That odd eccentric character you meet in that one town who gives you some unclear clue that will turn out to be the solution to the entire game, yet you don't realize it until the end of the game.

That or one of the minor cronies of the final boss that you fight a million of before fighting the final boss which is just a nastier version of the cronie.
