Diamond

Voices. Why were there voices? Bits and pieces were filtering in, glimpses of information along the many faces of her gem form. Diamond, such a beautiful gem, one that since anchient times, had been used to symbolize power and beauty. But this one was special, this one was not like others of its' kind. This Diamond was a guardian, one of twelve beings created centuries ago when the world first began, by the original. He did not have a name, but each of the twelve had been given a name based on their personalities, on a gem that could be found, created by the natural world itself. Each had a power of their own, one of the original's, that had also helped to give them their name.

Diamond had been known most for her beauty, but also for her strength. For the power of reflection, it fit her quite nicely. They had all slipped into a slumber long ago, left to their dreams and their own. She had been expecting to remain in their safe resting ground, but now.... Where was she? As her conciousness came back to fully her own, she found herself laying upon the floor of a room. A bed off to her side, a dresser to her back. What was this place? This strange world. She slowly pressed a hand to the floor, pushing herself up to sit. At the moment, she only wore a simple white dress. Knee high, that complimented her silver hair and eyes, as it fell around her. She sat there, looking at the odd new items around her. She could slightly place the general idea of what some things were, but others were forgien.

Where was she? Or more importantly...when was she? A voice came from out the door. "I'll be right there honey, let me get my wedding ring" a female voice, one she did not recognize. She stood, her bare feet pressing into the plush carpet. It would not be a good idea to be caught in a home she did not belong in. Glancing around, her eyes caught a mirror over the dresser. Her reflection stared back at her. Some of the others might complain. For just waking up, she looked good. She pushed such trivial thoughts from her mind, moving to the mirror. She did not hesitate, reaching out to press her fingertips against the glass. A ripple went over the surface, like that of water, before she moved through it into a world where only she could reach.

It looked like a world of white, the best way to describe it, was like standing in a world surrounded by ever shifting clouds. She looked back to the way she had come, as a woman entered the room she had been in. She moved to the dresser, seeming to look it over, then frowned. "I could have sworn that I left it here" she said. Diamond did not know what she was talking about, but she did not intend to stick around to find out. Instead, she walked through the cloud like world, various reflective surfaces passing by, giving her a glimpse into the outside world. Large buildings, things that moved around, seeming to be made of metal. So many new sights and sounds, so many people as well.

Bustling around from here to there. Finally, she found what looked like a street. She pressed a hand to the surface, and soon found herself moving out onto the sidewalk. For people around, eyes began staring at her. Shock seen, though she barley noticed, with people having just seen a woman come out of a store front window. The sidewalk felt cold and hard under her feet, her eyes moving over the scene before her. A newspaper stand stood not far down the street, so she made her way over to it, despite the stares coming from people as she passed. Reaching out, she lifted one of the papers from the stack, her eyes ignoring the so called news, scanning for the date. Up in the corner, there it was. The year staring back at her 2015. It had been that long? She stared at the numbers for a moment, before the owner of the newstand snatched the paper away from her.

"Aye...it ain't free news honey. You want it, gotta buy it" he puffed out a bit of smoke from a cigarette in his mouth. She waved a hand, to disperse the smoke, as the man stared her down. She nodded lightly, giving him a light bow. "Forgive me.." her first words since waking, and they were an apology. The man blinked, just hearing her voice like the others of the twelve was different than a normal human's. He seemed to have second thoughts about his anger, nodding. "It's fine miss.....here" he handed her the paper she had been looking at again, "on the house." She smiled, making him all but blush, "thank you, your kindness will not be forgotten." She accepted the paper, giving the man a wave, before continuing on her way. So, this was the year of 2015.

A long time had passed, since they went to sleep. She did not immediately feel any of the others near, were they even here in this city? If not, she would have to do some work. Her first goal either way, should be to find the others, to find her friends. She did not know how long it would take, or even where to start. Looking down at the simple dress, she figured she would only stand out at the moment. She now noticed how much people were looking at her. She sighed slightly, seemed her first task would have to be to blend in. Then find the others, and determined what kind of world this had become.
