors, I do not wish for you to catch cold." He smiled gently as he said this, his tone soft, as he wished to take care of Wufei.
