This time, Layland let the other man walk away. "Good bye," he muttered to Cian's back. He had no intention of moving now. He had to much to thinking about. Dropping his chin onto his fist, he clenched his hand tightly enough for his manicured nails to bite into the flesh of his palm. Despite not saying anything about it, he was taken aback by Cian's words.

He hadn't grown up without kindness. It wasn't like that at all. He was better cared for than most kids, always the center of attention...until his older brother started college and wowed the world. But Layland had never been wanting for things and he got his father's praise for every prestige that had been awarded to him so far. He didn't even thinking about Cian levitating coins because he was so wrapped up in his other thoughts.

Finally Layland pushed off from the bench and headed for the parking lot. He had no reason to stay on campus. As a grad student, he was only taking three classes this semester and one of them was unsupervised lab time. Tomorrow he could put in the time needed to create a cure, but for today, he could just go home to his cushy apartment, spread out his notes, and order in some Thai.
