You can either use the CMD + SHIFT + 3/4 which will either snap a picture of the desktop, or turn your cursor into a crosshair that you can use to make a selection, and save it as an image file on your desktop.

Add caps lock and you can select a window to copy, or add CTRL and it'll be copied to your clipboard instead of as a file on your desktop.


There's also an app that comes with all Mac OS X's and it's called GRAB, that does all that but instead of keystrokes you chose your options in the top bar drop down menu =3

There's many tricks!
