Alexis went quiet, looking away from Jacob. It was too complicated for him to even begin to explain to his new friend. How could he put his dependency on Dan into words? He needed the man. He fed him, clothed him, bathed him, kept him company when he was sad or lonely, played music for him to cheer him up... He couldn't hurt Dan. Even if Dan hurt so many others, and had hurt him. He couldn't remember anything about his surgery, or what he was like before he was turned into what he was now. Why would he want to hurt Dan? Maybe before he had changed, he was in a worse situation than he was in now.

He remained quiet, just being close to Jacob should have been comfort enough. The man seemed tired, but Alexis doubted Jacob would be able to sleep. Tomorrow he would be taken down to the lab and tortured again. He was already weak from today and not eating for that long as well. There was no hope for him fighting Dan and winning. He just had to hope that Jacob's friend would come to pick him up.

Tim bit his lip and checked his cell phone for the hundredth time that hour. It had only been a day since he had taken his friend to the house out in the middle of nowhere, and Jake had said he'd be a week at the most, but something was worrying him. It hadn't seemed right from the very start, but even though he warned Jake, the man had been stubborn. He fingered the phone, thinking of sending a text to Jake, asking him how his day had been. No, there was no way there'd be reception out in the middle of nowhere, he'd just be wasting time.

It was a shame that this doctor hadn't given Tim a phone number. He would have liked to keep in contact with his friend, to make sure everything was fine. No, he was worrying far too much. This was real life, not some horror movie. He doubted serial killers would find their victims through goods and services sites. It would be too easy to track them down. Maybe this was a stupid serial killer? Couldn't be much of a serial killer then... He laughed dryly and pocketed his phone, picking up the book he had been trying to read and becoming absorbed in the words. His thoughts never stopped straying to the plight of his friend, however.
