yeah you can do the event with your mule. (: I always found it easier to stay on my main though, since playing on my mule would also cause me to have random candies on both accounts and not enough apples on either account for what I wanted but combined I would have enough etc. >.> I don't know if that makes sense, but overall: yes you can use your mule for the event.
and I don't know what other clues to give. xD maybe the people in the FAQ can help more. It seemed obvious to me but I've been around to watch the people be created etc...so I just kinda knew. The FAQ should have helpful hints for you though. :3
